Maybe with the next Huracan generation, Porsche will finally jump the train...bye bye R8 (which makes zero sense for Audi).

It's about time Porsche and VW realize what they are missing in terms of money and prestige.

I expect that if they will do something 960/918 like, it will be fully electric.
They have to raise the prestige of their future EVs, because that is what they will do in the future.

Super Cars with combustion engines will be in the hands of Lamborghini, not Porsche.

Here's hoping that this is the first small step to a long journey back to the top level of sporstcar racing and Le Mans.

    Re: 918

There will be a Porsche supercar (hypercar?) sharing a platform with the next generation Lamborghini Aventador but the engines are rumored to be completely different. Not sure this makes sense (from a development point of view) but I guess while Lamborghini wants to keep the V12 n/a assisted by a hybrid, Porsche will rather go the V8 Biturbo hybrid route. We'll see...

    It's been parked.

The insurance company decided to raise the insurance rate by a big chunk, thinking I will just take it up my ass and pay them. I didn't.

No joke, they want CAD$50,000 to insurance it for a year. It was $40k the year before. And I have a perfect driving record going back 20+ years so that's already with full discountSmiley

For comparison I am paying them ~$5k for the Exclusive and Panamera for a year. And the Turbo 3.6? $1800. My Honda pickup is $2800 and the Audi e-Tron is $2400.

Yikes! That's insane. Is the car insured now? Not sure what you can do other than self insure for collision and pay for liability. Rates are not going to be getting any cheaper. I know you have stated previously you have no intention of selling it . Will this change your mind?

It is what it is. We have a crown corporation that runs the insurance monopoly mail

Used to be fairly reasonable, they negotiated with me on a fleet policy that covers everything so that was nice. But with a very leftist socialist in power right now in my province they decided to cancel my fleet policy and make me pay each car one by one. AND jack up the rates at the same time. For some reason socialists always think that whenever they jack up rates, people are just going to pay them at the higher rate. Fantasy. In the real world people don't and the 'projected' revenue is way off the actual and they always wonder why. They never ever learn.

Last year I insured every car in full, the total bill was ~$85k for the year. Had I pay them in full this year my bill would have been over $100k. But with me cancelling most of the insurances their actual take from me was just under $20k.

So instead of their goal of getting an extra $20k from me, they got $65k LESS from me.

Here is the most insane part. For a new driver at 17 just getting their first car, say a used one that's worth around $3000, he/she would have been charged ~$5000 for a year's worth of insurance. The insurance changed to a new risk based scale that's attached to a person and not the car, so the new driver is considered very risky and hence the jacked up premium. And under the new scale that new driver would have taken over 40 years of claim free driving to get to full discount, 43% off.angry

    Re: 918

Ow man that's insane! Too bad man, I can imagine you get angry with that. The stupidity is that they will drive everbody who isn't as attached to his belongings into fraud. I mean; if you didn't like the car too much, it would be very convenient if it burnt to the ground and they'd have to pay you much more than your insurance cost...

That is nuts, like Margaret Thatcher once said, the problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money. You would think we would of learnt by now.

What does a socialist have to do with your insurance rates?SmileySmiley

As Nick said, insurance in Canada is run by a Crown Corporation, which is state-owned and a monopoly, so the government sets the prices and not the market and free competition, i.e.socialism 101.

Next step is raise the prices exorbitantly to the higher incomes to pay for the increased government spending of socialism, those higher incomes take their business elsewhere or run out or money, government collects less than expected and less than before, so they have to then raise prices to the lower incomes, economy sufficates, they collect even less, misery follows... Worked wonders for eastern europe, venezuela, etc..

So before they were earning 85k$ from Nick, they raised the premiums unreasonably to high paying insurees like him, and instead of earning 100k from him, he cancels most of the policies and they are now earning 20k, that is 65k less for the state's insurance pot from which lower paying insurees would benefit, that will have to end up paying more now to compensate.

    Re: 918

Carlos, insurance companies set rates which have to be approved by provincial governments. If anything the governments prevent insurance companies from raising rates too high. Socialist governments (if that is the case in British Columbia) typically force the companies reduce their proposed rate increases.

    Most societies operated that way.

No in this case it is a government owned monopoly with no competition and they set the prices and they start by raising them to the higher premium policies in the belief that they will collect more and use those profits to subsidize lower paying policies, but they end up collecting less in the end and everybody pays more eventually. Apparently BC has the highest premiums in the country now and because it is a government monopoly you cant shop around for a better quote like in a normal system, you are forced to pay it.

In most societies it is the free market competition of private insurance companies that keeps prices low and the government just watches over that there is no abuse. The other is socialism (confiscatory taxation, state owned monopolies, market intervention, etc) applied to a country's car insurance system.

Yes Nick, Carlos is right. (Think he actually googled to find out about my provincial stuff )

The government's stance is that if they allowed others to compete in our market, the rates will go UP more and the service will go DOWN. Makes you wonder if they actually went to school at all. Or have any common sense.

Wow, insurance rates in Canada are certainly very high. Smiley

I pay 3000 EUR per year for my Huracan Performante, this includes full coverage with a deductible of 1000 EUR and same full coverage protection as in Germany for basically every other country in the EU.

When I inquired about the 918 a few years ago, my quote was between 15-20k EUR per year (which had to be negotiated individually but of course I never did because the 918 was too expensive for me).

    50k CAD? Ouch. Smiley

In Germany, you can also negotiate some sort of "bulk" insurance, where you basically pay a fixed sum per year for all your cars (this is what gercollector or other car fans with many cars in their possession are doing).

I have a neighbor that has many many cars ( 918 , CGT, 958 which I see him drive waround lots lately , Sport classic , 911 R , 964 Turbo s  etc ..... )  He does not insure his cars . He only pays the minimum legal to be allowed to drive on public roads ( insurance on damage to other vehicles ) And that one is cheap . His theory is that with all the money saved form the insurance he can have a few crashes covered .  Don't know how it in Canada , but here every driver has to have the insurance that covers damage on other peoples car . So he does not have to worry about other people crashing into him, it is only about his mistakes . And he drives safely .

I am moving toward this system for UAE. the insurance here is sky high compared to France and I will limit it to 1/3 party, fire and robbery. full comprehensive does not make sense at all.

Nick, I can’t believe BC would eliminate private insurance companies from competing in the province. Was this approved by the citizens? Whatever, I would consider my recommendation in an earlier post and buy only liability and possibly comprehensive coverage. Or rent an apartment in a cheaper province and use that address.
