Less than 10 grand? I think the 65 Mustang was maybe 3 grand well equiped, if memory serves! I bought a basic 65 Mustang convertable in 1969 for $400.

He specifically stated "Detroit's rarer late 60s/early 70s muscle cars that sold for under 10 grand back then".

    A well-equipped '65 Mustang hardly brings a million bucks... Maybe $50K if it's a hipo GT convert...

He's referring to the big dogs, the big-block Shelbys, the Boss 429's, the Hemis, the COPO Chevys and ZL1's and Ram Air IV Pontiacs..

All of those exotic racing V8 options back then cost a serious premium, PROPORTIONATELY, above the price of the cars.., and those cars ranged between $4K-10K ($10K being the all-aluminum 427 ZL1, you had to shell out an additional $6,000 for that engine option... Can you imagine ordering a car and then opting for an engine that cost 1.5-times the car?? ) Big Block Shelby convertibles and Hemi convertibles could get pricey as-well..

I wish I had the garage space to keep both. I loved my 996RS. It's only been gone a week and already I miss it.

How did you use the RS? Primarily track, daily use, both?

I used mine mostly on track. Silverstone, Donington, Spa, The Ring etc...

Contrary to popular belief it was a wonderful road car too. Not the last word in comfort of course but a sensory overload even at moderate speed. You need to see one in the metal. Something about that car - truly more than the sum of it's parts. A very hard act to follow.

Re: 997 RS: The future classic?

So true Scott, I waited for the 997RS to come out before I bought my 996RS , I wanted to be sure to buy "the right car". For me the 996RS is the more desirable of the 2. It is in the little things, no PASM , no TC and also a consideration, the desired white/red color combo. I bought my car last January and it is a keeper !!

I find it funny how the original poster asks if the 997RS will hold its value or drop like a 996RS. The 996RS is very stable and more so than the 964RS and 993RS where after production ended of these 2.

Time will tell but the 996RS will be very desirable I believe.

Also please remember that the 964RS and 993RS where at some point (close after production ended) very hard sellers and could be bought relatively cheap. I am too young to know if this was also the case with the 73 RS.

But in the end all Porsche's are desirable and this goes even more for every RS model.

Or it will lost the value like the 996 when the next RS come out?

    Any comments about that?

Other than Porsche curtailing production on the car why would it be a classic? Seriously I don't understand the reason for the question.

Its performance is not better than the 996GT3RS and barely better than the 997GT3. Its appearance is almost the same as all other Porsche's except for a large whale tail. It does have some unusal colors but they can be had on all Porsches. So why should it be a classic.

Nick, reality check: what's the last Ferrari to be considered a classic?

    Hint: NOT the 308, 328, 348, 355, 360, 430, 599, 612, etc...

    So what's your answer?

    David
