Anybody knows where is it possible to rent a GT3 or something like that?

First of all I'd prefer a PSM-equipped TT over the GT3 for a beginning session any day. Further more, contrary to others, the Nürburgring Northloop is dangerous since it has a lot of changes of tarmac (hence different levels of grip, especially in the wet), bumpy sections and very limited amount of safety zones.

That said, a trackday with a couple of experienced drivers that know the track and a car's behaviour is probably the best thing to choose. After all, I'd prefer it over a tourist day anytime.

Re: Rennteam meet at Nürburgring 2008

Ferdie, you are right to some extend - well, totally regarding the GT3 - thats a nono as a beginner
I know the perceptiion of danger is very subjective, and hence we can debate this forever, but I must say, that I spent a lot of time wondering if I should even go to NBR, let alone bring my Boxey. When I finally got there, I spent more than 2 hours crapping my masculine pants before going onto the NBR itself.
All the dramatic stories had gotten the better of me - and being seriously aware of NOT wanting to trash my car, I was probably more alert than most.
BUT! When I finally got on the NBR and drove it myself with an experienced co-pilot it was SO much more fun, and less scary than I could ever imagine.

Sure, the tarmac changes etc - true, that is potentially dangerous.
But YOU decide how fast you wanna go into the corners, how aggressive you wanna be etc.
Let's face it. This is 22 kilometres of track - you wont get reallly familiar with every twist and turn over a weekend, not even 10 weekends, so take it easy, and enjoy being an NBR rookie

I know that spot. Just discovered an unwanted hole in my pants (no, not the one with the zipper )

Just wanted to point out there are more appropriate places (like the Nürburging GP-track) to explore your sportscar's characteristics for the very first time - due to the lack of space off the track. Didn't want to scare anybody! I would, by all means, encourage anybody to go!

Next time you guys join me for a lap I'll make sure to have some diapers with me

Guys I'll make sure to collect some helpful information about the prerequisites for such an event. It's not just handing over the cheque to the N-GmbH.
It needs some serious organisational work for sure.
Issues: organisation of the event itself (Marshals, Ambulance cars etc.), and also insurance/legal aspects. I'm not talking about the car insurance itself, but the "host's" liability in case something goes wrong. Example: someone is involved in an accident (god forbid ) and may claim that a marshal was missing waving a yellow flag at a dangerous spot - host's liability.

Therefore I still think it's the best way to outsource the orga to a well known organisation familiar with track events - as mentioned before by ScottL

I'm just about to gather some infos about such a scenario - just some days patience please

Of course you can avoid the orga hassle by just meeting-up for a so-called tourist drive. Certainly not that entertaining (and safe) like a closed event (o.k. maybe not - we all don't know how our dear fellow Rennteamers behave on a track; just kidding of course ), but still a lot of fun if you avoid the typical prime times.

Re: Rennteam meet at Nürburgring 2008

PJ, good points. And we'll await more info.
Ferdie, NBR is ABSOLUTELY NOT a place to test one's skills as a rookie.
For that you need a place like the GP track or any other closed, real circuit.
I'm seeing this whole event as a chance for a lot of Rennteamers to meet up, have some fun and experience the Holy Grail of tracks while doing so.

I dont see this as a driving seminar. If you want that, I can have a genuine Porsche instructor set up a seminar for us on SPA.
You know what? Ill contact him about NBR - cuz I know he has courses there, too. Maybe he can arrange the whole thing for us?!? (Clever me!)

If we can get the track to ourselves and ge instructors to help - sure, it will be more like a regular trackday - but no matter what, the NBR is no ordinary track, and certainly not a place to make rookie mistakes while trying to powerslide or similar.

No matter how this works out, I'm 100% sure it will be a great weekend with lots of fun and driving experiences.

Re: Rennteam meet at Nürburgring 2008

Any chance a "celebrity" driver could be added to the mix, e.g., WR, particularly if this were a "closed" Rennteam event?

Re: Rennteam meet at Nürburgring 2008

Getting hold of top driving talent won't be a problem - provided they are going to be paid for their time and that we give enough notice. The likes of Ron Simmons charge Euro 125 per hour - worth every cent. We'll also need quite a few instructors as they can only handle 6 drivers each per day max. Walter might be hard to get hold off though. Not sure he'd want to instruct - probably just do hot demonstration laps.

I would add that those of you who have never been on track before and are thinking of coming to this event would be well advised to go to a couple of local trackdays first.

The Ring is not the ideal place for your first outing on track. Get a grasp of the basics on a flat well sighted circuit - somewhere like Bedford Autodrome here in the UK is perfect.

    ResB, good call Thanks.
No, no news. The info I got from the Ringers was of no real value.
I will have to contact NBR and ask them.
I'll get on it this week.

Re: Rennteam meet at Nürburgring 2008

Excellent. If I can help I will.

Re: Rennteam meet at Nürburgring 2008

    Bump...

Re: Rennteam meet at Nürburgring 2008

Awesome idea. Its been almost 3 years since my last track day. I feel like a junkie without his fix. Anytime towards the end of may or begginning of june is possible

Re: Rennteam meet at Nürburgring 2008

The nurburgring doesn't have to be dangerous, as long as your the only one on the track and your going 1mph. As the speed/multiple cars/blind turns come into play, it's a different animal...

Safety first!, good luck with the logistics Dr. Phil.

Re: Rennteam meet at Nürburgring 2008

    Count me in

Re: Rennteam meet at Nürburgring 2008

Wheather can still be pretty bad in April so I would recommend a later date.

I am in anyway - whether winter tires or "slicks"

Re: Rennteam meet at Nürburgring 2008

    Shameless bump....

DOC! I noticed the Dates are up, well okay, I didn't but a friend gave me the heads up. That's what mates do ya see.

    http://www.nuerburgring.de/events.286.0.html

    Fill ya boots...

Re: Rennteam meet at Nürburgring 2008

i'm in and pleased to give a hand for the organisation.

    Don't care about the date

Re: Rennteam meet at Nürburgring 2008

I'll be there too, no doubt!

    Porscheless though...

Re: Rennteam meet at Nürburgring 2008

I'm flooded in work these days, so I cant arrange anything right now. PLEASE contact NBR and book/arrange if you can.
Ill see what I can do in the breaks I have inbetween work.
Ill be there, but prolly also Porsche-less
