    Ferrari Pilota and GT2

    Dear all,

It's been a while, life is very busy, work is great but hectic.

A lot has happened since a few months.
My 599 is still in order. But delivery sometime in 2009! So long!
Ferrari France has lent me a black one for a whole weekend to test it and I, of course, loved it.

Recently, they also invited me (lucky me!) on a two day Pilota Ferrari course. It was very nice, I must admit that the asking price for costumers is steep (7k Euros) but the service is 5 stars. Great hotel, great food and of course, the course is great. You drive 430s and 599s on Fiorano track assisted by very competent instructors and F1 telemetry, pretty cool stuff.

My overall impressions of the cars are:
    - 430 much more fun than 599 on track. (to be expected with a 200 kgs plus difference)
    - 599 ultra stable on long curves (again thanks to weight).
    - Power of 599 simply awesome!!!
    - The F1 gearbox is fantastic, I love it!!!
    - Although the brakes of the 599 are very effective, the pedal feel is much worse than 430 (I'm talking ceramic brakes here) i.e. the brake pedal feels very spongious at the top, which for track work it not that great but for the road, more comfortable.
    - purely subjective, but I've never really been a big fan of the 430 noise, I think the V12 sounds much better.
    - All 599s were black and I loved it, I changed my order from Silvertone to Black as a result, not sure about the interior yet. Any thoughts?

My conclusions are that the 599 is THE surpime modern GT car, comfortable, confident inspiring, ultra powerful, and ok for the occasional track day althouth it's not its purpose.
430 is fantastic too, it felt like a go kart, lacks a bit of grunt at low revs but engine is explosive past 4000 rpm, and the E-diff does wonders, it really is very effective.

I saw a 430 Scuderia lap the track too. Car looks very similar to F430 (obvisouly) but sounds different (better IMO) and most impressive, the gearchange are without pause!
I would really love to own one, sadly, they are all spoken for til 2010!!!

    So I have ordered a 911 GT2!
Similarly to the Scuderia, a track orientated car, yet with great road manners and most importantly for me, stability control (the reason why the GT3 RS is no go unfortunately).
Indeed, everytime I get on a track, I am reminded how PSM/ E-diff is effective as a safety measure.

The car will be GT Silver with dark grey natural leather.
I fell into Porsche's trap and ticked a silly numbers of options but considering the price of the car, it's all relative. So it's got loads of stuff in leather, carbon and goodies like Sat Nav, etc.

    Delivery March/ April!

It will complement the 599 very well, once for long GT journeys and one for track days.

    Enjoy the few pics!

    Re: Ferrari Pilota and GT2

The 599 I had for a whole weekend, took it to the country side, great drive!
Car is too big and consumes too much petrol for urban driving, not its purpose.
Incredibly easy to drive and pratical.

    Re: Ferrari Pilota and GT2

    Driving course at Fiorano.
    430s and 599s.

    Re: Ferrari Pilota and GT2

    430 Scuderia.

    Re: Ferrari Pilota and GT2

    One of the course's 599.
    Interior very CHOCOLAT!!!

    Re: Ferrari Pilota and GT2

last one but not least, my favorite supercar in front of the factory.

Fanch, all I can say is congratulations!

Regarding the GT2, all the options are far from a trap, they should probably have been available as standard equipment anyway . It seems that you have gone the same way as MKSGR, a black 599 and a GT2 .

    Re: Ferrari Pilota and GT2

Congrats on GT2 order! Excellent choice IMHO.

    You will like it...

    Re: Ferrari Pilota and GT2

Many congrats Fanch on your choices of GT2 and 599 Sounds great

We've not heard from you in a long time. Work must be keeping you very busy

Great pics - so glad you had a great time at Fiorano...

What are you going to do with your 997S? Trade in when you get the GT2 I guess...

    Re: Ferrari Pilota and GT2

    Awesome combination of cars!
I saw a 599 (red) about a week ago and was really stunned. I think the car has enormous road presence and is just so good looking.

GT2's gonna be so great to...Congrats buddy

    Re: Ferrari Pilota and GT2

    Fantastic .

    Many Congrats!!!

Can't wait for your review .

    Re: Ferrari Pilota and GT2

    congrats!!!

    Re: Ferrari Pilota and GT2

    CONGRATS amigo!!! what a stable

Thanks for the review and can't wait to hear your impressions on the GT2 beast

    Re: Ferrari Pilota and GT2

    Congrats !

    599 GTB + GT2: a perfect combo doesn't get better than that.

    Re: Ferrari Pilota and GT2

congrats on two of the best cars money can't buy

    Re: Ferrari Pilota and GT2

    Whow Fanch, a 599 and a GT2, life's surely treating you kind

Thanks for the pics and the report!

What's happening to your 997S? Surely I must keep track of that car as it's the most ideally specced 997 I've ever stumbled upon, clearly it should be mine someday

    Re: Ferrari Pilota and GT2

    great choice!!!

    Re: Ferrari Pilota and GT2

Congrats on both vehicles. I am excited to see the 599 of yours once it takes delivery. As for your impressions on the Scuderia, all the more to be excited about the F430 replacement.

    Re: Ferrari Pilota and GT2

    Congratulations man!

    Re: Ferrari Pilota and GT2

Wow...you are one lucky guy. Congrats

    Re: Ferrari Pilota and GT2

Felicitation, excellent choix de voitures. Waiting eagerly for the GT2 review.

    Re: Ferrari Pilota and GT2

WoW, Fanch amazing collection, although it must be a pain waiting so so much for a 599GTB, I mean somewhere 2009?, that's insane, personally I wouldnt wait so so much for a car, but anyway, as you already now 997 GT2 will completely make things VERY easy for you, may be it could make you think twice about the 599

congrats!!! for sure one of the top-list collections in rennteam family

btw yesterday I bought this month's CAR magazine, the 997gt2 vs Scuderia, both of them are in another world...I can't figuere which one I would pick

    Re: Ferrari Pilota and GT2

    Fanch congrats! good choice!

    Re: Ferrari Pilota and GT2

Merci pour le reportage. Une 599 et une GT2 dans le garage, c'est tout simplement magnifique ! Félicitations

    Re: Ferrari Pilota and GT2

Fanch you are the man! Great choices. The GT2 became more attractive when Porsche equipped it with PSM.

    Re: Ferrari Pilota and GT2

It is funny how I was considering getting a CGT, but without PSM and a with a small child, I can't see driving it around as agressively. GT2 looks like a great choice right now, but same as with 430, you can't get your hands on one at MSRP anymore...
