    Alpine A110

It looks like Renault may have delivered a credible alternative to the Cayman in terms of driving dynamics. All credit to them for having the courage to develop a complete new platform for a low volume model.

Fully agree - seems to be a lovely balance between style, fun, and usability, which the Alfa 4C did not quite manage for many potential owners.  Now to see whether buyers put their money where their mouths have been re. affordable performance cars...  Too bad North America sales will be impossible because of Renault's non-existence here... an A110 on studded winter tires would be a tremendously fun winter beater.

We had a look around one at Geneva earlier this year.. looked really cool, everyone liked it. Just the price point seemed to put people off a bit.

Not a fan of the styling; too retro Alpine. Should have tried a more modern interpretation.

    Re: Alpine A110

    the rear is especially ugly

    Re: Alpine A110

I will definitely  have a test drive a some stage . I like the genes of this car . The local Renauld dealer hase now a dedicated Alpine section with a big outside sign . Looks like they are pushing seriously the brand

I would consider one if not for two problems:

    1.  No manual gearbox

    2.  Not made for US market...

As a French, you have to appreciate the effort Renault is making in this exercise. No manual in 2017 is actually a plus and not a minus.

Yeah, seems like nobody wants a GT4, 911R, GT3 Touring or GT3 Manual (all selling over MSRP)...

The ones that are manual only should fail miserably by your logic

    Re: Alpine A110

Where does failure come one play?

GT4 was a fantastic deal because Porsche wasn’t sure it would sell and they mispriced it. They sold plenty and won’t repeat the cheap price mistake. If offered as PDK they could have sold many many more but would have kills GTS sales.

911R was the best looking 911 in modern history, the first GTx without a wing and sold to Porsche VIPs to create an artificial halo around it. It was oversubscribed times over.

GT3 touring is what Porsche enthousiasts really want minus the PDK. It will sell relatively well but would sell multiple times over is it had PDK. If offered as PDK it would have cannibalized GTS sales, their very high margin product.

Regular GT3 is sold as manual and PDK. Clearly PDK outsells manuals.

Again, clearly, not being offered as manal is clearly not an issue, on the contrary.

I don't know why it reminded me of "porsche" powered Karmann ghia, do you guys remember this?, anyhow, seems nice car to drive

YTD November the ratio of PDK:Manual of the GT3s produced for the US/Canadian market is 50:50 .  Even Porsche itself was surprised by this . There is still demand for manual transmissions in sport cars.

    Re: Alpine A110

US and Canada have manual die hards, ROW not so much.

    Re: Alpine A110

50-50 for  a 1000 cars till now is nothing compare to worldwide numbers.

ratio here for instance is about 80-20, 80 is pdk...

Europe is about the same as middle East and could be worst!

overall production will be about 30% manual...this is 911R numbers...smiley so much mark-up for a bigger production car than a regular manual GT3 angry

I wish Renault well but I think they will fail (similar to Alfa Romeo with their 4C).

Too much money for a Renault...under 50k EUR...maybe success. Over 50k? No chance.

Cars cost almost 60k, with options more.

Could be an interesting buy if used and a couple of months old, also maybe some interesting lease offers along the way (718 has currently amazing lease offers in Germany).

Yeah was thinking exactly about the 4C myself. Over here it’s priced about 15% under the 718 yet no one is buying them. In fairness they haven’t received the best reviews. For a Renault to be priced so high, it will not sell. Guaranteed.

    Re: Alpine A110

And on top of that, the 4C looks gorgeous, the Alpine... absolutely horrible if you ask me.  Puke.png

    Re: Alpine A110

I think you guys remembered that I wanted to buy an 4C, too. Well - after test driving my passion was kind of gone. The steering just didn't seem to be right. I liked the car because it was different and it had this carbon monocoque. I like extraordinary cars which you cant see on every corner. Doesn't need to be the fastest or most exclusive, but somehow different. So I ended up with my Morgan, which couldn't make me any more happy.

However, if you think of an car to track and having fun, I probably choose an older Boxster with an 6 cylinder engine. If you can afford got for an GT4 - amazing car with a prosperous future!

    Re: Alpine A110

I'd rather have an Elise 250 Cup .. which is even lighter, and cheaper. And faster. And much better looking.
