    Help: Stupid Porsche Key chain......

    Hi,
I just bought the Porsche carbon fibre GT keychain and as I was trying tighten the screw with the "midget sized" allen key, the thread (not sure if it is called "thread", but I am referring to the allen key shap pattern on the top of the screw) on a few of the screws got destroyed. I can't believe how soft the thread on these screws can be.

Now, for those who are proficient with tooling, can anybody help me here? How do I rebuild the thread that I just destroyed? I remember watching something on TV about this silicon based gel that you can squeeze on the destroyed thread and recreat the thread's mould. Where do I get this stuff?

    Thanks!

Re: Help: Stupid Porsche Key chain......

I bought a Momo Carbon Fiber, it's light, cool looking and pretty + inexpensive

Re: Help: Stupid Porsche Key chain......

I'd try some epoxy. Just verrry carefully epoxy the allen wrench into the deformed screwhead. You'd have to wait a few _days_ for the epoxy to gain it's full torsional strength before you try to turn the wrench. Maybe there's another epoxy-type product that's better ("Liquid Metal") at local hardware store.

Wheew..., at least it's not a broken head bolt your dealing with.

Man...wait for a few days? Damn, that's going to suck because the keychain is already attached to my key.

Alright, I will see if this will work.

    Thanks!

Re: Help: Stupid Porsche Key chain......

Yeah, Epoxy takes a short time to harden but a long time to cure (gain full strength). Try it overnight, if that doesn't work redo it and wait longer... . BTW, it might not work at all.

Try drilling the head off next, when disassembled hopefully there's enough of a stub remaining to grab it with pliers.

If nothing else works do what I would do in cases like this: smash the stupid thing and throw it down the toilet!

Re: Help: Stupid Porsche Key chain......

Alright, good news, I took the screws off. Now the hard part is trying to find some replacement screws for it. I don't want to order the OEM screws, because they are so damn soft.

Now the search for these tiny screws begins!

Hehe. I've "been there done that." Good luck.

Re: Help: Stupid Porsche Key chain......

I got that keychain as a gift, very clunky. bad product.
