With 1000 Miles Turbo Lag and Kick Seems Lessened.

Did you notice when you first got the brand new car that the Turbo lag was distinctly present?

IOW, Floor it, accelerate and then Turbos _kick_ in. You get shoved back into the seat.

Now after my car has 1000 miles I notice this less.

Of course I'm avoiding hammering the accelerator (break in period) but I seem to notice noticeable lag is no longer present like it used to be.

Does this make any sense? Car still "performs." Turbo pressure guage still bounces around. Sport button is down.

    MMD,

It gets even better after 5K miles. If you mod the exhaust the lag is even less.

Re: With 1000 Miles Turbo Lag and Kick Seems Lessened.

It gets even better at 10k miles! I heard that the car really starts to loosen up at 12k miles so you're in for quite a ride!

Re: With 1000 Miles Turbo Lag and Kick Seems Lesse

    Sounds Good.

Please may I ask again: so what you guys are saying is the initial low-mileage _distinct_ lag DOES get shorter and resultant "kick" diminishes?

I'm wondering if something is going wrong, if I'm imagining it or if the change I describe (less lag and kick) is normal.

Re: With 1000 Miles Turbo Lag and Kick Seems Lesse

I just rolled over 20K kilometers and it is much better than after the break in was complete. Very little turbo lag, it seems to breath better and the exhaust note has improved quite a bit. I would say it is much better now than even 10K kilometers ago.

Re: With 1000 Miles Turbo Lag and Kick Seems Lesse

I'm at 1100 miles now. Coincidentally I was thinking about how the TT seems to be driving better. I'm not sure exactly how to explain it. Maybe it's just the way I'm driving or the way the throttle programming is "learning" my driving patterns. I don't know.

Does anyone have a logical or scientifically supported explanation for what all of seem to be experiencing...other than TT induced delirium?

Re: With 1000 Miles Turbo Lag and Kick Seems Lesse

Perhaps we just learn to drive the car better over time??

Re: With 1000 Miles Turbo Lag and Kick Seems Lesse

I remember quite clearly gettign about 150 miles on ODO and "punching" the accelerator for the first time.

The car started going (like my 997S) and then a second later the Turbos literally kicked me back into the seat and the car took off.

The other day, still taking it easy for break in with 1000 miles on ODO, I "punched" the throttle again and the car took off, but no noticeable turbo "lag-with-kick" this time.

I did it a couple of times trying to get them to lag and then kick in but it didn't happen.

What's going on do you think?

Should I worry or is this normal?

Just had a few drinks after dinner (in a group! not alone ) and now I'm "worried."

Re: With 1000 Miles Turbo Lag and Kick Seems Lesse

I just got TT mine, 100 miles only and I feel exactly what you are describing ... feels like my 997S for the initial 1 second and when the turbo kicks in WOW! Now, I'm wondering the same thing as to why the turbo comes on so late and maybe it's part of the initial break in programming protecting the engine and tranny?

Hummmm... . That's it! As I'm saying I think that lag/kick goes away somewhere within the first 1K miles. Keep me/us posted. I hope you're right about it being something Porsche designd into the system or, hopefully, it's just plain normal part of break-in.

Was weird because when I first got the car and experienced it I was shocked because all that talk about the lag being "gone" because of the VTG seemed like BS to me. Not that the lag/kick bothered me: It was kinda FUN!

Re: With 1000 Miles Turbo Lag and Kick Seems Lesse

Mine just turned the 2K mark and I swear there is something different. It's like the turbos have been uncorked or something.

Re: With 1000 Miles Turbo Lag and Kick Seems Lesse

I've had the same experience, after 5000 miles the turbos spool up sooner and more smoothly, the car feels more agile. The first thousand miles felt tight and jerky; I missed my 996, not any more.

Re: With 1000 Miles Turbo Lag and Kick Seems Lesse

Ive got 4500miles on mine and i agree with you guys the car feels stronger with time. I think in order to drive this car for the best runs require keeping the RPM's up in the 4500 range and learning the "sweet spot". Getting the sport chrono to "kicK" in properly is not that hard but it takes a little practice with a 6 speed. When done properly the car responds with 10 seconds (or more) of full thrust and you really feel the Turbos powerband come alive! Grab that steering wheel with 2 hands, cause your in for a treat! Drive safe!

Re: With 1000 Miles Turbo Lag and Kick Seems Lesse

Too bad for people who never reach 5,000 miles!
