It's the dog(s)' vote, but also without dogs I would opt for one. I find it cooler as a stationwagon, and it's simply more practical. We're going to the Alps around the holidays, look forward to actually making it up the mountain for the first time, never had 4WD before. yes

Ah, 4WD - its an unfair advantage.  A guy called Rörhl proved that some years ago.... Smiley

Smiley AWD is amazing, especially when you try to reach it's limits. I learned that the hard way when I was 19, slid over all four wheels(!) into a field. The experience of my life. You can't beat physics. Smiley Car was undamaged...only my pride took a hit. Smiley Smiley

In race mode with 900Nm of torque you can have a lot of fun in the Alps if roads are dry or wet ;)

    Re: Bought a muscle car...

    850Nm no? Either way, sufficient!

Do you find that drift mode easily accessible? Knowing myself I'd prefer to drive around in 2WD mode most of the time, is it a hassle to engage?

With Renntech downpipes, I have 900-950Nm. Honestly, I tried the drift mode only once, it made the Wagon like an M2 dancing all over the place ;) In my view, the  car is too heavy  for this. I prefer race mode which already makes the car very tail happy.

When did they start to put the OPF in the E63?

My E63S wagon is from July 2019 and it had the OPF before I put RENNtech Downpipes with OPF delete (Installed by Mercedes official dealer in CH). Pure bliss for the last 10000km. I just love the sound and the performance while being super comfortable and quiet in comfort mode for professional phone calls. I really love this car and how I smoke many Ferraris and 911s but might sell next spring to get something smaller for Geneva trafic.

Does the law allows the removal of OPF? Can you get MOT?

For public roads, Sport+ is just perfect. Race mode is more for...the track, if you want to use it there. Drift mode is easily accessible but the car is indeed heavy and I'm not sure it is that easily controllable on a public road.

Just try what fits you best but I found out that Sport+ is the "best" for me, a good balance between sportiness and safety for public road usage. Oh, there is another thing: You should adjust your "I" (individual) setting to a less engaging setting (engine response) because you will save a lot of fuel by doing that. If you drive in Sport+ or Race mode all the time, fuel consumption will be... Smiley

Where are you on fuel consumption? My N/A C63 was at 21l/100km on 80.000km. So far this C63 is at 15l/100km on 7.000km. I'm afraid the E will not match that. angry

In comfort mode on the highway it runs on 4 cylinders only at ~11l/100km. My average for 20000km is 15l/100km

    Re: Bought a muscle car...

Thanks, forgot about the cilinder deactivation. That's not too bad give the performance. Still amazed at how frugal the 991.2 GT3 was, I think it averaged 13-14l/100km during its time with me, including track time. The 812 on the other hand is absurd.

It doesn't indicate consumption, I assume that's a conscious choice. Smiley

I think it's around the 30l/100km mark now, as it's been mostly city or spirited, not long distance.

Did they install a tank as clever as Porsche did with a 90L capacity? This is so helpful with these sinks

He should be lucky to get 250km a tank driving in the city with the 812. On highway in Switzerland, he can probably stretch it to about 400km.

German highways? He is stopping at every gas stations.

I think it's 80 liter, but I've been forbidden to go near reserve capacity again because it can cause errors. Smiley

    Re: Bought a muscle car...

Swiss highway driving to and from the Alps this weekend. 8.7l. So, the V8 in the S6 is not as powerful as in your MBs, but still. Mostly drove with adaptive cruise control and on 4-cylinders. Quietly gliding indecision

This weekend we had lots of fresh snow and this car is by far the most capable I have driven on snow and ice. So much traction.

    Re: Bought a muscle car...

Collection day yesterday, and immediately drove 700km in the pouring rain. What a machine, this really is what I hoped to find. It feels invincible on the autobahn at high speed, even in these conditions. Feels a much more substantial car than the C63 does (you'd expect it would obviously). The engine as well is a big surprise, it feels a lot more responsive than the C's, I assume that's the variable turbo's talking. The sound (if you stay away from Race mode etc..) is better too, a revelation without OPF. Feels properly fast too, whow.

Downsides at the moment: I sit a bit too high. My Apple CarPlay failed a couple of times (black screen all of a sudden) and there's a small rattle in the panoramic roof. Will be a matter for warranty I think.

Next week winter tires will be fitted, and then to the Alps with it. I'm sure it will be the perfect car for the purpose.

Enjoy in good health!! I had the pano roof rattle and they solved it with some special grease.
For winter tires I am loving the Conti 860S which are slightly wider than the summer PS4S

    Re: Bought a muscle car...

The car was delivered with an extra winterset, it's Michelin Pilot Alpines if I'm not mistaken.
Car is going to the dealer on Monday, will let them know about the grease, thanks!
