    Nissan GT-R Uncovered

    Re: Nissan GT-R Uncovered

The GT-R will be good yet I am not sure if I care.

    Re: Nissan GT-R Uncovered

From that angle I don't like it at all! It looks like a catfish! The front is entirely too long, wide, and flat.

    Re: Nissan GT-R Uncovered

It does have a catfish characteristic to it. Maybe the lense that was used for the shot does not compliment the car.

I agree. Performance aside the looks of it doesn't have "I have to have one of these" factor for me.

    Re: Nissan GT-R Uncovered

Will definately be a great car, BUT unfortunatley it looks like something my 18 year old girlfriend would want to drive in high school, AND the target audience (ricer crowd) will never be able to afford it. So what target groups wants to buy an $80k japenese sports car? At least the NXS was a good looking car, which probably counted for 75% of it's sucess.

    Re: Nissan GT-R Uncovered

Th headlamp looks stretched and elongated. I was hoping the intakes under the front lamps were intact as well. The whole shape of the car is weird. A lot of soft lines and a lot of random hard and sharp lines.

    Re: Nissan GT-R Uncovered

Are there any scans available Ron ?

    Re: Nissan GT-R Uncovered

    My god what a mess!
They seem to have tried to incorporate - and failed - the front end of a GT2(air dam), 599 (head lamps), Aston Martin (hood bulges), Z06 (front quarter panel), and I also see an M6 in there.
Why can't they ever design a car from scratch on their own without copying someone else's style?

Very observant . I can see all the cars you mentioned in this GT-R.

    Re: Nissan GT-R Uncovered

    From WCF:

    Quote:
Embargo breaks happen only too often, and this time around the honour befalls the upcoming Nissan GT-R. Up untill today, the only pictures we were able to show you were cleverly disguised prototypes in teaser shots and video games. MotorTrend (whether intentionally or not) have broken one of the biggest stories for the upcoming Tokyo Motor Show, Motor Authority was quick to react and posted the MotorTrend December front cover on their blog (see source link).

The front cover not only clearly displays the Nissan GT-R but also reveals a few vital statistics for the Porsche 911 Turbo competitor (there are speculations of the Nissan GT-R being able to lap the 'Ring in 7.38!). Starting with the Nissan GT-R's 0 - 60 time, an astonishing 3.5 seconds. A quarter mile should take no longer than 11.7 seconds and maybe most surprising the price... under USD 80,000, which is either way lower than the previously rumoured USD 94,000 for the flagship, or way higher than the USD 57,000 base model. Only time will tell how much Nissan will be charging US customers.

Next week we will know for sure whether the engine is indeed a turbocharged 3.8 liter V6 with Dual-Clutch gearbox and latest ATESSA all-wheel drive. Rumours are still that the Nissan GT-R will come in three guises, a 480hp base and V-Spec version while the top-of-the-line EVO version is expected to have 530hp.

    Re: Nissan GT-R Uncovered

At least the styling is consistent with the test mule photos that have circulated: ugly that is. I don't care how well a car performs, if I don't find the styling attractive I'm not buying it. I'm very superficial that way...

    Re: Nissan GT-R Uncovered

What a horrible angle to shoot this car from - hello distortion... but as noted the production version has been pretty faithful to the now 6 year old GTR Concept. Since this was first shown in 2001, it was not likely influenced by any of the cars mentioned by RR4, some of which were not even glimmers in 2001. My take after looking at the many videos of the car in motion is that we will need to see it in the flesh, but it looks purposefully chunky and contemporary - just not necessarily contemporary to everyone's taste.

But in general, Porsche fans should be applauding this car - even if you would never buy one, some competition in the 2+2 fast coupe field is never bad. The N-ring times are just to goad Porsche... as performance car nuts we all benefit in the end it seems to me.

You are not superficial, I would say at least 8 out of 10 buyers have to be attracted to the looks. I'm the same way .

Pretty it may not be, but I still think they will sell like hotcakes.
Ugly cars can still sell if they have the right badge, just look at the Cayenne

    Re: Nissan GT-R Uncovered

omg thats terrible looking... obviously they didnt spend any money on design... hence why its soo cheap.. i also doubt they have test driven its 10 million kms like the guys at MB for the new C class did.
its a nissan afterall.. thats gonna hunt it hahhaha

    More images

    Re: Nissan GT-R Uncovered

    Thanks

Front, maybe it'll look good in black

    Re: Nissan GT-R Uncovered

    Slightly better rear

    Re: Nissan GT-R Uncovered

The rear is the best element of the car. Between the right rear lamp and fuel lid, is that a clear indicator? I do not like the interior; the steering wheel doesn't look as purposeful as it should. The radio control and cruise control switches feel more appropriate for a sedan rather than this car.

    Re: Nissan GT-R Uncovered

Is it supposed to be that ugly? I agree with the previous post, the skylines have always been a bit on the expensive side, wouldn't most of the 30-40 crowd buy a Boxster, or a BMW M3 or something?

The ricers that will fawn over this car will not be able to afford it, prepare for many bodykits and kit cars that look like this made from econoboxes.

It's not beautiful in the least, the NSX could at least pass for a good looking car. A total hooligan car.

Have Skylines not always been ugly. My last one I owned for 7 years and I never got around to thinking it looked good. Purposeful and ugly!

It is one of those cars that needs to be driven to be appreciated. To me - It is normal Skyline looks. Nice back, dodgy front!

I bought my 997 2S last year because Nissan were taking too long and I wanted a change. But I can't get rid of my Porsche and back into one of these soon enough.

As for expensive. I expect to pay around 60'000 GBP with options. Considering I paid 75'000 GBP for my 2S i think it is a bargain. Looks aside, the only thing that will stop it selling is that it shares a stable with that automotive god the Micra!!

I love my new 997. Bit I have never considered it to be anywhere near the fun of my old Skyline. Maybe I am the playstation generation? (although at 36, I am a pensioner within it!)

So yes, I too wish it was better looking. But I won't be asking for my deposit back!

    Cheers,

    ...MAd

    3600-3800 lbs is my guess.

    Re: Nissan GT-R Uncovered

This is priced well out of the range for the teen to 20-somethings who would want it. I would think that anyone older or with more wealth would tend to pick something more aesthetically pleasing or more subdued

    Re: Nissan GT-R Uncovered

I think the whole front half of the car looks ridiculous. It all starts with the vent behind the front fender. It really destroys the car for me. Here is my two minute job with MSN Paint.

    Re: Nissan GT-R Uncovered

Its really a halo car for the rest of their line up.

Its priced right for rich kids to have their parents get them one. If the car was moderately priced no kid but a rich one could get insurance for it anyway, so why not soak their parents for another 45K on the MSRP sticker.

But its still ugly as sin.

Maybe adding some Benz SLR front fender gills would help. Wait, Ferrari has some tear shaped front intakes they could copy also!

    I completely agree.

    Also:

Front looks suspiciously like the new Mitsu lancer...
