Some new company for my TT

I just picked up an 08 Z06 to keep my new Turbo company. Before I bought my turbo I was considering keeping my C4S and getting a Z06, well... I decided to get the Turbo, but I couldn't get the Z06 off my mind, so out of curiosity I stopped by Kerbeck Corvette in Atlantic City while down there on business and walked out with a Z06 here are a couple of Pictures.

    Velocity Yellow! Good call!

    What a beauty.

You know, if you find yourself not driving the Turbo as much, I can take it off your hands for a couple months.

Re: Some new company for my TT

Great! How do you compare then?

    Power delivery

    Handling

    Steering

    Comfort (seats and suspension)

    Fun factor

    other items ?

    TIA

Re: Some new company for my TT

Sorry. Try as I might that is still one FUGLY car. It's got the same watered-down try-to-please-all, lowest common denomenator cartoon aesthetic as the rest of GM's "performance" cars.

Re: Some new company for my TT

Come now. A Firebird? That's harsh.

To each his own, I suppose. I happen to think that the Z06 looks taut and aggressive.

I'm still a P-car man, but even a 997TT would have a hard time keeping pace, unless the road is wet. It's a brilliant performance car that deserves at least respect, if not outright admiration.

Then again, you never criticized its performance, just its appearance.

Re: Some new company for my TT

Not too keen on the looks, but that sure should be a nice stablemate for the tt!
Enjoy it, and really curious for your comments on comparing the two, especially since a lot of Z06 owners have been telling us their car is better than a 911...

Re: Some new company for my TT

the performance of Z06 its stunning.
its not my kind of car but it deserves respect!

Re: Some new company for my TT

Aw sht! It didn't sink in that jpcourt bought one. I'm very very sorry for the near-ahole-oriented comment!

Also, my point was to overstate to illustrate.

But basically, GM tries to be all things to all people and their styling suffers. Like they start with a good design, use a bar of soap for the model and use that soap to wash their hands: voila the "please everybody" looks. Vette has waaay too much going on; they should get rid of about half of their vette cues from the past.

But so what? Most people love the Corvette no matter how screw-ily they keep all those confusing complex-ifying stying cues year after year.

Just to add interest to this explanation/apology: Compare to the kick-ass, in yourface, love-it or hate it Italians. I looooove this car, THE masterpiece of the "origami" idiom:

Again, I apologize for _sounding_ like an a------, when I should have been congratulating jpcourt, the new owner of a technically fine, generously-priced perf. car.

Re: Some new company for my TT

Not a fan of the corvette but the Z06 in yellow is gorgeous. My buddy tracked a Z06 last weekend and he said they are sick. Powerful and handles pretty well. If I were to get a vette, that yellow one would be it. Congrats

Re: Some new company for my TT

Congratulations! I've always admired the Z06, good pick-up!
So what's it like vs the Turbo?

Well it's a little early to give a detailed comparison I have 380 miles on the TT and 300 on the Z06, but my first impressions of these two cars are they are two totally different animals. The Turbo is much more refined and is more precise and the Z06 is much more raw, but I find the rawness is highly addictive. Both cars are equally as fun but in different ways.

As far as comfort, the Turbo just feels right to me, I have owned Porsches for a number of years so it is very comfortable to me. When I drove off in the Z06 it felt a bit weird form the driving position to the view out the rear view window, I have gotten used to it and it is actually very comfortable to drive.

The seats in the Turbo are far far superior to the Z06, but the seats in the Z06 are still ok just not on the same level as the TT.

As far as fun factor I would give each car 10 out of 10, but the are both new so I don't have much negative to say about either one, this I am sure will change somewhat in time, but maybe not. If you have any other specific questions let them fly.

Hey MMD no apology necessary everyone has their opinion. I can understand where you are coming from. I have much more passion for my Porsche than my Corvette. I could sit and stare at my Turbo for hours on end. I happen to like the way the Z06 looks, but in the end I am just a car guy, I just love cars and can't get enough of them (my wife thinks I have a problem).

Anyway congrats on your new Turbo, enjoy yourself.

Re: Some new company for my TT

The C6/Z06 is not a caricature, "common denominator," please-all design. It is unquestionably a beautiful timeless design, a worthy successor on the Corvette line. Negative comments are prejudicial in my view.

The Corvette is owned in the US by a wide swath of the society's economic strata and that is good. The fact that it's owned by the hard-working construction worker (who was able to scrape $45k to own its dream), alongside a price-no-object billionaire is a plus not a minus. At least for me, as I'm not a snob and do not measure my self-worth and position in society by the car I drive.

Re: Some new company for my TT

MMD: you posted a pic of a yellow lambo. Exotic? Yes. Beautiful? No! Ugly actually. I guess I say potatoes you say potatos.

Re: Some new company for my TT

Congrat, Z06 looks great, were you able to get a discount?

Re: Some new company for my TT

    A small one,1K off msrp.

Re: Some new company for my TT

Congrat, you now have two hot cars

Re: Some new company for my TT

    jpcourt,

I think it would be a blast to own a TT and a ZO6. But if I did I would also want a Scuderia to round out the collection. And "yes" you do have a problem...cause most will be jealous.

I wish everybody would resist putting these cars head to head. I agree that they are "different animals." I understand the performance issues and the natural tendency to compare. Nonetheless it's the differences in these cars that makes them such great stablemates.

For me it's blast to drive a muscle car( Charger SRT-8) and breaking out the wheels after driving a sure footed TT for a few days. I don't know but I'm tired of the mine is better than yours thing. Variety is the spice of life, at least as it pertains to cars. Congrats and enjoy.

Re: Some new company for my TT

I was at the corvette museum in bowling green a couple days ago. There was a yellow one with black wheels parked outside. It looked mean like that. I think yellow looks good on the Z06.

The front row is reserved for corvette parking only, kinda cool. Lots of signs and cones warning drivers of no burnouts.

You don't have a problem. You don't have a problem. You don't have a problem... Trust us, we share your passion.

Looking forward to more info from you comparing these two great cars!

    LOL. Sounds about right.

What would the Porsche Museum cones say?

Re: Some new company for my TT

    Congrats.

Aside from the performance of the Z06, I really haven't been a fan. BUT, I have to say, I just came back from test driving an '08 Z and... well, it felt wicked. I really didn't dip too far into the revs and only gave it half throttle, but holy****, it goes and it goes with aggression.

The car I drove was black with polished wheels. It looked menacing and sounded great. The interior was nothing shocking, a little low rent, as they say, but it was okay. This car had the cf console which looked very nice.

    I might even buy it!

Re: Some new company for my TT

I am in the same camp! A car guy through and through. Take a look at the latest stable mate being added to my 997tt. Talk about a different ride, but still total adrenaline. 2500 lbs. 515hp Rousch 402R. Ouch! Congrats on your Z06! Drive safely.

Re: Some new company for my TT

Very sweet ride. My friend recently took me for a ride in his newly aquired ERA Cobra. Your car looks amazing. Very hardcore; love it!

Re: Some new company for my TT

The Cobra looks great!!! The cobra is on my short list of cars I have to own....but don't tell my wife
