    Would be a pretty high state of tune in comparison - the last 3.4 NA topped out at what? 350hp? You'd probably need some expensive component upgrades to get the power that high..  The same thought crossed my mind though - a NA variant of that engine..

    Well you would save on the cost of the turbos plus extra can be spent due to it being a GT product. Would be very cool of it was say 8000rpm and 3.0l engine.

    As far as I heard, no 4L GT3 engine (even not detuned) in the GT4.
    Some rumors say, new flat 6 3.8L engine n/a with particulate filters.
    Other rumors say flat 4 turbo or flat 6 turbo.

    No signs of PDK. All prototypes that have been seen until today were manual.

    This would make the most sense to me, a detuned GT3 engine or a turbo from the 718 or Carrera, would be out of character for what the GT4 concept has been to date Smiley

    As between a 3.4L and a 4.0L making the same horsepower, for performance you'd want the bigger displacement for torque reasons, even if the smaller engine might be more exciting.

    Still, why would Porsche want to develop an engine which they could only have limited use for ? I drove a 991.2 GTS the other day and I think, that additional torque from the turbo would be just fine for the GT4, but, yeah, AP said, only n/a for the GT models....Smiley

    I think the GT4 engine choice reflects a much larger issue with the overall 718 concept as a 4 cylinder.  I don't know about worldwide, but here in South Florida a new 718 of any flavor is a rare bird.  The S models are essentially $100K cars and as 4 cylinder, regardless of HP, are a hard sell.  A GT4 in any 6 cylinder guise amplifies the shortcoming of the 718 gambit and cast at least some doubt on the initial claims by Porsche that a turbo flat six could not be fit into the boxster/cayman platform. Porsche is at something of a crossroads with the GT4 because unless there is a 385HP twin turbo 4 in the GT4 the 718's long term viability immediately comes into question.

    That would be 133 hp per Litre.  The GT3 spinning to 9,000 rpm can only manage 125 hp per Litre.  And it would have much less torque than the last GT4 (or even a current base Boxster)...

    I’ve seen no more than a handful of 718s here, and half of them are base models driven by professional women.     Funny "update": Talked to a buddy today and he says that he thinks he heard that there will be a GT4 RS only, with a detuned GT3 engine, price tag similar to current GT3, maybe a few EUR less. angry He wasn't sure about it but he said he heard no GT4 but GT4 RS only. Probably more profitable for Porsche and also easier to justify higher price tag.
    Again...rumor. This guy doesn't work at Porsche Motorsport, so he is relying at rumors as well.

    This would solve the engine dilemma since one could see the GT3 engine going into a GT4RS with a pricetag to match, but not regular GT4 edición previous gen got a carrera engne, and there is no NA Carrera engine anymore.

    Just the fact that there has never been a GT4RS, and comes out wirh a GT3 engine right before the disappearance of the last NA engines, they can detune the GT3 engine as much as they need, it will still sell like hot cakes even if at GT3 pricetags IMO.

    Not on the ClubSport, which uses the rear multi link from the the GT4. The whole front clip however came from the GT3 Cup car.

    Not on the ClubSport, which uses the rear multi link from the the GT4. The whole front clip however came from the GT3 Cup car.

    On a race car, the stiff springs reduce suspension travel enough, so that the poor camber curve of the strut suspension is much less of an issue.  Neither the GT4 nor ClubSport uses multi-link rear...

    The trailing arm suspension of the early 911 also has a less than great camber curve (though better than strut) and a great way to help this is to increase spring rates, so that it doesn’t move much under load.  This is great on a track car, but not for a street car with comfort requirements...

    You can't even imagine the challenge for the engine developers right now...we seem to be at a point where things will and have to change. 

    One example: The loudness of exhaust systems cannot change anymore, so when manufacuters are developing flap operated exhaust systems to change the sound (for example in certain driving modes), the dB level needs to be the same. Manually operated exhaust flap systems are forbidden on completely new models (see new RS5).

    but the target of regular cars is funny because a tanker or a plane are burning way more than the rest of combustible engines. and by that,  I mean millions of tons more, daily. angel

    it is just easy to smoke the population and force everybody to upgrade to different technologies by going ''green'' smiley

    Offer for our German (European) GT4 lovers: My dealer just got a gorgeous GT4 factory(!) car with only 11k km on it. Car is like new (Porsche exchanged many parts), PCCB, very nice looking. Price is around 113k, lease is also possible (for Germans). Car really looks amazing.
