Alex, do you think it is a good idea to have the designation painted in body color? I mean black on black. Can you really see that when painted?

I don't like the mirror like turbo designation at all.

Here's a photo of my black/black with body colored script

    Thank you so much!

You are the man. I just love it!

Would you mind to let me know isn't that factory paint job?

And the color is pure black on pure black right?

Re: Touch your paint: scratch it.

Yes, factory paint. Plain (non-metallic black) paint

Great! You have good taste like me.

If you have time please post some interior pics of your car. I am thinking to get rid of the silver trims, but maybe that's too dark for the interior.

Re: Touch your paint: scratch it.

MMD, how does Slate compare to Seal Grey for maintenance? Your last car was Seal, I believe.

Re: Touch your paint: scratch it.

From talking to friends and those who have owned both, it appears that seal grey is a much easier color to maintain/own. It's also a much more visually pleasing color (Seal Grey) and a favorite of mine. I wanted seal grey initially but would've been happy with meteor grey but didn't want to wait until it was available (last October).

Re: Touch your paint: scratch it.

    Meteor Grey

Hey Buddy, good question. My last car was Arctic Silver and now with the Slate I'm going thru a mild shock. No kidding..., everytime I look at it there's some cr*p on it that's annoying. The AS was and still is in my mind the "best" color for Porsches. Looks clean even after a week of driving after a wash

I got the darker Slate to "hide" all the extra stuff (wings, slats, vents) on the Turbo. Slate is a BEEYOOOTEEFUL color..., but shows ALOT more dirt and dust. Gonna be a big mess (at least in my eyes) next year for first spring and summer around here with lots of dust and pollen

One GREAT thing about the Turbo wheels? The inside surfaces are approx the color of brake dust! Soooooo..., since my AS 997S had hard-to-clean silver wheels, these Turbo wheels are a dream come true!

Re: Touch your paint: scratch it.

MMD et al--if you haven't tried it yet, Optimum No Rinse is a very easy way to stay on top of things with a weekly, if needed, wash. Especially nice in winter, as you can do it in your garage.

Re: Touch your paint: scratch it.

Here's some sample photos for you.

Really not the best pictures, but I was hopeful of pointing out that some sort of washing is preferable (MHO) to using a duster or QD to clean that level of dirt on the car. And to show the safety of a product like ONR. It's such a time saver and as some places are now having to restrict water useage, you can wash with only 1 gallon of water.

This is what happens when you do not take care of it:

Re: Touch your paint: scratch it.

After 17 hours of hard work:

Re: Touch your paint: scratch it.

Its best to not place the scratches in the first place.

Re: Touch your paint: scratch it.

Vtrader. You did a great job of bringing that paint back. What products did you use?

Very impressive. I've polished 996s and 997s and the paint properties are definitely different IMO. Not sure what the differences are-perhaps someone here can offer a technical explanation?

Supposedly the VOC compliant (eco-friendly) paints are the culprit.

Also, if I were a cut-throat car maker I'd ask

    why should paint be durable?

98% of buyers only care about the paint for the first few "minutes" after delivery; and most all of them will never notice the slow but steady degradation after a few years.

Re: Touch your paint: scratch it.

I'm no scientist, but I believe you're correct about that. And I swear that polishing the hood on a 997 is a bit trickier than the steel bodied portions. Same with the bumpers, which seem to be incredibly easy to "mar" no matter what product or MF towel you use--could be the flex agent is the culprit. Also, on all 997 hoods that I've seen--including mine--the pitting is more noticeable than on the 996 hoods. Steel vs. aluminum. Point is, if you're going to drive them, unless want to clear bra everything--pitting and chipping are facts of life. Do the best you can, drive, enjoy and live with some imperfections

Yeah..., I'll drink to that! Though I'm now flirting with alcoholism trying to adjust to the fact that in eight or ten years these cars will probably have to be _recycled_ because of all the electronics and obsolete software starting to fail.

    (kidding about the alc.)

Re: Touch your paint: scratch it.

Sadly, I feel like that as well, WRT the electronics etc.

Re: Touch your paint: scratch it.

    Alex

How much of your car is covered by this ventureshield film??
