What happened to the weight? That's over 3300lbs. Is that with the driver?

    Re: Lamborghini Gallardo SL Supertest

What tires on GSL? Street...or dry-only/track-only tires?

Amusing that 4000lb 599 had roughly 7:47 NBR on street tires....aren't track-focused cars supposed to beat heavy luxury cruisers on NBR?

Scud's real challenge will be to materially beat the "elder statesman" 599 on NBR on street tires, not track tires....

    Re: Lamborghini Gallardo SL Supertest

599 is so good... IMHO it is THE car to own right now.

Tires on Gallardo SL were Pirelli Corsa's.
We need to explain 599 tires as well-P Zero The Hero on 599 are specially developed for 599. They are according to Sport Auto pretty much "very sporty" focused street tires that are not that good on wet road. That explains pretty poor wet handling time by 599(but, Gallardo SL and 997 Turbo suffered as well on wet handling).

    Re: Lamborghini Gallardo SL Supertest

The wear ratings on the PZero tires for the 599 are 40 and 60 (front/back). This is very low and indicates that they are very "sticky" and probably very close to the Corsa's, or Pilot Sport Cup's, which are 60 and 80 respectfully.

Scuderia's real challenge will be the F430-successor.

    Thx for clarif, Kreso

So, should we add 5-10 secs to GSL NBR time to properly compare to 599 time on PZeroHero?

BTW, have an SF colleague who almost always daily-commutes via 599 (on PZeroHero)...it's his second 599 (gets new F every 6mos)....he observed that 599 is more secure in its perf on wet, winter CA roads in daily commuting (in SF/LA, temp rarely drops below 55F) than his last-winter, alternative commuter car of '07 SL65 (on factory-spec Bridgestones).....doesn't rain in CA outside of winter, so we haven't yet been able to compare traction/braking of 599 vs CL63/65 on wet CA roads (CL63 has ContiSports; we'll find out soon if CL65 has PZeroHero; CL65 launches in CA in Oct)

Realistically, even in CA, most guys w/599 don't head up to mtn twisties when mtns are wet during periodic winter rains....but relevant useability concern is that one can safely commute to office on wet urban roads/fwys on street tires...

My sense is that 599's PZeroHero/stab ctrls/CCM offer excellent active safety, even in wet commute use....but will be interesting comparo vs CL65 this winter....

    Don't know about that, Rossi....

Scud will be obsolescent by time 430 successor launches....sort of like how many jaded F buyers quickly moved on from 360CS to 430....fast-advancing tech entails short relevant half-life for any of these cars....more like a smartphone than a bespoke suit/Patek or some other low-tech consumer good....who wants last yr's "hot", latest/greatest smartphone, flat-panel TV, etc????

Major question is whether 430 successor will offer useable mid-range tq (very relevant for commuting on fast, dense-traffic, urban CA fwys) while delivering impressive NBR times vs 599....

    Re: Lamborghini Gallardo SL Supertest

Unofficially difference between Corsa's and Hero's on Gallardo SL on long twisty track like Nordschleife is only around 1s.... New Hero's are much better then any tire on dry track and they are pretty decent on wet road as well.

Interesting enough Sport Auto wet handling champions are Porsche 997 GT3/GT3RS(Michelin Cup's N0), 997CS(Michelin Pilot Sport 2N1) and Audi RS4(Pirelli Corsa). New R8(Pirelli Corsa) was also pretty good. All were much faster on wet handling track then 599, Z06, 997 Turbo or Gallardo SL for example.

Back to your question-I expect CL63 to be faster on wet road then 599. CL63 features pretty agressive ESP setup and Conti's are much more wet road friendly then Hero's on 599... 599 is a awsome car but, it is not all weather interceptor...

Did really so many 360CS owners change their cars for a F430?

I was under the impression that this was the case with the standard-360-owner, but the Challenge Stradale is still something different, something special.

Somehow it's a pity that technology moves so fast, that even at these wonderful cars we can't speak of something - at least a little bit - Patek-like.

I'm not surprised. After all, the Exxon tankers are designed for water travel .

    I fully agree with you.
Question is what is CL63/CL65 good for? Specially after new RS6 introduction in few weeks time...

For one thing, it will be more luxurious (I myself would take an RS8 over and RS6 any day - especially since weight is the same), but I just don't find 600+ bhp and RWD very useful for our Central European winters .

I agree, the RS6 will be the best all-rounder of the bunch (and undoubtedly not much slower in the straight line than the AMG 65 series).

Kreso, I agree regarding the CL63. The CL65, however, is a different thing! Great engine in a great car. Only disadvantage (compared to new RS6) is the missing AWD

Stefan you are correct. Very few CS owners dumped their cars to get into the 430. Most kept their CS's and added a 430.

WBH, your friend who trades his Ferrari in every six months must be a Ferrari dealer owner because I know for a fact that Ferrari is monitoring purchasers and if they find the same purchaser for the same model within a short time span the dealer is penalized and losses allocation.

    Re: Lamborghini Gallardo SL Supertest

    Markus,

Well, I do not like the way CL63/65 looks. Personal taste I guess... BTW, here CL63 is very popular amoung criminals and similar characters, specially in white and black...

Hopefully, they wear "better" than do my Michelin PS2's on my (heavy) 996TSCab-GT700. Barely over 500 miles this summer and the rear tires were down to the cords.
