Tim,
I do not know if you will agree with me but, it seems that Audi S5 and new M3 are offering the best value currently. S5 is more expensive then 335i(although, not very much with the similar options, at least on my market) but, it is simply better car IMHO. New M3 s on the other hand offering same accleration as R8(keep in mind that according to some EVO guys M3 is actually faster then R8 in 0-140mph and 0-150mph!!) for 45% less money...

You are wrong here. According to my Motorpresse friend new M3(with 280km/h option) is faster in 0-250km/h then R8, almost 1s faster... So, no way that R8 driver will be able to overtake M3 driver on the autobahn(if M3 driver is doing more then 250km/h). From my personal test drive I can tell you that R8 is not very impressive above 220km/h... Remember RC story about guy in R8 that was pretty nervous because he could not get away from his Cayenne TS? This story is pretty much truth...

You are not the only one... R8 is clearly underpowered and overweight as it is. It is excellent drive but, really fast it is NOT. AFAIK even V10 version of R8 will not be any faster then normal 997 Turbo...
It seems to me that R8 is after all marketing BS just very good image booster for Audi... I personally made a little mistake and did not belive enough in Porsche but, I corrected it...

I agree, for the european market. Here in Norway, with our interesting tax system, the 335i is the best value IMO. The S5 is 35k euro more expensive than the 335i and the M3 85k euro more expensive.
(And the baseprice of a 335i is more than 100k euro

I am very sceptical about that R8 EVO wonder lap. Can you really belive that Gallardo SL is just 0.4s faster at Bedford then R8? And that 997 Turbo and GT3RS are slower there then R8? Come on!
Gallardo SL is 1.8s faster then R8 on the Hockenheim and 18s(!) faster on the Ring on same tires(Corsa's)...
Some things were either very wrong with Ferrari 599, Porsche 997 Turbo and GT3RS or EVO stuff really do not know how to drive little bit more damanding sportscars.

More likely late 2008... Problem is not the engine but, stupid S-Tronic(7speed version).
