Rate your top four drivers 2007 season

Not interested in who was the biggest whinger/blackmailer/liar/drinker.. , just who drove better in 2007 with a brief explanation.

    1. Lewis Hamilton - Exceptional talent, no mistakes. Exact same equipment as much more experienced 2 x WDC and outdrove him most of the time.

    2. Kimi Raikkonen - Slow start to the season but once settled in was very very quick. Probably quickest on overall pace.

    3. Felipe Massa - Very good when leading from the front, but several costly mistakes caused by feeling pressure.

    4. Fernando Alonso - Too many mistakes caused by trying to match Hamilton. Did not look like a WC for most of the season. Occasional brilliance but not good enough to be placed ahead of Massa in my opinion.

For me the ranking would be:

    - Hamilton (he is the new mega talent - the only driver that comes close to MS' skills)
    - Heidfeld (very strong performance in a medium quality car)
    - Rosberg (same as for Heidfeld)

Alonso: this GP season has highlighted that Alonso is just a bit above average, but clearly no mega talent. A 22yr old newcomer beat Alonso on and off the track...
Raikkonen: beaten way too often by Massa, Raikkonen will never be a leading driver, just some of the better

Re: Rate your top four drivers 2007 season

    For me:
    1. Hamilton - even better than MS in his debute season. Out of this world!
    2. Kubica - young and very talented too, but with worse equipment...
    Others don't matter...

Re: Rate your top four drivers 2007 season

    HeidFeld
    Hamilton
    Webber
    Button

Re: Rate your top four drivers 2007 season

Personally I believe that, especially this year, the number of points a driver got really reflects what happened (maybe with the exception of Massa). I don't care if somebody is the best driver ever if it's not constant or kills the car frequently.

    So two races before end:
    1. Hamilton
    2. Alonso
    3. Kimi
    4. Massa ? - still, he has three wins
    5. Heidfeld - special award
    6. Kubica - special award (I have a soft spot for him)

Re: Rate your top four drivers 2007 season

    And situation up to date:

    Pos Driver Nationality Team Points
    1 Lewis Hamilton British McLaren-Mercedes 107

3 Kimi Räikkönen Finnish Ferrari 90
4 Felipe Massa Brazilian Ferrari 80
5 Nick Heidfeld German BMW 56
6 Robert Kubica Polish BMW 35
7 Heikki Kovalainen Finnish Renault 30
8 Giancarlo Fisichella Italian Renault 21
    9 Nico Rosberg German Williams-Toyota 15
    10 Alexander Wurz Austrian Williams-Toyota 13

Re: Rate your top four drivers 2007 season

Purely on driving performances alone (for the same kind of reasons others have said above)

    1) Hamilton
    2) Alonso
    3) Heidfeld
    4) Raikkonen

Re: Rate your top four drivers 2007 season

Sato is possibly the most under rated drive in F1. His entire team's budget is about equal to Alonso's base salary.
With scrapyard F1 parts he has done pretty well to stay in the game at all.

Mclaren is just too greasy to trust anymore. At any time on the track they can dial one cars hp up or down a few. They had already invested millions in training Hamilton so no wonder they would indulge in espionage against Ferrari and play games with Alonso mind.

Kimi and Massa are both excellent drivers. They would likely be the two front runners if McLaren had not relied upon stolen Ferrari technical data to beat them earlier this season.

    top drivers 2007

I honestly hava a hard time to decide this year. In recent years M. Schumacher was the yardstick that anybody else was compared to.

I still have a hard time figuring what is going on at McLaren themselves and the F1 business as a whole reg. espionage claims. Let's hope that we don't see any more of this. The first third to half of the season was dilluted a bit since many drivers had difficulties to adapt to this season's Bridgestone tires. It was well known that aggressive driving styles didn't get along, Ralf Schumacher, Kubica and Alonso probably being the most prominent drivers suffering from that. Hamilton is for sure a fast driver, but so have been others. I do believe being McLaren's protege brought him into a comfortable position, resting in a defensive position. Next years will show if he truly is a world champion, once he has to take the lead.

What some of you might not have registered, but have been discussed frequently on German television, has been Adrian Sutil's performance in the Spyker. Propelling his team, close to bankruptancy, up to 8th place in Japan's GP is a marvellous achievement, if you consider how well and dominately he faired against drivers like Winkelhock or Albers (who was very competitive in DTM racing a couple of years ago) you might realize that his performance is on par of some later world champions in their debut years.

Heidfeld miraculously trumped Kubica in almost every GP, remarkable for a guy who was passed over a cockpit at McLaren in favour of Raikkonen for example.

I see Alonso and Hamilton on par and at one position, Sutil, Heidfeld and Rosberg further more. The later seems to have great potential and might further improve in upcoming years. From this year's races I do believe he drives with the heart, less with his mind. After all you have to aks what goes into this equation, I considered this ranking to represent the most complete drivers over the whole season so far.

    Re: top drivers 2007

For pure speed I'd have to go with Raikkonen. He makes mistakes, doesn't necessarily always seem committed, but in equal cars if I were to put my money on one guy since Senna to put up the fastest race lap it would be Kimi or Schumi.

He also has guts too. I know it's silly to say, and it didn't happen, but this is the 3rd championship that Kimi could have one with only minimal differences. In marginally luckier circumstances he could easily have been a 3 timer by the end of this season.

Obviously he isn't, he makes mistakes, and doesn't really make his own luck, but I think he's step above the "almost top-tier driver" category people put him in.

Re: Rate your top four drivers 2007 season

1.Hamilton, the young star of 2007, no doubt.

2.Kimi Raikkonen. After a tough start, he showed what he can do. That's beat everyone with his ferrari while McLaren has the best car by far

    3. Vettel. Great job

    4. Kubica.

I wonder who'd be the worst driver? I'd have to say alonso disappointed a lot this season. Eveyone was excpecting a lot more from him. Including me. After all, he's the world champion. What happened to you Alonso?

Kubica? Not that he is a bad driver but what on earth makes him get into Top 4?

One sidenote regarding Alonso: it has been mentioned quite a couple times in the press that not only Renault, but Toyota and especially Ferrari are interested in him, replacing Massa. Do you guys seriously believe that they would start that action if he wouldn't give them reason to do it?

Re: Rate your top four drivers 2007 season

    1. Hamilton - considering his rookie status. Deserves title.

    The rest:

    - Kimi/Massa/Alonso - have lacked consistency.
    - Kubica/Heidfeld/Kovalainen - really hard to rate due to their inferior cars.

IMO, only Hamilton has really impressed this year.
