In SF/LA, there are more than a few affluent guys who are frequent-repeat F/AMG buyers; who can and do commute daily by new AMG/F....and have no need for the silly, girlie winter wheels/tires (and reduced speeds/poor traction roads) w/which car guys in Greenwich/London/Germany need to suffer for ?5mos/yr, once temps fall below 45F....
5 yrs ago, F realized that many major CA F/AMG buyers were rather enamored w/their then-latest-tech SL55s (even vs their then-current 360, even in wkend mtn twisties driving
)....suspect much of 599 development is inspired by this need to have a daily-useable commuter and wkend car for this jaded crowd in the major SiliconValley/BevHills mkts....which both have nearby mtn twisties for yr-round wkend driving...and, in case of SiliconValley, one of world's fastest urban fwys, which quickly reveals any car's real-world tq/shift speeds/any turbo lag in routine daily commuting....
F has solved quality/reliability/daily-useability issues w/its 599 (IMO easily exceeds 997TT in all these measures), but F has failed to solve its passive safety issues/risks...perhaps higher-vol produc w/Dino will allow F to have infrastruc/scale for better safety R&D/engineering....
Until F engineers more competent AMG-like safety, suspect many jaded repeat buyers in CA will opt for CL63 for their daily and most of their wkend driving....risk exposure of 599/Scud is likely to be limited by most owners who have limited tolerance for elevated risk of injury/death in any collision...and who have no desire to figure out how to become a wkend amateur firefighter.....
And the several guys I know who own both CL63 and 599 seem to favor their CL63, even in mtn twisties, for overall perf/safety/precision risk/reward balance....doubt Scud will change that observation....but will be fun to do back-to-backs to confirm....conventional wisdom is often wrong; need to do own back-to-backs to draw intelligent, subjective conclusions....
