    Purchasing a used 997

Hey all. I am new to the forum and would like to buy a 2005 Carrera coupe (C2). Not withstanding all the infinite options, what price range would I be looking at?

I have gone to several sites on the web and it looks like 90% of the 911's for sale are from dealers. Then, they are asking for near new sticker prices!

Also, what are the top things I should look for when inspecting a 911? What are the things that need repair most often?

Finally, do any of you know of a car service tha can inspect the car for me, what about the local Porsche dealer?

Thanks in advance for all you help!

    Re: Purchasing a used 997

I would imagine that you could buy the car for roughly list-30%. At least for the base car. Maybe the opitons would depreciate faster. It also depends on the condition of the car of course, but all things being equal, use this as a guide.

    Re: Purchasing a used 997

A year ago exactly I purchased a 01/2005 997C2S with 30% off price new. It had 15kmiles and was in new condition.
-10% seems really optimistic from seller point of view. But that may be market specific...

Go with the 2006 it's more refined and less problems than the 2005.

Good idea. I would check on the Kelly Blue Book web site for the estimated wholesale value of a 997 C2. Then look for private party sales, and insist on getting the Porsche official inspection (for which you would pay). This will give you an idea of what needs to be fixed, if anything, and also give you leverage in negotiating a reasonable price. I bought a new one in February of 2006, but a good friend who has driven and raced Porsche's for years said that getting a good used Porsche (he bought a used 996 GT2 for racing this past year) is the best approach to getting a good value.

What is the "Porsche Official Inspection"? Do you go to a dealer for that?

Yes. You can have them perform the same test that they would conduct if they were certifying the car. I would consider it important to have the diagnostic test done to learn if there were any faults.

    Re: Purchasing a used 997

    Thanks!

    Sooo, anybody selling their 997?

i thought they were essentially the same car -- since it was new in 05 -- curious what make it "more refined" and less problemantic? thanks.

    Re: Purchasing a used 997

I bought a used 2005 997 C2 about 5 months ago. It had 7500 miles on it and was in perfect shape. Sticker on the car was 90K. I bought it for 63.5K. You can get the inspection done at Champion Porsche.

    Re: Purchasing a used 997

Wait until the restyling is officially announced and you will get your toy at a lower price. It should not be too far in time isn't it?
