Annoying Seat belt reminder / Any Solution welcome

First of all: Please no teaching answers like - wear the belt, and so on!

For me the seat belt reminder is very annoying. When I take the car in the morning to the post, and go shopping, I have to buckle up for just a couple of meters. In my BMW it starts after 300 meter to ring, but the Porsche starts immeaditly above 3 km/h - this sucks!

No - I dont want to take a second buckle from a old car and put it in, as I want to use the belt whenever I go for a longer driver. So, I need kind of a technical solution, like finding the right fuse, finding the right wires and close the electical loop on them, that the car always thinks I'm buckled up or something like this.

I was at my dealer and he told me there is no way to code it with the Car Programmer. I just dont believe him, anyway - any retrofittable solution would be highly welcome!

    Thanks, L@rs

On 997 GT3 can be disable by the dealer through the diagnostic PC. It is needed when you wear the 6 point belt. Only the sound is disabled, the red light stays on all the time.

Re: Annoying Seat belt reminder / Any Solution welcome

Undertook the same exercise with OPC and PIWIS. Went through all the screens and couldn't find an entry to disable the warning chime. There may be a way using the tester, but it might be a hidden menu if so.

Re: Annoying Seat belt reminder / Any Solution welcome

I had mine disconnected a long time ago.
They can do it trough with the computer they log into the car. It took him about one minute to do so.
But it was very difficult to have them accept to do it.
I had to INSIST A LOT, and said I knew exactly how they can do it and do not want their BS answers.
They finally accepted when I said I will sign a release paper.

Re: Annoying Seat belt reminder / Any Solution welcome

The dealer did it for me. It is good to have "friends" amongst the mechanics because they did it in 30 seconds usign the diagnostics computer. A zip! Fast! Don't take BS answers from them because they CAN do it. Of course, the red light stating that the seat belts need to be fastened will stay on, but there will be NO annoying chime.

I don't even have the red light seat belt. They disconected everything.

They key answer is SIGNING A RELASE PAPER. It could well be that they are ^not allowed otherwise to do the diconection.

Thanks for the news! I'll be out this week over to the dealer to see if they will also make the light go out.

Re: Annoying Seat belt reminder / Any Solution wel

Did it in 10 minutes on an SUV I had.

    Remove instrument cluster.

Find tone generator (looks like a black one-hole button) on circuit board.

Fill hole of TG with silicone or hot glue.

    No more tone.

Haven't been forced to do it on a Porsche yet because the thing keeps it's mouth shut most of the time, the SUV was warning me about the dangers of every freeking thing..., it HAD to go.

Re: Annoying Seat belt reminder / Any Solution wel

Me, I turn off my hearing aid. Of course, I also don't hear the exhaust, but that's another story.

Re: Annoying Seat belt reminder / Any Solution wel

Reassuring to hear that there is indeed a way then. To those who have had it done, can they post up the menu setting within the PIWIs that allows for this. I used the tester personally and couldn't find the entry if it does indeed exist.

I just use an old seat belt clip that I got from a local body shop for free.

The mecanic did it....so I can't tell you anything. I only saw when he pluged in what looked like a lap top and then when into some menus..

Re: Annoying Seat belt reminder / Any Solution wel

    Thanks for the answers!

Any chance to get a PIWIS interface locally on the private computer?

Its annoying, having a OWN car and cant decided what this is doing or not. What the hell to they think... I pay for this car and should be able to do with it whatever I want to - isnt it? For all other things are country laws available (means speeding, wearing seat belts, etc.). This chirp is just annoying and dont bring any advantage to me!

Makes me wonder if there might be a way to conveniently and reversibly defeat the entire circuit (including getting rid of the dash alarm light) by modifying the seat belt clip "receivers."

Re: Annoying Seat belt reminder / Any Solution wel

I never ever put on my seatbelt before owning a Porsche, even back when I went to college in the US... now, the moment I buckle up, I get the feeling I'm getting on a track, and off for a badboy spin! of course I'm talking about my 5 minutes morning drive to work... AND I GET A KICK OUT OF IT! in fact I don't enjoy it anymore without the seatbelt!!! when I switch to the family SUV, I don't even think of the seatbelt... the low seating position in my Porsche, and the feel of the sport seats, just make me "want" to buckle up... anyone feels the same???
