    Re: GT2 7:32 confirme (video)

What kind a company would undercut its flagship car, the CGT, by building and selling a car (GT2) costing $250,000 less with the same performance parameters?

How does this make the owners of the CGT who have already suffered horrendous depreciation feel?

    Re: GT2 7:32 confirme (video)

Didn't the F430 undercut the 575? CGT production has been over for awhile

One would assume since CGT production halted some time ago, the newer GT2 is fair game to release.

    Re: GT2 7:32 confirme (video)

CGT can EASILY do 7:28, trust me ...

    Re: GT2 7:32 confirme (video)

The 575 was a GT car. Both the CGT and GT2 are strictly performance cars. The fact that CGT production stopped in 2006 should not allow Porsche to compromise its status one year later. Its nothing more than Porsche grabbing for dollars at the expense of its most loyal customer base.

One other point. If you believe the reputed production numbers, the GT2 will be more limited production than the CGT. Talk about adding insult to injury.

Porsche claimed 7:28 for the CGT vs. 7:32 for the new GT2. Thus, there is a gap of 4s between the claimed times

    Re: GT2 7:32 confirme (video)

I don't see what the problem is. I would stil take a CGT over a GT2 any day and gladly pay the differential in cost.

Nick, didn't you know each second under 7.30 costs $100k

Seriously, I see no problem with the GT2 getting close to CGT performance.
    Cars get faster.
I have a problem with the 997TT underperforming however.

What depreciation on CGT? They trade around $370k slightly used and $400k in perfect condition, that is really not that bad.

A good car company with an eye towards the future and progress. If the current car cannot be cheaper and faster than a 3 yr old car, then we will all still be driving Model Ts.

Anyway the CGT and the GT2 is in 2 different catagory, just as you said it, 430 and 575 is in different catagory

CGT is a convertible mid engine car, GT2 is a hardtop rear engine car, CGT was a purpose build racecar project converted to road duty and the GT2 is a performance car build on a regular production car shell. I just do not see both of them as in the same catagory.

The official CGT time at the Ring is 7.32 the same as the GT2. What is interesting the GT2 has almost 100 less hp and heavier. The CGT was suppose to be the state of the art road race car. To introduce a model within one year that rivals it in performance at less than 1/2 the price is inexcusable.

The CGT has sold for almost $100,000 less than MSRP. I believe there is one on Ebay with 29 miles selling for $329,000. Pathetic.

    Re: GT2 7:32 confirme (video)

nberry only you have a problem with this... LOL

i know a CGT owner and i couldn't care less..

just shows the difference i guess hey..

Why is it that I just had to think about the 997TT while reading your post

Just checked again: Röhrl was quoted to have driven a 7:28 in the CGT when the car was tested in the press 4 years ago. Also, Porsche says that latest Cup tires reduce the NBR lap time by 5-7s. Thus, with modern tires the CGT should be ca. 10s faster on the NBR than the GT2.

    Re: GT2 7:32 confirme (video)

Even the CGT just finished production 1 1/2 years ago...the development of the car is some years ago. The GT2 had been just modeled over the last 2 years. Improvements in supension and car handling is tremendous over few years.

You mean like Ferrari have just done with the Scuderia outperforming the Enzo at Fiorano?

    it's not inexcusable , it's a great deal for the guys getting a GT2

Than you must obviously feel the same about the new Ferrari Scuderia performing better than the Enzo, as it's faster around Ferrari's Fiorano circuit don't ya know.

He'll come back and say that's a different case as the Enzo was out of production for a few years now.

    Re: GT2 7:32 confirme (video)

When was the CGT was first introduced? Were there any real serious design changes during production? Didn't the CGT outperform the Evo 1 at 1/2 the cost? When was the 959 performance surpassed? At what cost? Time moves on, we should applaud Porsche for the GT2, CGT performance at 1/2 the cost!

    Re: GT2 7:32 confirme (video)

My 2 pennyworth.......There is too much obsession with the NBR time being THE definative measure of a Porsche, to some it obviously is, but simply to evaluate the 997GT2 and the CGT based on this measure alone is IMO pretty stupid.

The CGT is a bespoke marvel, a CF exotic built using Porsche principles it is 100% bespoke, georgeous, intoxicating and to drive, it is quite frankly a beast.

Porsche have never before produced a road car with such torque available with this type of throttle response. Yes the 997GT2 will post fast or faster 0-300 times (my 11 y/o 993tt does that) but the power will not be as raw and brutal.

The 997GT2 is "just" a 996/997 even more finely honed, as is said the march of time (development) allows the engineers to make the GT2 close in lap times to the CGT but please they should not be spoken of in the same breath

IMO being able to buy a good second hand CGT for within Pounds100K (147Euro) makes the 997GT2 appear very expensive......

Overall, I agree with this, with minor quibble-the GT2 is the torque monster versus the CGT (501 lb-ft in the GT2 versus 437 in the CGT) which helps explain the GT2's performance versus the CGT despite inferior peak HP in the GT2 (530 bhp) versus 605 in the CGT. Indeed, even the stock 996TTS has more peak torque (457) than does the CGT.

If you notice I purposely said "torque available with this type of throttle response"
It is the immediacy of the (5.7ls worth) torque delivery at all rpm which sets the CGT apart from all other Porsches.... I know about Porsche turbo torque, I run engine dyno 800NM (600lb/ft) in my 1450kg tt daily driver and whilst this makes for quicker "on paper" acceleration times people plainly mistake this for what the CGT can give you -The CGT is a beast
