997 Turbo RUF 550 HP Kit - Performancebox Results

I just returned from a vacation, so I don't have much time to post a lot of details or pictures but I can do that later on at your individual request.
Only one thing: 997 Turbo Tiptronic, 15000 km on the speedo, full fuel tank, one person in car (driver), somehow "controlled" conditions (same temperature around 16* Celsius, same track/Autobahn, several runs) and the external Performancebox GPS antenna which by the way seems to do fine even at speeds slightly over 300 kph (manufacturer guarantees 180 kph only). Why I mention the GPS antenna? Because using the internal Performancebox GPS antenna, I had two times a very short GPS signal interruption which renders the test result pretty much useless. You need a COMPLETELY clear view to the sky to all directions when using the internal antenna, otherwise the results aren't accurate. Just as a little reminder.

Here are the results of the tested car (1620 kg weight):

Power at wheels: 357 kW or 486 HP
Max. lat. accel.: 1.1 G (Michelin Cup)
    0-100 kph: 3.9 sec
    0-200 kph: 11.1 sec
    0-250 kph: 18.0 sec
    0-300 kph: 32.1 sec

Please note that I was NOT using the brake/throttle method to accelerate from standstill to avoid too much stress to the drivetrain/tranny. With a brutal brake/throttle acceleration, I think that it would be possible to shave off 0.3 to 0.5 seconds off the time I posted, especially from 0-100 kph.

Re: 997 Turbo RUF 550 HP Kit - Performancebox Resu

Fantastic results RC. These numbers are in line with the other stage II cars of Lukasluis and CGT1138. The 9 seconds lopped off the 0-300kph is especially impressive, as is the 100-200kph interval time of 7.2 sec.

Re: 997 Turbo RUF 550 HP Kit - Performancebox Resu

0-200 time is the same of 997 gt2

Re: 997 Turbo RUF 550 HP Kit - Performancebox Resu

    Christian good news!!

any idea of the price tag for only the Ecu,and if is fully compatible(for power result) with the Cargraphic exhaust?

    thanks

Re: 997 Turbo RUF 550 HP Kit - Performancebox Results

    0-300km/h: 32.1s ???!!!

    Well, I guess.... OK.

Either your car has more then 600hp or your Performancebox is not very accurate...

If the results are accurate then Porsche needs to fire all their technical stuff and hire Alois Ruf as Chief of Development... And if the results are really accurate I have only one word-RESPECT.

It's not that Porsche's R&D is lacking, rather that Porsche's marketing is genius. All these tuners have done is to remove the artificial restrictions Porsche put onto the turbo. If all the TT's came this way would anyone have bought a GT3RS for the same price or a GT2 for 60% more?

Re: 997 Turbo RUF 550 HP Kit - Performancebox Resu

I finally made some runs this morning inspired by RC. 85F temps, 90% humidity. Sea level. Relatively soft launch on a 6spd manual, GIAC programming with 100 octane fuel and AWE exhaust. BMC airfilter. You can see the 100-200kph times are in the low 7 second range. Max accel was 1.12g

Great runs eugene, your 100-200 numbers are very similar to mine at around 7.2-7.3, and also in line with the 550hp RUF.
What speed do you think our cars will reach in the standing mile?
Can't wait to find out next month at the texas mile event:!

I don't know how accurate the results with the Perfomancebox are but the only possibility of an error lies with the true speed measurement.
I try to re-check the speed measurements with a certified GPS from Magellan to compare the speed measurement results.

As far as I remember, LukasLuis had a 31.7 sec time from 0-300 kph, so my 32.1 seconds are actually worse.
Yes, this time is impressive since it is already Carrera GT performance territory.

The stock car does 0-300 kph in around 40 seconds, so it is not excluded that a 70 HP power gain actually shaves off 8 seconds from the 0-300 kph performance. Why doesn't Porsche offer this performance on the stock car? Well, I don't know how long you're into Porsche cars but I ask this question myself over and over again since 1996. The answer is easy: they want to sell powerkits, GT models, etc. and of course they always want to leave a little bit of "air" in the power range to allow more powerful models later on too.

I hate this policy but I understand it. If Porsche would offer a 700 HP monster 911 Turbo, what to come next?

The current 997 Turbo has two points where there could be damage with a power increase: the VTG chargers and the piston rods. The 550 HP are at the limit and I wouldn't want to participate in a 1000 miles endurance race with such a car but for daily usage and some track fun from time to time it should be fine.

Re: 997 Turbo RUF 550 HP Kit - Performancebox Results

Christian, is this your car or was it just a test car?

Customer owned car, to make sure they don't cheat.

Re: 997 Turbo RUF 550 HP Kit - Performancebox Resu

Is there a Ruf kit out for the manual?

Re: 997 Turbo RUF 550 HP Kit - Performancebox Resu

Did you do the Ruf conversion on your car, Christian?

Re: 997 Turbo RUF 550 HP Kit - Performancebox Resu

    Hi RC,

where did you get the performance box from? As you are from germany you may know a german dealer?

    Thanks a lot!
