I'll do a Performancebox testing with external GPS antenna myself around mid of September (I'm very busy right now, not to mention short vacation to Sardinia) to verify Lukas' claims (he is NOT working for RUF, I know him) and to see if ANY tuned 550 HP kit Turbo has a similar performance. We may even be able to include a Carrera GT in this.

You could sell your findings/story to SportAuto after completion of the test. Would make a good article

The numbers quoted by LAT and Eclou constitute what is a good street "safe" setup and good compromise between straight line performance and handling .

In my opinion, for the 'Ring tests, I would think that the settings were more aggressive, the front toe and camber are very mild here, which is why the GT3 understeers when driven per factory specs, it is a safety net for the majority of users.

For dual purpose street and track cars, Olaf Manthey likes camber to be 2 minutes more (negative) in the front than rear and more toe out for better turn in. Not good for fuel consumption or everyday drivers however as it reduces the understeer "safe" effect.

The main issue with the stock suspension on the TT is that the max camber you can get in the front is about -1.0 at the stock ride height. After lowering my car with the Techart/Eibach springs (-15mm) the car could be taken to about -1.5 or so in front. Any further would have required camber adjustable control arms or camber adjustable strut hats. The GT3 has a strut hat that can be rotated 60 degrees to allow for more than -2.0 camber. Without the rotation it is impossible to achieve the "track" specs of alignment. The rear of the TT can be dialed to over -2.0 camber when lowered quite easily.

I have always run 1 more negative minute of camber in front than rear on 50:50 balance cars - M3, 944 turbo - for track, usually using -3 front and -2 rear. Running an extra 2 more negative front than rear is pretty aggressive - I imagine Manthey is doing about -4 or so in front and -2 in rear. The tires won't last very long at all!

    lukasluis,

Is it true you achieved 30.7s from 0-300?

Yes, he did. Using the Performancebox. I'm not sure about this result but I think it COULD be possible if his car was already running well before the tuning.
0-300 kph in 32-34 seconds should be more likely but also don't forget that the Tiptronic profits from the one gear less, especially in that speed range where power/torque are everything.

30.7s is impossible. The Rt12 has about 700hp and does 0-300 in 25s. The stock 997TT with 480hp does 0-300 in about 41s. A car with 550-580hp cannot be faster than 35s Simple arithmetics

exactly, and that's why it doesn't have 550hp! it has more like 580-600hp. There is no reason to assume that this car's hp is not underrated the same way the RT12 was underrated

    I agree, that's why I wrote "550-580" and not 550...

    1. I would rather know that a tuner's power ratings are conservative rather than optimistic. The bottom line is - cost/value of kit and its reliability?
    2. Even if RUF's 550hp kit achieves 0-300 in "only 32-34s, I'm sure its enormous torque will make it the "roll-on" KING.
    3. I would not recommend driving one unless you are prepared to BUY the kit. Surely, going back to a "stock" Turbo would be disappointing? (RC - have you placed your order yet? )
    4. Thanks to RC for the terrific report(s). And for agreeing with the Turbo's suspension set-up sensitivity.
    5. Thanks to Eclou, LAT and GT2ETR for the suspension set-up recommendations. My car is currently in the shop and will definitely have the alignment corrected.
    6. If you think acceleration times are difficult to define/believe, what about track times - MANY more variables to deal with. Don't put too much credence in what you read. Test what you like and make-up your own mind.

Finally, it will be interesting to see where the GT2's performance fits in. Can it really be within 2-3s of a CGT from 0-300kph?

Eclou, it is 2 minutes, not 2 degrees, which I agree would be too aggressive otherwise.

Gotcha. Thanks for the correction, makes much more sense!

Those are great times. That's right around what my Z06 does.
    100-200= 6.6

Yeah it has 22hp more than stock. Headers, ram air, filter and tune. It has huge gains at high speed though. Above 140mph it just runs away froma stock Z06. Mine gets to 180 about 11 seconds faster but it only gets to 100 about 1 second faster. It dynoed at 488 to the wheels.

Re: Performanca data 550HP RUF 997TT TIP

Did you lower it? The stock Z06 has a crummy Cd. I would guess if you lowered it 15-20mm the drag drops and that may be why you pull so far ahead of a stock Z06 with minimal power gains

22 HP more and 11 seconds ( 0 to 180 mph) faster than a STOCK!?!?

    sorry but its imposible .

The ram air produces a big horsepower gain at high speed. It is possible.
