I'm sure everyone here is outraged, and I agree this color doesn't necessarily flatter the 599's shape or lines, but belive me I'm sure a color anthology study was done. Flat colors, and matte paint are becoming the next wave.

Seems like 50%+ of the 599s I routinely see around SF/LA are grigio silverstone....have even seen two grigio silverstone 599s simultaneously parked in front of restaurants in SF on separate occasions (only different-colored CCM calipers as quick differentiators 
)....so perhaps F is seeking to popularize an alternative color.... 
That said, the matte stuff prob has lim appeal to most repeat 599 buyers
....and red is too crass a color for 599....after all, 599 is an elder statesman's luxury commuter coupe in places like SF/BevHills/Greenwich....

Reminds me of my very first car, a 1961 VW Beetle - had exactly this matt grey colour, though they didn't charge a 20k premium for it
My second car had the same color either -- a W124 200 E Mercedes, must have been around 1991-1992.
Actually I love that color. Not sure if it's good on a 599 though. The car is too "organic". Loved it on the LP640, could also suit a 430S.
Seems that car colors are going in two completely different directions: flat and super-metallic like Merc's Alubeam.
(The car on the photo is not my former car, but it looks exactly like it)

How expensive was that highly exclusive Grogio Scuro Ferrari OEM color on your Mercedes

It get's cheaper every day, doesn't it?
Maybe, if we are lucky, they give customers money back who order this color
But honestly, I look forward to seeing the color on the IAA!
