the-missile:the shiny plastic vents are definitely hideous
Agreed. Not a fan of the interior designs in Mercedes cars lately. The display unit in the E class is hideous, I just hope they don't do the same in the C class facelift (we postponed the delivery of our C63 S AMG Convertible to autumn 2018, so we get the facelift).
looking for the external design release.
did they change the dimensions of the car?
Good question. Saw only a camouflaged version of the car at my dealer (it is one of the Mercedes owned dealerships many mules come to) and it actually looked the same but of course the car was camouflaged with that stupid white/black stuff.

The problem with the new one is that the original one has been around for so long. Similar to the case of the Defender, but the new defender is not out yet. The simplicity of the original is the beauty of it, even though the current G is not as simple as the Defender, the newer one is packed with Tech that will be outdated in five years. On the other hand, the current G is already outdated and can be called a classic, so I better get one soon.
And with the newer one, there will always be a newer newer one around the corner, hence, it will not be keeping its value as the current one.

Imho 90% of current owners couldn't care less about simplicity. They like its squared shape, high driving position and show off. So these new owners will welcome the improvements in the interior of the car, more comfy and better materials is a win-win for them.
Mercedes has a huge challenge here similar to Land Rover with the Range. The british-indians knew how to deal with this transition to a more modern design language. Let's see what the germans do.
Lars997:I love the interior language of Mercedes right now. The materials are where they should be. The seats are having lots of patches and stitches. And the cockpit is amazing, too.
+1
I fear the interior design won't age well though. Technology moves really fast and these big screens are going to look like very old tech in just a few years.
The fact that those screens are so huge and takes so much space in the cabin is only going to make things worst. IMHO, the all cabin will feel very out of date in just 4 to 5 years.

Great comparison and you @amazon - you might be spot on. Even my SLS feels super dated from the digital displays. Thats the good thing on the vintage cars, they are good without all those stuff and they stay fresh like on the first day

When I look at the 964 gauges, I don't feel like it's is outdated, they work perfectly fine telling what I need to know. Even that little bit of digital display under the tach is fine for what it does.
The Aston gauges also works fine too. Because of the platform's age, it is basically like a 15 year old design. The little bit of digital display inside works well enough, they don't overpower the rest of the design.
The most high tech one will be the all digital gauge in the Huracan. At time I like it, at times I hated it. It is stupid to put the rearview camera within the binnacle, Ferrari made the same mistake on the 458/488/F12/812 etc. When the steering wheel is turned, it blocks the view and the camera become useless. It hasn't looked dated to be yet however. Still feel fresh, maybe because of the simple design.
Yes i think ferrari perfected the blend of technology and simplicity with high quality materials in their interior design. Its all about the driving experience. No need to use big screens to attract buyers. My current dd has a 12 inch screen and i still use my phone for navigation.
Conny997:intouch1:from an original g owners perspective, I am not sure I want it to be such high tech and modern.
Me not...
Live goes on and somehow you have to add new functions even to the old brick of G.
I think whoever wants to stay old school should make sure to get one of the "old ones". I wanted one a year ago and said no because of the new coming. I really hope that the new one drives like a SUV and not like a off-roader. But hey - different clients, different perspectives
