    Re: Tesla Roadster

A bit after 10:00 EDT and TSLA is off 6.81%, having lost over $3 billion in its market cap since its close on Thursday, but those April 1st Musk Tweets showed real spunk!

    Re: Tesla Roadster

15 months ago it was trading 180, now 246... it is a highly speculative company, no surprise in the stock price movement.

Will be back to 180 (and lower) soon - if the declinenof the last days continues. The end might be quite soon based on the recent share price development.

Actually it will stop at 183.52......then it will go back up. There is one trader who has been accurately forecasting Tesla share prices based upon his analysis of market price mechanics, not backcasting, not fundamentals, not hft spreads . He's been 100 percent accurate on Tesla and some others. If you want his Twitter account where he posts stuff pm me.

    Re: Tesla Roadster

As the end of Q1 passes, it seems that Elon Musk has decided he is the operations manager needed to run the Model 3 production line...

"Elon Musk takes charge of Tesla Model 3 production from former Apple executive"

    (2 April 2018)

    • Elon Musk has taken direct charge of Model 3 production, according to a report in The Information.
    • Former Apple exec Doug Field, formerly in charge, has been reassigned.
    • The move comes as the company is behind on the production of what was supposed to be its mass-market sedan, according to an internal email reported by Jalopnik.

Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk Tesla is shuffling its leadership after reportedly missing its first-quarter Model 3 production targets.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has taken charge of production of the company's flagship electric sedan, pushing aside former Apple executive Doug Field, according to The Information.

Field, Tesla's Senior Vice President of Engineering Field will focus on "vehicle engineering," while Musk focuses on Model 3 production.

"Model 3 production is the highest priority at Tesla, so Elon is focusing his time there while Doug focuses on vehicle engineering," a Tesla spokesperson said.

Field had been consolidating power at Tesla, since leaving Apple to join the electric automaker in 2013, the Information reported.

Tesla's future as a mass-market automaker hinges on efficient, automated production of the Model 3, but the company has faced significant issues with production speed and quality of parts.

Musk said in July 2017 that Tesla would probably be making 20,000 Model 3s per month by December, but the company then downgraded those expectations to 2,500 per week. Earlier on Monday, Jalopnik reported that Tesla was making 2,000 Model 3s per week as of the end of the first quarter.

Model 3 production issues aside, Tesla has faced an onslaught of bad news in recent weeks. the company on Thursday announced a voluntary recall of 123,000 Model S vehicles because of an issue with a power steering component. And last week, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration launched an investigation into the role of Tesla's autopilot in a crash that killed a driver in California. The NTSB faulted Tesla in a prior fatal autopilot crash.

    Re: Tesla Roadster

It's too obvious that they might need to swallow their pride and conceit and get help from the best auto assembly people in the business. Porsche had the brains to hire Toyota to fix their production issues. One of the Toyota execs even had the balls to show up at zuffenhausen with a chain saw to help make his point. We know apple execs are great with making and filling small plastic boxes, but a car weighing thousands of pounds is a whole nother matter.

    Re: Tesla Roadster

Wonder where Peter Hochholdinger is since he was hired from Audi to become Vice President of Vehicle Production at Tesla back 2016.  He led the team that set up Q5 production at the Audi’s greenfield plant in Mexico.

    Re: Tesla Roadster

2,020 model 3 last week, probably with some extra “hands”... Sonce some were expecting as low as 1,000 only, shares are up 6%...

The delivered 10% less model 3 than expaceted but that doesn’t matter really. 5,000 cars per week at end of June still forecast... Repeat and rince all the long stories and the short stories. As said above, this is all business as usual for Tesla.

All manufacturers do that, nothing new.

comparison would be a Porsche against a low equipped VW. Tesla luxury side is its price and it stops right there.

No, it's Porsche testing their car against one that came out 8-10 years earlier.

I mean, if Porsche's Mission E is going to be so great, why would they even bother testing it against a Model S? What could they possibly stand to gain by testing it against such an old car?

The Tesla S and the Tesla X are the competition right now, no matter how you look at it. So they have to test it and to see what can be done better, what mistakes shouldn't be repeated and how much of a lead (or not) Porsche has over Tesla. They need a "baseline" and the Tesla S delivers it. What should Porsche do? Use a BMW i3 instead? Smiley

The above emoji comment illustrates a lack of understanding about the automotive industry.  While the Mission E prototype in the photograph is a Porsche development vehicle, note the LB prefix for Ludwigsburg, the two Tesla vehicles have the R prefix for Regensburg, so they most likely belong to Continental, a Tier-One supplier.   This is an evaluation run and it’s unclear what is being tested.   Continental supplies Tesla with radar units, and low noise tires.   At one time Continental supplied air suspension systems to Tesla before it went to a lower cost supplier, reportedly Firestone.   Also recall that Magna, for example, has built a three motored Tesla Model S as a test bed.   Something similarly could have happened here, it is not clear beyond it is doubtful that Porsche, with this photograph, is benchmarking Tesla.

Suburban Chicago is home to a Bosch automotive facility so it is quite common for Bosch to be testing various automakers’ prototypes in downtown Chicago.  It is not the automaker doing a benchmarking test, but a key supplier conducting validation tests.

How much of that Mission E front end is completely covered and fake? It looks nothing like the concept.

Then benchmark it is. Porsche, through its sister group, should already have all relevant data as well as conducted testing at their private facilities.

    Re: Tesla Roadster

Of course Porsche benchmark is the 6 year old Tesla S, anyone here really think the opposite?

Of course Porsche can beat the benchmark, technology moves fast enough to do so. The real question is at what price will they provide a car to beat the benchmark? The biggest danger for Porsche is internal cannibalization. Who in their right mind will buy a Panamera turbo is the Mission E come out at 30% cheaper?

Did you see those red sticker on top of the Tesla's left corner of the windows (same on the Mission E). Those are the door-entry-passes for the Porsche factory. It seems that Porsche has some "long term rentals" to compare their developments. smiley

They have... Smiley Apparently cheaper than buying some. Smiley

In the past, there was an "exchange" of models with other car manufacturers (you could see Ferraris, etc. driving in Weissach) but apparently this doesn't apply to Tesla.

Btw: The Weissach passes are round and yellow...like on the Mission E. Smiley Smiley I think there are red ones too but they are round as well (similar to the emissions stickers), so they don't stand out too much. Smiley
