Anyone know when the 2008 Facelift is coming?

What's the story? I've heard LED lights etc... but not much more info...

I need to extend my lease so I can get the new facelifted model when it comes out....

    THANKS -

Re: Anyone know when the 2008 Facelift is coming?

Will maybe come when Direct Injection and/or PDK come? Why? so they can create a big buzz and stimulate sales.

OTOH, it can come anytime (to tweek sales) since all it involves is cheap-to-make changes in bumpers and tail lights, etc. .

My guess is it will come very soon. Look at all the other car mfgrs, they do it quite often to keep sales going. Why shouldn't Porsche? Just because P has been traditionally slow and conservative to do so in the past means nothing anymore.

Re: Anyone know when the 2008 Facelift is coming?

I predict facelift models will be available in the US in the Spring of 08. It is a repeat on the 997 calendar of the 996 facelift calendar.

That has been my prediction all along and I think I will be correct.

    Dealer showed me...

08 MY slots available through to June of 08. This was on PAG ordering site. I sat and watched him key in fake orders for C2S, C2 Cab, and TT through to June.

    So you tell me.

    My thoughts exactly.

Love you all - anyone have anything other than guesses !?!?

LOL. Mee Too. Gotta drink to that. Either way we're all screwed; might as well enjoy it.

Re: Anyone know when the 2008 Facelift is coming?

If the world economy turns a bit sour, then I suspect Porsche may delay the model change. If the economy continues to grow, then I still expect one after the Panamera comes out, which is the 2009 model year. IMHO, I don't think Porsche is large enough to launch more than one model per year, at most. As far as the PDK is concerned, I would watch the endurance races to see if the technology has been proven out on racing cars. As someone pointed out in an earlier posting, most of the clutchless shifters don't perform well in local driving, and I would guess that Porsche would want to make sure it works right before offering it.

Computer ordering specs/build dates prob means little....

Why wouldn't PAG/PCNA allow those primitive P ordering computers to simply offer nominal choices for foreseeable future? Why give away timing to dealers/custs and lose/delay sales (and/or force discts/cheaper leases) of curr model for many mths in advance of inevitable leaks on various chat boards as we get closer to official disclosure?

My point was the dealers believe the current model will be on order through to June 08, so they would have no need to discount, because nothing is changing until the factory changeover in August. That June build essentially runs them through to the end of the model year anyway.

    Re: Dealer showed me...

MY 2009 FACELIFT will be introduced around spring 2008, first cars may be at US dealers around August/Sept. maybe a month earlier. Europeans may get the facelifted 997 around June/July already. Engines have direct fuel injection and are still based on the M97 engine. Power may be up to 400 HP for the new Carrera S but I don't know it his includes a possible powerkit. Right now rumours range from 380 to 400 HP for the Carrera S. I have the precise figures but I can't unveil them but don't expect a huge power upgrade. Hope this helps.

What about for the 997TT? Will they be introduced in the same timeframe? Any HP increase, since the Carrera S, if it gets 400HP, will not be that far behind the 997TT's 480 HP.

    Re: Dealer showed me...

I would expect 375-380 for the 997S and 400-405 max. w/x51. At the latter power level, the torque should be up 315-320 or so. Tempting, but as usual, PK is too pricey, imo.

    thanks RC

We've been thinking these weeks, what are we going to do with the 997, may be we sell it back to the dealer in 2-3 months time, and order the facelift when possible, now with that information, will probably do it, arrrgggghhhh depreciation !!!!

So it will be between 380bhp-400bhp WITH or without X51??, According to what you've said it'll be without ??? , that would be GREAT NEWS!!!, Similar GT3 numbers then........

I believe what he is saying is that 400 may be possible with x51.

Here is the little dilemma right now

    ok, thanks Devo

But looking to the competiros, new bmw M3 (v8, 420bhp), Audi RS4, and new AUDI RS5(which probably these two are not DIRECT COMPETITORS) seems that Porsche may be puts even more bhp than we expect...I dont know

    Re: Dealer showed me...

    Thanks for the information.
    And what about PDK, RC?
    And base Carrera? 350?

Come on RC. You're killing me. All I want to know is whether it's 400 with or without PK. Is that too much to ask?

The updated 997 GT3 with PSM is rumored to get a revised 435 HP engine. Meaning that the 997 Carrera S could get 400 HP easily without threatening the model hierarchy.
As far as I know, the 997 Turbo base model stays untouched regarding power but there are still rumours of a possible powerkit with aprox. 520 HP. It can't be excluded that this power will be standard on future 997 Turbo models but I highly doubt it. Porsche knows how to make money and nothing is for free. It would also be too close to the 530 HP 997 GT2. So right now, there is no indication of a power upgrade for the 997 Turbo standard model (non-powerkit) and judging by the information I got, I'd say that the 480 HP power figure stays the same until the 997 Turbo gets a replacement (998 Turbo?) around MY2011 or latest 2012. Of course this claim doesn't include the rumored powerkit or a possible Turbo S model.

And a final word about the availability of PDK with the facelift would also be much appreciated.

I hear you, brother. I too, am anxiously awaiting pricing on the new M3 in the states. Of course, I too, want to know how much power PAG is giving us because there's no way I'm buying another new 997S in it's current trim and with it's current BHP. With that said, I'm pretty confident that the hp won't exceed 380 without pk. It's just a matter of WHEN, PAG will do it?! As in, will we see them in April 08 or Aug.08. I am beginning to believe the latter.

    Re: Dealer showed me...

    RC, is 400 hp possible w/o x51?

    Re: Dealer showed me...

    RC,
Just a small question, according to your opinion :

I had sold my C2S one month ago, and had the opportunity to have an allocation for GT3.
But I thought about and seems that it was not a good idea because of facelifted models around 400 hp etc etc....

Now I don't want to have the right figures about C2S with DI.
Give me YOUR opinion : is it better to order the new GT3 435 PS or wait for the facelifted one ??

Also do u have an idea about availability of new GT3 ?

One more time many thanks for sustaining this forum and for your excellent information.

    Regards

    Re: Dealer showed me...

RC, you are the second person to tell me about the 435hp GT3. Any idea when it comes? Should I be putting my deposit down now???

    I would bet on 400 hp with x51. RC mentioned a small power encrease..so , Carrera S with 380 hp , X51 400hp. and that leaves room to the GT3. Otherwise , Carrera S 400hp , X51..425 hp.., no, it does not work !

I will be having realy big problems deceiding between the Carrera S X51 a Gt3 or a Turbo...

I agree. That's what I also said in my previous post, but I wanted to hear it officially.

I'm in the same boat: build another turbo -probably unlikely, or get the facelifted 997S in C4S Cab or Coupe form and have enough left over for a very nice deposit on the new M3 as my dd. I don't have the balls to get the overpriced x51, although a 400 hp n/a engine would be very nice. The 435hp GT3 is a thought, decisions, decisions...

Oh, as I'm sure that you're aware, if 400 is the cap w/x51, then a base 997S is more likely to get only 375, leaving enough desire for x51.

I have to agree with that logic somewhat and it is supported by past Porsche practice. Typical bump from Mk I to Mk II is 20hp. On the other hand, I don't think a 400hp 997S would really eat into GT3 sales because the GT3 is really a totally different car that people buy for more than just the additional power. Plus a 997S with X51 would sticker for almost as much as a GT3 (only about US$8K).

    $8k? If you mean x51; it's $16900.00

    Re: Dealer showed me...

A new 997S with X51 would have a sticker price of around $100K in the US, while a new GT3 has a sticker price of around $108K in the US.
