    I am such a doofus

I've had my 997 for six months now and just yesterday I discovered that there are storage compartments in the doors.

Re: I am such a doofus

I owned my 944 for over a year before I figured out that the mirrors folded. I arrived at this discovery after some original research, which primarily comprised clumsily walking into one.

Re: I am such a doofus

It's like finding a new gift in your toy isn't it?

Yikes that's pretty bad. But don't worry we're all just Human. I _must_ have done something just as doofus-ish but my brain is working hard repressing the memory.

Re: I am such a doofus

We should probably start a topic on subtle stuff on the 997 that can easily be overlooked. The door pockets have been in 911s for decades,--so I'm guessing this is your first.

A recent discovery for me,--"Repeat." On the PCM, when using navigation, it will literally repeat the last command in case you missed it. Duh,--like that's supposed to be obvious.

Re: I am such a doofus

Yeah, I'm one too...recently discovered that I didn't have the surround sound and the other adjustments activated on my Bose system. And I was wondering why it didn't sound very good. I know.. RTFM!

Re: I am such a doofus

    Old door and new door.

Now tell me where did the front-ish pocket go in the new door? can it be we are all not finding it?

Quite right. Imagine how dumb I'd feel right now if it wasn't my first 911!

Re: I am such a doofus

What I do? Take new cars' owner's manuals to nightstand at bedside. When I can't sleep I read them. Usually they keep me up even longer.

Re: I am such a doofus

I just found my ignition on the LEFT hand side of the front dash. I've been searching the right hand side of the drivers column for days, and the center drivers console (a la Saab) and was resigned to just pushing it around.

Aw Geez Just wait 'til you discover that the headlights' rotary switch turns AND ALSO pulls out!

Re: I am such a doofus

I keep putting my car in 1st but goes backwards.

That's not first, that's "Park" so there must be something wrong with your transmission.

Re: I am such a doofus

I once put oil in the windshield washer fluid resevoir.
Very interesting thing happen when I tried to clean my windshield and the squirter pushed out 10w20!

Re: I am such a doofus

    hahahaa

    That's the anti-windshield washer.

I cringe when I think how many attendants must have opened the oil filler door on the '72 cars and pumped the crankcase full of premium gas.

Ohhhhhh Yeahhhhhh! THAT'S gotta be one of the ALL TIME biggest "What Were _They_ Thinking?"

Inattentive owners, Porsche designers, gas station guys: WOW!

Re: I am such a doofus

I opened my bonnet and someone had stolen my engine. It didn't matter though, I found a spare one in my boot.

Re: I am such a doofus

This morning I managed to lock my keys in my car! I was pretty stressed about it too, because the top was down and it looked like it might start raining.

    LOL. Funny!

Hey..., wait..., I should delete this because it could prove I'm a doofus for laughing too much. Hey wait..., this thread is about being _proud_ of doofus-osity.

I like the left/right parking lights. Leave the turn signal light blinking, (either left or right) when you shut off the car and it'll activate the front and rear parking lights for the respective side.

Re: I am such a doofus

It happened to me too. After 5 months, I found out that if you barely touch the left/right side blinkers, blinkers will signal 3 times for you to make a pass.

Re: I am such a doofus

Gee, a _rear_ fog light. Now _that's_ a hazy concept for me.

Re: I am such a doofus

Sounds to me like some of us would have had a hard time figuring out the first 5 speed gearboxes Porsche offered with it's (by today's standard) unorthodox shifting pattern.

As for my doofus moment, I didn't figure out that Porsche was not using a maintenance free battery until I had had my car for close to a year. I never gave the battery much thought after coming out of years of driving BMW's which have used maintenance free batteries for years and figured Porsche with its (at the time at least) two year/20,000 mile service intervals would never install a component that didn't have a chance of going two years before it needed servicing. But then again, I should have RTFM!

Re: I am such a doofus

    ^^^
Holy sh*t. Even I didn't know about the non-maintenance free battery! That's so f*cking archic and scummy of Porsche not to use one just so you have to go to them for the propery battery every two years.

They just keep looking for ways to squeeze more pennies out of their customers. No wonder why year after year they remain as the most profitable car manufacturer in the world on a per unit sold basis.

apparently this is a carryover safety feature from european. i've been told that the turn signal/parking light is left on to show there's a parked car on the side of the road at night in narrow or dark roads.
