Based on these, I do too! The Top Gear article pictures were much more flattering to the Touring.

A short video of the GT3 Touring and Carrera T from Top Gear magazine...

"Both are Porsche 911s, both have manual gearboxes, both do without back seats and wings... but each has something very different lurking over the rear axle.

The 911 GT3 Touring is essentially a GT3 without the rear spoiler and a compulsory six-speed manual gearbox. That means it has the same 493bhp 4.0-litre flat-six with a 9,000rpm redline – winner of the Top Gear engine of the year award, no less.

£30,000 cheaper and with a 128bhp defecit, the Carrera T is less well endowed, but with its seven-speed manual, lower suspension, thinner glass, and option to remove the rear seats and sat-nav, it’s just as driver focused.

Is this fashion for retro-flavoured sports cars just marketing guff, or is there a tangible benefit to the driver? And which car makes us smile more on a series of epic roads in the South of France? Want to know the answers? Step this way..."

GT3 Touring looks almost perfect, just missing a wing to be worthy of a GT3 name.

Porsche, can we have a wing option for the GT3 Touring?

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 GT3 (2017)

Finished my break-in period and went to the track on Saturday.  Car was very fun!  And when I returned home, I removed the engine under-tray expecting to find a new puddle of oil.  But, it was totally dry...

I still think the goop that was on it before may have been some kind of lube other than engine oil.

I really like the handling balance of the GT3 more than the GT4 (maybe because I'm just a 911 guy at heart).  I found it much more entertaining with less understeer.

The track was just resurfaced and very slippery, almost like an ice skating rink (and being a cool 50F day didn't help).  But, I was still able to set my fastest ever lap there.  Once the track wears in (and has some rubber), I think I'll finally be under 2 minutes (my personal goal).

I also felt the same way, even when I had plenty of seat time in my GT4 Clubsport on track, it never feel 'right' to me. But when I jumped into a Cup car, I can trust the car totally, I know exactly how the car will react, not so in the mid engine Clubsport.

Thanks, Nick.  I did use the auto-rev.  Wanted to get comfortable with car before worrying about heel-toe at track (mostly because I think I'll need an adjustable throttle pedal to do it well).

I never had any drips on the floor of my garage, but when I removed the diffuser tray, I saw a little schmutz (like on photo posted above in this thread and re-posted below) which may have been oil and dirt mixed or maybe just grease from something other than the engine.

    IMG_3813.JPG

Seems to not be producing this stuff anymore and may be just residue from the assembly process.

    Good luck! Smiley

Honestly, the RWS never entered my mind.  It’s very transparent.  Gearing is good - would be even better if it didn’t need to go 200mph, but no complaints.

I did change the rear swaybar to full stiff when I got home to try to quell a touch of understeer.  I find that 911’s usually respond to bar changes pretty noticeably.  My GT4 had both bars set for oversteer with a track alignment and still understeered more than the GT3 in stock form.

My pleasure - the video doesn’t really capture the sense of speed or excitement very well (looks dull), but it’s fun from inside the car (and sounds great from the outside- got to hear a friend’s identical car)

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 GT3 (2017)

Found the source of the oil leak. Visually it was difficult to find. They had to spray with a white substance and run the engine. What they found was the oil tank seam was leaking. Apparently, when they pinched the seam together it was not done properly. Oil sipped alone the seam. Hopefully this is a one off incident or Porsche will be replacing all the oil tanks. The oil tank needs to be replaced and probably will involve dropping the engine.surprise

The car is drivable. Now waiting to hear how long it will take to replace the part.yes

Nick - that makes sense as to why it dripped on the floor rather than the underside of the engine tray (tank is off to the right side beyond the tray).  Since the tank is inside the right rear wheel, any drips will not end up under the tire as you drive.  And unless it starts to leak badly, it shouldn't cause a problem for anyone following you (though I wouldn't do a track even until the repair is complete).  I can't imagine that it will take long to acquire a replacement tank, as the cars are currently being built furiously and many tanks are required...

Having been under the car several times now, it doesn't seem necessary to me that the engine would need to be dropped to replace the tank.  However, they may just prefer the additional room that would be afforded with the engine out of the way.

On a 911, an engine drop is so simple that I wouldn't let this cause you any angst.  No big deal.

Glad the leak was external to the motor.  At least they don't have to open the motor - that would give me some pause...

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 GT3 (2017)

Grant, you're right about the reason for the engine drop. They wanted more room but first would try without dropping the engine.

Regarding the improper seam, I assume that the oil tank is mass produced using machinery. Hopefully the pressure tolerance and bonding for the seam was only incorrect on mine.

I should have taken a picture while under the lift. My Bad.laugh
