    Underground Garage or Private Garage

    Ok, here's the deal. I'm trying to look for a new place. I'm not rich I'm on a budget, and I just bought a 996 turbo. I found an ideal place in an area I want, but it doesn't have private garages, just an underground garage where everybody parks in assigned spots. It seems each spot has plenty of room for doors opening without hitting other cars. Any thoughts or objections from Porsche Turbo owners parking their cars in underground parking garages?

    My other option is to find townhomes further away from my ideal living area but still be in a good area and pay about 20 to 30 grand more for a townhome with private garage. Is this totally worth it to have a private garage for my porsche?

    It depends on how quiet is your surrounding.
    I have an underground shared and i'm always craving for a private one. The only thing that at the moment is halting me to search for one is the same reason as yours: i'm not rich and i'm on a budget with my current apartment.

    I suggest a private one if you can choose without it costing you too much

    It does depend on where you live. I have a friend who lives in a huge apt complex in Newport Beach, CA, and there are several high end cars there in the parking garages. Porsches, Ferarris, Lambo, Viper, Zo6s, etc. When I got my car, while waiting for my house to finish escrow, I lived in an apt, but kept my car in a storage unit for a while.

    If your neighborhood is good with other nice cars in the garages, and you have insurance, you should be fine.

    I was also wondering about the elements in an underground garage. Sure it's covered from the sun or rain, but will the air and dust be a problem to the paint and/or the morning wetness be a problem? Btw, I live in Houston, TX. I don't know if humidity is an issue in an underground garage.

    No, it wouldn't be worth it just to have a private garage...it would be worth it because of the real estate investment.

    A car can be fixed, dont inconvenience your daily routine to go over the top to pamper it.

    My apartments in NYC/HK both have private parking garages in the basement for residents only and they are full of exotics, perfectly safe.

    Size is everything - the need for garage space (and closet space) increases over time. Having enough room to get all your toys out of the ice storm outside - priceless.
