    Re: cayenneV6 is really bad.

In North America (US+CAN) for FY 06/07 (Aug 06-Jul 07)

    Cayenne deliveries (to final customers)
    V6: 3,731 (31.8% of total)
    S: 6,122 (52.2%)
    TT: 1,030 (8.8%)
    TT S: 856 (7.2%)
    TOTAL: 11,739 (100.0%)

We have to be careful, those numbers are made of the "OLD" + "NEW" Cayenne, but the breakdown between the various versions should stay more or less the same.

For FY 05-06, the breakdown was as follow:
    V6: 39%
    S: 45%
    TT: 11%
    TT S: 5%

    Re: cayenneV6 is really bad.

the new V6 manual has been given good comments in Euro press: in general, when mated with a manual it seems to be the best version to merge Porsche and Mass. driver engagement is an often used description with that layout.

    Re: cayenneV6 is really bad.

I hadn't been monitoring this thread for awhile. I didn't realize it had stirred up so much action.

It's time to come clean about my Cayenne. I'd never owned a Porsche in my life until it was time to start looking for a really nice car for my wife. Her buddy at work drives a Jaguar and my sister drives a Mercedes --so they are out. Her boss drives a BMW so that's out. I don't care for Japanese for historical reasons and the Cadillac and Lincoln models didn't offer much appeal.

Actually we were looking at Audis when I spotted the Cayenne (this was a Porsche-Audi dealership) and asked "what's that?". Well, we drove it around and really liked it, so we bought it. Why didn't I buy the Cayenne S or the Turbo? It's my wife's car. Acceleration is just not an issue for her. Why spend a pile of additional money for something she wouldn't appreciate?

Anyway, I liked the Cayenne so much a few months later I bought a used Boxster for myself. That was a good car too, but it wasn't long before I knew what I really wanted was a 911. I subsequently saw one that was equipped just right so I traded off the Boxster and got it.

Now, Mr Pieche, being the clever fellow he is, introduced the Cayenne specifically to broaden the company's line to help insulate its sport car line from market ups and downs. It was a master stroke. I would have never thought about buying a 911 had I not bought the Cayenne first. You may cuss the Cayenne V6, but it's a demonstrated key player in keeping the company afloat.

    Re: cayenneV6 is really bad.

That's all fine and good. You can go ahead and give Porsche's marketing department a chest bump if you like. However it still doesn't take away from the fact that it is an overpriced car for its pedestrian performance level.

Worthy of the Porsche badge? I think not.

    Re: cayenneV6 is really bad.

So if I read you right, Porsche should not be producing vehicles of any kind that do not offer very high performance. That's where the disconnect occurs. I don't even try to equate the Cayenne with the sports car lines. It's a different vehicle designed to solve a diffent problem.

Incidentally, the published 0-60 mph performance figure for the V6 Cayenne is 7.5 sec for the manual and 7.9 sec for the Tiptronic. That's not bad. It wasn't too long ago when 0-60 in 8 seconds was a big deal.

    Re: cayenneV6 is really bad.

No you still haven't read it right.

Very high performance? It would've been alright if it just had "some" performance. We can forget the "very high".

You may very well be defending this car because you bought it.
When your wife gets on a freeway ramp a bit too close to the on-coming vehicles, don't worry about acceleration... since she won't need it because we all know how everyone else is a great driver and they will be able to maneuver around her.
It's a sad statement when my own Porsche reps WHO ARE EMPLOYED by Porsche also think it is a horrible car.

    Re: cayenneV6 is really bad.

Socal - straight line speed was for american muscle cars and still is not Porsches. i thnk you need to look at the vehicle from a few more dimensions. the Cayenne brought an accuracy to steering, suspension and braking that was really not otherwise in the market save for the FX.

and by the way, one of my Porsche reps doesn't think the new PDCC is worth it either; so what, Porsche reps can be wrong as well.

    Re: cayenneV6 is really bad.

Some of you who are green to buying Porsches may be happy with the badge.

Over time if Porsche keeps up with their current scheme you will be unhappy as well. Just keep it in mind. You won't agree with me now, but you will after you've purchased a couple generations of vehicles.

When I was buying these cars in the 80s and 90s the top end vehicles were top end. Porsche was also involved in real factory racing. Those days are long gone and now it seems they cater to some who would buy a Yugo if it had a Porsche badge on it.

In any case... enjoy your car. We tried to warn you.

    Re: cayenneV6 is really bad.

This thread is hilarious. Some people really take this Porsche ownership thing far too seriously..

I feel where you're coming from, and I do not totally disagree. But the sour part is; to us enthusiasts, it looks like they use this money only to make more money, and we see that our "flagships" are often not as ground brewaking as we hoped them to be: CGT being beaten by the enzo, turbo being beaten as well, the GT3 too, or almost. We always have to defend ourselves with "yeah, but at least you can use them everyday!" I long for the days of the 993tt, when the 911 turbo beat each and every car in its league by a long stretch.
No problem with porsche making big money, but it would be nice if they spent that money the supercars we long for, and not the "just-equal-to-the-competition-so-we-can-squeeze-out-more-money-with-the-upgrades models" we've been fed the last generations.

    Re: cayenne V6 Vs S

Ok, today I had a go in a cayenne S. It was definitly better but I guess SUVs are not my thing.

I don't know why because so many people keep saying they want an SUV and nothing else. I don't. I also had an audi A6 V6 3.0 TDI, just before the cayenne S and I prefered the audi. Call me mad, but it's my opinion. You're not feeling as confident as in a sedan because you sit way too high. In addition, the cayenne is too big outside, while the interior is small. Built quality is not up to 997 or 987 standards. The leather on the dash looked cheap and of bad quality. The sat nav and air conditioning controls felt cheap too.

As perfs goes, yes they are good but the gear box was a bit too jerky. Really hard to drive it in town without shaking your passengers. Even at low speeds.

I'd be much happier with an S6 or an M5, although I haven't driven those.

I got the meteor 997C4s 6spd again today. Thank god. That was fun and saved the day.

I'll probbly get the cobalt blue 997 Turbo next week or so. Hopefully the keys will be in my hands before the end of this (best ever) summer job. I'll keep you posted.

    Exactly.

    Re: cayenne V6 Vs S

    Hey amazon-

I agree with you that the Cayenne and Cayenne S are built on the cheap however I don't think the interior that you took a shot of is leather. It looks like the plastic stuff. (hard to tell but I don't see any stitching)

I realize over in Europe, station wagons are okay but here in the states, only your aunt would be caught dead driving such a vehicle.

    Re: cayenne V6 Vs S

SUVs are more fun to drive compare to passenger cars. Station wagons drive just like passenger cars.

Porsches are generally built to similar levels of interior quality; however, in the Cayenne everything is expanded due to the size of the vehicle, so some items will start to look cheap. If you look at 911s built throughout the years, most have rather spartan interiors. In similar price range, you will find most other cars to be far more luxurious.

    Re: cayenne V6 Vs S

I personally think that some people have way too much free time:). Look - over 1300 posts on the dedicated Porsche forum and the first drive in the end of August...:)
"That is not good, that is cheap, I better take Audi diesel..., I will save 25 grand..."
I drove my Cayenne Turbo S from Milan to Ancona with the average speed of 175 km/h. Unbelievable. My 2002 347 HP ML 55 AMG feels like total crap compare to Porsche.
The Cayenne is the best SUV that was ever made. Of course - in my opinion. But I drove and had a lot of them.
Cayenne is very stable on the road at any speeds, great power and torque at any speed, great look, great interior, comfortable in every aspect, built quality is amazing, the list is endless.
I love Cayenne. And as far as it is safe, I love passing diesel cars with 100 km/h advantage:) And yes, I know, at the time I'm passing them I pay 2 euro for 10 km more, than they do. But it is a Porsche forum, not "how to get from A to B as cheap as you can" and not 1300 messages "I drove it for the first time and I like diesel better"...
"I'd be much happier with an S6 or an M5, although I haven't driven those."
Hillarious... Happy with something you never drove... Soooo much free time to print all the messages:). Put your energy and time into work, make money and buy a nice car.
I would've never posted message like that - there is no time in life for reading everything stupid on internet, but got about 30 insane work e-mails from the same kind of people today:) and just to switch the attention wanted to read something interesting here...
    Diesel:)...
    Leather on the dash...
It is not leather, my friend, it is plastic. Still better looking than in a diesel Audi. But may be vibration in the diesel Audi makes people forget about looking at the interior?:)

    Re: cayenne V6 Vs S

Yeah, I test drove many/most of the top SUVs and the Cayenne S is definitely the best for me.

I'm very pleased with mine, and as an added bonus- chicks really seem to dig them. It receives as much attention as my C4S Cab.

You don't know a thing about me so please keep such comments to yourself. First drive in the end of august? So what? I'm 25 and I'm not a rich kid who can play around with daddy's money. I'll have to work to get a porsche. But it's not because you don't own a porsche that you can't discuss cars on forums with friends.

And why be so aggressive with someone you don't even know. yes, 1300 posts but at least my 5th wasn't like yours.

Well, I never talked about money, did I?

Never said the audi was 25k cheaper. Never talked about going from A to B.

You can love the cayenne, it's your opinion, but can I have mine?

I don't have to love every porsche product because I'm on a porsche forum.

    Diesel

    Hillarious, hein?

I drove the audi A6 3.0 V6 TDI but I also drove the new RS4 (420bhp) so I can have a fairly good idea of what it'd be like to have an S6.

The RS4 is already ten times better than the cayenne S IMHO.

I also drove the touareg and A6 allroad. The allroad is a better drive than the touareg, and the normal A6 is better than the allroad. The higher you are, the worst the handling is. The worst the perfs are.

Yes, the cayenne handles better than the touareg by far, but what it gains in handling, it loses in comfort. The A6 does everything the cayenne does and is better built, has better interior materials, is more comfortable, handles at least as well or even better and the S6 or RS6 will outperform a cayenne S. The A6 V6 TDI is 4wd too.

I don't fell the love here. "...my friend" ? I don't think I even know you.

If it's plastic, than it does not belong in porsche. A 25k audi A3 had a better interior. I think you never sit in an audi to say that a cayenne has a better interior than an audi.

the engine is as smooth as a petrol one. Try it. I bet you did not. So how can you know if you have not driven one? Oh wait, what you said? "Hillarious..."

It's not because you have a cayenne that everyone has to love it.
It's not because I'm on a porsche forum that I have to love every porsche
It's not because I have a different opinion than you on SUVs in general that you have to talk to me like you do. We can exchange opinions without adding such comments. It's not pleasant for any of us.

I hope we can start over without the sarcasm. It's up to you.

    Congrats on your new car

After driving it, I'm not sure I would buy one, but as we say, to each his own. BTW, I saw the pics, I do love the color.

    Re: cayenne V6 Vs S

Thank you, amazon. You've got great spirit!

It's not the best vehicle for everyone- it does suit my needs very well when I'm not driving my C4S.

BTW, I'm like you in that I wasn't a rich kid: one of the 1st in my whole family to graduate from college... (of course, absolutely nothing wrong with being wealthy either ). It took me many years to obtain my dream car- but it was well worth the wait. Now I'm blessed to also have a vehicle I've wanted for some time. I'm sure your wait won't be nearly as long.

    Cheers!

    Re: cayenne V6 Vs S

it kills me that the Americans who bleed so hard about the demise of Porsche are the market that in fact is driving the push to more package oriented Porsches.

In even simpler terms, you are in fact the cause of the effect you criticize.

they really do not know beyond their navel south of the 49th?

    Re: cayenne V6 Vs S

    Ironic...

In Turkey Cayenne S (talking about not he fca-lifted ones) has the biggest share on the Cayenne Market.

I can say 2005 Cayenne V6 is same price as Cayenne S on 2nd hand because of tax and consumption issues.

all Cayenne S owners were complaining about CayenneS/Turbo resale values comparing to V6 ones.

But now Porsche Dogus Oto Turkey (the official main dealer) decided a new strategy(selling deparment general manager is a friend of mine and cousin). They said they will not import Cayenne S as stock they will only import it in orders. And now for facelift ones all i can say is V6 0nes (majorly) and some a few Turbos.

    That is ironic.....
