PCCB Help Pls: Part No. for the Wheel "Guide" Bolt

To prevent damage to the PCCB rotor during wheel change, Porsche sells a "guiding" rod/bolt that allows you to keep the wheel from hitting the rotor as you are removing the wheel.

Do you know the part number for this & does it have some sort of official name please? I understand it's a $10-20 item and does not come with the car?

    Thanks in advance.

Re: PCCB Help Pls: Part No. for the Wheel "Guide" Bolt

I don't have the part number for the Porsche OEM guide rod but I bought two of these wheel hangers from Boothe Design instead.

Performance Products 1-800-423-3173, Solid Brass Wheel Bolt Alignment Tool, 14mm Wheel Alignment Tool, 883389, $29.95 ea.

I bought 2 and keep them in the car.

Re: PCCB Help Pls: Part No. for the Wheel "Guide" Bolt

    Hi

In europe the part you are looking for comes with the car. (I have got a 997 GT3)

Re: PCCB Help Pls: Part No. for the Wheel "Guide" Bolt

With PCCB's you should get two - the Porsche part is about $10-$12 while the ones from Boothe and Performance products are $29+

Re: PCCB Help Pls: Part No. for the Wheel "Guide" Bolt

    She's worth it..

Re: PCCB Help Pls: Part No. for the Wheel "Guide" Bolt

I should order this then. What's the difference between the one from Porsche & the one from Performance products?
Maybe I'm missing something, why do I need 2 of them?

Re: PCCB Help Pls: Part No. for the Wheel "Guide" Bolt

I'm not sure what the differences are. I have the ones from Boothe Design. Probably a different material or design?

If you had just one, the tire/wheel could potentially move to either side when you pull them off. With two guide rods in place one on top and one at the bottom, it pulls straight off without any risk of touching the ceramic rotors.

Ahhh, I see what you're saying, I thought maybe you kept one as a spare of something, I'm glad I asked,, thanks.

Boothe product is brass while Porsche is aluminum. Owner's manual says use two for PCCB for the reasons Atomic80 stated.

That's where I just ordered mine from.

Re: PCCB Help Pls: Part No. for the Wheel "Guide"

    Thanks, you guys are great.
BTW, my local dealer in Southern Cal. charges $13 for the same part--99957107430. A reminder once again to order from Sunset, Suncoast, etc. whenever possible.
I am going to switch out the wheels (don't like the OEM multi-slat wheels) as soon as the car is here so these will come in handy.

Performance is brass also. Brass won't scratch your wheel, not sure about aluminum.

Oh no, did I cheap out? I try never to do that,,,,, I beat myself up too much when I do,,,,, so its never worth it, but figured all they do is line up the wheel so you'd have a much greater chance of the threaded wheel bolts scratching a rim than a smooth aluminum rod, wouldnt you?

Re: PCCB Help Pls: Part No. for the Wheel "Guide"

No worry - the Porsche guide won't scratch your wheel.

Re: PCCB Help Pls: Part No. for the Wheel "Guide"

Go with two of the aluminum ones. Brass WILL scratch wheel paint. With PCCBs you need two as a minimum.

I keep mine stored inside the tool kit that comes with the car,--if you look carefully you can see where you can tuck two in there,--obviously where they are SUPPOSED to go if Porsche wasn't so cheap.

    Dan

Re: PCCB Help Pls: Part No. for the Wheel "Guide"

How do you know that brass will scratch? Have you tried comparing the two? I haven't but the dealership has for me and I haven't noticed any scratches in the lug holes as a result.

Re: PCCB Help Pls: Part No. for the Wheel "Guide"

Aluminum is vastly softer than brass,--also lighter. You need to keep these in the car all the time just in case. The brass tips are more aggressive,--the alu. are tapered nicely.
