    Guys,

that needs a bit of clarification. The DSG box mentioned above weighst about 50 kg more than the manual version and about 20 kg more than the common automatic transmission for those applications.

The DSG Golf GTI weighs 25 kg (V6 28kg) over the manual. Not comparable?

    Re: For PDK fans...

The F1/SMG is not so reliable and expensive to maintain in the past, not sure now.

So the DSG is what the PDK gonna be, does it reliable and what about the maintain cost?

    Re: For PDK fans...

I would not be surprised to see the Tiptronic continue as option with the DSG/PDK offered as a third transmission option for a significant premium a la PCCB.

The currently used DSG box of Volkswagen is designed to handle up to 320 Nm torque, an upcoming, smaller and lighter gearbox for up to 200 Nm torque is about to go on sale in Europe.

The Turbo's gearbox is, due to higher torque loads, much heavier (120 kg opposed to about 75 kg for the manual). A general description of the DSG box here. One advantage, compared to the already offered noseheavy DSG models (Audi TT, Golf GTI etc.) is the fact that the gearbox (and therefore the extra weight) on the Turbo is placed at the ideal position. Therefore I wouldn't worry about another couple kgs!

    Re: For PDK fans...

Current DSG for FWD can handle up to 400Nm.

Here is my advice for all PDK waiter on facelifted 997 Turbo(or regular fecelifted 997 models)-try to arrange test drive of new Audi TT(2.0TFSI) with S-Tronic(DSG) and see how you will like it...

The fact is that 98% of all DSG equiped car onwers are driving their cars almost all the time in auto mode or sport mode(auto mode as well but, sporty one). Drive the car in all three modes-auto, sport and manual(using the paddles) and then if impression is good you can start to wait for PDK. But, if you are not fully convinced that S-Tronic(DSG) is better or more involving then manual... Then simply stick with the STICK!

Thanks, I gonna arrange that test drive.

Just wondering why all the F1/DSG/SMG gearbox have auto mode?

What the owner really wants an automatic, but he would not be caught dead in one.

    Precisely

    Re: For PDK fans...

And that's the primary selling point of a DSG, control of a manual if needed and comfort of the automatic. Plus it shifts faster than anyone can with stick and no power-sapping torque converter to contend with.

again!.... pdk in an RS would b wonderful.

i gonna be pdk fan soon, can't wait for the dsg test drive, hopefully works for me.

the 599 i tested with f1 is so great, actually dsg vs f1, which is faster?

    thx

    Re: For PDK fans...

Shifting speed? DSG hands down if the computer guess right.

Remember, the computer predicts and pre-select the next gear, only waiting for engagement, the F1 still needs to select and engage.

    Re: For PDK fans...

    thanks for the reply..

i heard quite a lot of problems with the f1/smg gearbox.

more gears in the dsg thats mean heavier etc.... does it reliable at all?

    Re: For PDK fans...

No one knows, especially in a high torque application like the Turbo. All current DSG are in light output cars in the VW camp, the only other one is the one in the Veyron which is specially made for that car.

    Re: For PDK fans...

    What about the R8?

R8 uses a variation of the E-gear, not DSG.

    Re: For PDK fans...

i am waiting for 997TT with PDK shift for a long time ....who can tell me when can i see it arrive showroom .

So the up coming TT/GT3 RS gonna be the 1st PDK/DSG with 435hp-500hp engine. Hopefully that is reliable and unlike the PCCB.

Nope. I just found out that the Nissan GT-R will be the first dual clutched equipped car in that HP range. The next PDK equipped Porsche will be at best second one.

Add another point to the GT-R, it just looks more and more inviting to get one, I just wonder how much it's gonna cost me to get to the front of the wait list on the local dealer.

That's what I was thinking too, maybe get a GT-R instead of the Turbo. My friends in Japan have recenty driven this car and they said it is so great, I bet the car not only has 480hp.

And just buy the RS from Porsche.

    Let's see.

    Re: For PDK fans...

go go go go get GT-R just do it .........unless u wanna get GT3 or GT2 ......
