thierry:
RC,
Had the same issue a month ago in a village, crossing at 50kph. Exhaust in sport mode. A stupid mother doing the same. I stopped as well and gently :-) explained.
Your are right with acceptation. France is even worse. This is a shame to own something. You need to own nothing to be a good sheep. This is pretty popular as well, people are really excited when they see that taxes are so high for people buying psorts car. they feel better. what a stupidity.
By the way, what is th emost stupid of all because those diots are working in silo :
-> increase registration as such as an impact on people byuing new car. This is a fact. i will not buy a new one every year if I have to give 13k each time for registration
-> Obviously no one is thinking that not buying the car is a loss of 30k in VAT..... but again too difficult for those people to connect the dots. Making such an increase is pleasing most of jealous people. This is enough for their pool of electors.
Who cares about optimizing incomes ? They don't care. they will increase something else to counterbalance.
I have finsihed my complaining now. Only solution : leave and move 1km from where I live to the other side : Luxemburg :-).
Move to Miami...so many French people there and they love the weather.
Joking aside, I understand you well. The whole car "culture" in Germany has changed. In my youth, young people were interested in cars but nowadays, most 18-25 years olds are more interested in smartphones and social media. The only young people interested in fast cars are mostly those with a migration background and unfortunately, many of them don't have a good reputation here, especially in larger cities like Cologne or Berlin.
Police over here pays more attention to sportscar drivers than ever but luckily, I am not very young, so the police isn't too keen to annoy me often. When they stop me (mostly in the R8), it is because they think I did something to the exhaust. Especially police in Munich is specialized on modded cars. Once they look at my car closer though, they realize there is nothing to punish me for, so they move on. Usually they are nice but it is very annoying that almost every time I am in Munich, I get stopped. Yes, I drive with the sport exhaust activated but they should know by now that the R8 is loud. Apparently however there are idiots who think it isn't loud enough. My sales guy told me that one of his customers had a modded exhaust and paid 1600 EUR for fines, TÜV fees, etc. to get it fixed. They confiscated the car because the modification was obvious, the police officers are now trained to "spot" such cars, there was a welding line on the exhaust and they noticed it of course.
Very stupid situation right now over here, so I do not recommend any (illegal) exhaust mods in Germany because police has caught up and they know what they are looking for.
Speaking of laws, taxes and whatnot, I think Europe has changed and will change further along the upcoming years. People with money already started leaving Europe and this will continue in the years to come.
