    430 scud- full 100kg weight saving over 430 only b

    just read the MSN review , below. They seem to suggest that full weight saving will only come at a price and that lightweight cf extras have to be ordered over and above base scud price


    "The steering wheel has LEDs across the top that light up sequentially as the rev limit approaches. This is an option and there are many more. Indeed, you won't get the full 100kg weight saving unless you specify, and pay extra for, some of the lightweight panels. The Pounds200k 430 is here."

    CEXF Headlights and front splitter carbon, weight saving 1,5 kg Price appr.- 5 000 euros
    CEXR Rear Diffuser and hood in carbon, weight saving 10 kg Price appr. -16 000 euros
    CEXS Door sills in carbon painted in car color, weight saving 4 kg, Price appr.-7 000 euros


    racing stripe (only in silver)
    gold rims
    caliper color
    rev led's (steering wheel)
    4 point harness (not for US)
    rollbar (not for US)
    seat fabrics (standard alacantra/tech fabric), otherwise choice of full alacantra or leather
    paint to sample
    carbon rear diffuser
    carbon surrounding headlights and front splitter

    Not surprising if true rumor....

    F is struggling (as are all mfrs) w/keeping base prices at certain, psychologically acceptable lvls....while figuring out how to increase profit margins and create profit growth for shareholders...but preserve elite brand image....the intersection of finance/R&D/marketing....

    Am always intrigued w/F, esp in SF/Greenwich, where most repeat custs get cars at MSRP and trade-in for MSRP after 6-12mos of use, why most buyers are rather effeminate re: options choices/costs ....e.g., supposedly only some 25% of 430s in US (land of amazing/absurd resale value for elderly, used F's ) are spec'd w/CCM....in more jaded SF region, only some 50% of 430s are spec'd w/CCM....lots of girlie brakes and grandpa seats among the many archaic-tech 430s out there.....

    Suspect most Scuds will be similarly poorly-spec'd....most F buyers (or any buyers of discretionary cars) are seeking an "image"; are not very familiar w/perf/safety/tech specs; rarely drive their discretionary cars anyway (the collectibles mentality); and are fairly cost-averse, even in climate of robust F trade-in values....

    They know that most ordering a 430S will order stripped so they get you with the expensive CF options Most will opt for the lighter CF route.

    All of this pricing begs the question, is F approaching a breaking point?

    Consider this; apparently a 20% price increase for '08, a 599 in the US is approaching $400K with a few options,(all in) the 430 replacement will be much higher in price vs. the current model, the 430S will be close to $250K with some CF thrown in(add another $100K if you want to get one and pay market pricing), F will in effect double production with the California GT. The US economy is teetering.

    Where's the ceiling here? Is F getting close?

    They still might be too cheap, they sell more higher premiums than you mentionned.

    Where did you get the 20% increase for 08?

    My guess is they're gradually pricing themselves out of the market. Sure there are a guys who can write the check but when they find that they're either stuck with the car or that no one is lining up to pay huge premiums, then things will begin to falter. It may have already started.

    Is that 20% for US or ROW?

    Again, 20% for US is not enough IMHO.
    But for ROW, they are pricing themselves out...

    US. With the way the US dollar is tanking, 20% may be light.
