    One sunny Friday afternoon...

    Here it is.
PCCB, xenons, sound plus, tinted screen and not much else, just the way I think it should be. The weather was just fabulous when we drove it out of the showroom, only to spend two full hours around the corner in solid traffic. The clutch made itself known.

850 km since then, almost 700 km on the first tank, but I think that is the last time I got such distance.

I have lots of first impressions, but since I follow the more traditional thinking in terms of break-in procedure, I will wait until I open the stops to give you an overall opinion. The bottom line, of course, is that this car is a dream. Much more of an animal, though, then the pictures alone of the beautiful shape have led me to believe.

One more thing about break-in: I have been taking it up to no more than 5 thousand rpm, shifting all the time, varying speed, etc, and in these last 850 km, the engine has slightly, but still notably changed note and vibrations in a positive way. This is expected, I know, and in my mind this only supports the idea of a proper(ish) break-in. It's not just the engine, but the gear change, also. I would have to be possessed to "drive it like I stole it" from the off.

    The pictures, then.

    WOW!!!!!!!! Absolutely beautiful.

By the way, what is your impression of the PCCB's? Have you noticed the difference in stopping power?

    Jim

    Re: One sunny Friday afternoon...

Lovely car. Respect and enjoy her in health.

By the way, does anyone have a 997 GT3 that isn't white???

    Re: One sunny Friday afternoon...

LOVE that car. Congrats. How are the speed limits there.

    Re: One sunny Friday afternoon...

    Congrats! Beauty- just love it!!!

At the top of my list for my next car.

    Re: One sunny Friday afternoon...

Thanks to all of you. It's great we have this enthusiasm in common.

Jim, the PCCB's have hardly received any work so far. I am using the first inch of travel to cover all situations since I am not going too fast. As for bedding-in the brakes, I am first waiting for the engine and transmission to settle. The gearchange is starting to come around, though.
One funny observation - the brake pedal is way to high for heel and toe for regular use. You really have to flex your ankle to get down to the gas pedal when braking with regular traffic. But I can imagine it will be just perfectly set up for situations where you are hard on the brakes. One difference with regular cars, the pedal bites in the first centimeter of travel.
Also, sport driving shoes in this car don't have to be used, it is better to wear regular-width shoes. I have a theory that it is because Röhrl doesn't like slim shoes either. I always see him in wider shoes than could be expected given his status.

Neil: The national speed limit is 130 km/h, in town it is 50 km/h (81 and 31 mph). There is a proposal now to raise the highway limit to 160 km/Ph (100 mph) on some parts.
In general, our roads don't enjoy the standards of Germany or Switzerland, but the road network is extensive and the new stretches are fine. I have a few routes where I can drive for hours on new smooth tarmac. Too bad that getting there involves covering the old roads as well.

    Re: One sunny Friday afternoon...

Congratulations, Marek and thank you for the very nice pictures. She's a beauty !

    Re: One sunny Friday afternoon...

Greetings Nico (and Cram). Whenever I was in Switzerland in the past two years, I always thought to myself, how nice it would be to travel that country in a car like this. I will get to do that very soon now and can't wait.

    Re: One sunny Friday afternoon...

Many congratulations - that's a fantastic car you have there...!

I happened to be in Prague last weekend. A beautiful city...how are you coping with the cobblestone roads?

    Re: One sunny Friday afternoon...

I'm in love with your car!!

How could you get 700km in the first tank, that's insane!

Yesterday I saw the first 997 gt3 riding in the streets, yellow colour, and some aftermarket wheels.....

My jaw dropped when he passed me, I was driving with all windows closed, and still WHAT A SOUND!!!! , there is no comparison between the 997 carrera's and 997 gt3's, absolutely no comparison in engine sound, what a race car it is

    Re: One sunny Friday afternoon...

    beautiful.. just stunning :P
