    Rennteam meet at Nürburgring 2008

    How about planning a major NBR get-together for all Rennteamers sometime around late spring/early summer next year?

    I hear a lot of Rennteamers wanting to see NBR and I'm sure there are a few members here who would help by sharing their experience and knowledge of this legendary track.

    With such a long timeframe, perhaps even guys from outside Europe could join too?

    I might buy a BMW 135i with European Delivery in the Spring. 'Ring is a must and Rennteam meet would be great!!

    That would be great I'm in.

    What about renting the whole track just for ouselves ?
    It is possible, but I do not know the prices.
    We would need to be about 80 to 100 cars, I guess.

    Ahhh, I see - you're thinking about a special break-in procedure for your new toy
    Excellent idea, Doc - of course I ticked all the boxes/dates
    Once we have an idea of the number of participants and the date I'll be happy to help with the organisation (accomodation etc.)

    @ Gnil: in theory it's possible to rent the Ring (if I recall correctly it's 13k Euro for a full day plus expenses for stand-by ambulances plus track marshalls), but the chance is very very little if you don't have an experienced and well known trackday organisator as a host of the event.
    I'll try to gain some more intelligence and let you know...

    My main worry is Insurance - I'm with Porsche Insurance that cover two track days per year for the main driver (no premium increase but excess increases to 10% of the car's value). Don't even think of asking for cover for the 'Ring -they won't even cover it for an increased premium.

    Swap your insurance to A Manning. They cover the ring as part of their standard policy (trackdays with a recognised organiser - not public days).

    Count me in. Lets do all six dates!

    And a day at Spa too.

    Lets get RMA or Autotrack to organise it so we get insurance cover.

    If we can get 100 drivers we can hire the both Spa and the Ring for exclusive use.

    OK, let me clear something up.
    The meeting I am talking about would take place on the Nordschleife - "The Green Hell" - the classic NBR, if you will.
    I actually didnt think about the GP track, but of course this might be an option too.

    The Nordschleife is officially a public toll road. Not a racetrack. That's why the police monitor the road like any other road, and u get fined for not complying with the general laws of traffic.
    This also means that your insurance should work like it does on any other road.
    The GP track is a different story - and here you need to make sure that your insurance co allows for "test driving", "safety seminars" or whatever they call a trackday.
    My insurance co covers this as long as there is no racing and no timekeeping.

    The Nordschleife is what they specifically exclude - a GP track would be OK - it covers Silverstone, for instance also Brands Hatch, Thruxton, etc. It's Nordschleife's reputation for being an excellent place to collect cheap Porsche parts is their concern.

    Then bring your car over, do the GP track and ride with a fellow Rennteamer on the Nordschleife...?

    great idea... Im'in... and I will be pleased to share my little experience of the NRB with all of you that might need some advice. over200 laps at the ring and a 24h race this year and 2 hanseat training.
    will be great to meet all of you guys, hope that also many guys from USA and middle east can join us...

    I might be able to commit, as well, especially if I pull the trigger on the GT2 and do a Euro delivery on it-but I would be on break-in miles.... So maybe I would come a week early to break it in first.

    We with friends are planning to go on Nordschleife next year and if you will be there, it would be even better. Would be nice to meet rennteam members

    Guys - you're getting confused.

    Trackday organisers can and do rent the Nordschleife for EXCLUSIVE use. It stops being a toll road for the day. The barriers go up and off you go.

    So forget a public day. Lets get our own trackday on the Nordschleife. That way we avoid tour buses and bikers + we can easily arrange insurance cover.

    RMA are good at this sort of thing. They'll be publishing 2008 dates soon. I'll post something up here when they do.

    Okay.....sounds good....count me in. I'm missing the Ring already. If you're seriously considering taking over the Ring for a day some thought should go to the time of year. Nothing worse in driving the Ring in the rain...I know the Ring has it's own climate but where possible we need to try to limit the risk of bad weather.

    What would be really good would be a joint SPA/NBR trip, if not possible NBR all the way, it's a fabulous experience.

    This was talked about some time ago but never really got off the ground. This time please ladies and gents you won't regret it.

    Heck, I remember we tried to set a Rennteam meet for this summer already and was told something was in the works...obviously that was a let down to those looking forward to it.

    I would be down for a meet at the 'Ring...of course it's only a few minutes from my house! I sure hope this is something we can actually make happen this time.

    Dr. Phil we may have to contact the Nuerburgring office to find out if we can get the tentative schedule for next year so we aren't over lapping on such a popular weekend which would make a gathering difficult for us enthusiasts Let me know if this actually seems to be something of reality and I can assist the best i can.
