    PSE

I am getting ready to have PSE installed by my OPC and I am interested in installing the on/off switch in the ashtray. It seems like I remember one of you posting instructions on how to do this (or it may have possibly been on renntech). Would you please repost the instructions or send me a PM. Thanks in advance!

    Re: PSE

    Thanks Carlos and jcs!

    Re: PSE

My OPC is charging me about $860 for installation. Does this sound reasonable?

It should be about a 5-6 hr. job for a sport chrono equipped 997.

Now is that 860 USD for the exhaust or the button. I was quoted $100 dollars for the button and close to $1000 for installing the exhaust.

    Re: PSE

The $860 is to install the exhaust--I already have the sport button/SC. I will probably install the ON/OFF button myself.

    Re: PSE

I had PSE installed by a dealer in Boston about 2 months ago and paid $2800 for parts and installation (no sport chrono).

    Re: PSE

Another question. Is there any value to the used mufflers that are being replaced with PSE. Should I keep them or just donate them to my OPC?

    Re: PSE

Time it should take your garage to install (100TU = 1hr)

    Re: PSE

I kept mine. Don't know if I'll ever need them again.

Mine's been sitting in a box in storage for over 2 years.

    Re: PSE

My PSE parts are arriving tomorrow via UPS from Sunset Porsche, Portland OR. I am shocked that they sell their parts so cheap (relatively speaking of course). On a high ticket item like PSE, my savings was approx. $600--diff in cost of part and sales tax savings. When I initially inquired at the parts dept. of my OPC, they quoted me a little over $2500 for the parts. After negotiating with my OPC service dept., they quoted me $2260 (which according to Sunset is suggested retail) for the parts and $850 labor. Sunset price was $1830 plus $60 shipping. My understand is that Sunset sells for cost plus 15%. I'm sure my OPC is not thrilled that I bought my parts elsewhere. Oh, well! Hope to get it installed next week.

    Congratulations. You will love it.

I had mine installed ~ a year ago at Brandywine Porsche in Pa.

    Cost: $ 1655.74 for the mufflers, tips etc.(list $2090.77)
    + $ 69.26 for the console switch ( no Chrono )

Total installed cost ( parts, tax, labor, testing etc)
was $ 2396.68 . It also included a free loaner car for two days ( they forgot to order the switch and had it express delivered next day )

    Hope this helps.

PS: If you have the 997 S , keep the original dual tips.
I was able to sell them later for $150.

    Re: PSE

jcs: thanks for the tip on keeping the tips. It appears that retail cost has gone up about $160 since you did yours. They did yours for a great price! I am looking at a little over $800 labor at my OPC--it looks like yours was about $660.

I just saw the parts on Ebay from Suncoast Porsche for $1795 plus $65 shipping--no tax outside FL. May be a better deal that your local OPC if you are interested in PSE.

    Re: PSE

PSE being installed today. On/off switch will follow in the near future.

    You'll love it.

    Re: PSE

Picked the car up yesterday from my OPC. I love the new sound. I agree with those of you who have commented that it is the way the car should sound stock. I actually thought it would have been louder though. It makes me want to open the windows and sunroof to hear it better. The chrome tips look great too, especially on the black car! It's my understanding that there is a speed range where the PSE cuts out. I didn't notice it. I also recall someone recommending a few high RPM runs to blow the system out and that it would possibly make it louder. I am currently trying to find a switch that will fit nicely in the ashtray for the on/off override switch. I definately would like to have the system on with having to engage the sport mode. Since picking up the car yesterday, I have probably already logged more time in the sports mode than I have for the last year combined. Thanks for everyone's advice/comments in this thread!
