Need clear bra advise on 997 GT3

Can anyone share their experience with 3M or other brand clear bras?
    Any past posts?
Do you advise front only, or full front coverage, including fenders?
    Is 3M the best?
I have Llumar now on my white FX45. Slight discoloring after 3 years, but not that bad. Install was okay.
The GT3 will be Basalt Black Metallic. Thank you.

I did it and I am sorry as I did not like it on black at all. With a hint of dust it looks funny.

Re: Need clear bra advise on 997 GT3

Remember, clear bras are not about "looks" it's about protecting the paint from rock chips and dings. I can put up with a little less aesthetic appeal that 99% of anyone won't notice in exchange for not having to pay hundreds for touch up work and blending.

3M to me is still the best clear bra brand.

Re: Need clear bra advise on 997 GT3

I have had two clear bras placed. One on my 2006 C2S cab and one on my GT3. The black started to get quite dull after a year. I even did regular maintenance on it. I did the full front. Not sure of brand on either. My white GT3 I did the full frontal but it started to get slightly discolored after 7 months. However, last week, I pulled the clear off the hood and off area covering the lights. The clear bra is only on the spoiler portion of the car and you can't even tell that it's on there. I don't think you need the clear bra on the hood and that's where it's most noticeable. And again, most of the flying debri hits only the front part of the spoiler and not the hood. I suggest that you place clear bra on spoiler ONLY and on the side mirrors and door handle and it's groove. You will hardly notice it.

Thank you. I was advised that since the entire car and especially the hood is low, that at least the frontal part of the hood should be done.
Living in So CA as you do, the 405 and 5 seem to getting worse with more of those semis hauling dirt.

3M fitted to my Boxster. My last one (bra-less) looked like the front had been shotblasted within a few thousand miles, this one is still perfect 7,000 miles on. Very glad I had it done, protecting the lower half of the bonnet, the front bumper and skirt, the leading edge of the front wings the front of the door mirrors and the door sills.

Re: Need clear bra advise on 997 GT3

I did the whole front and whole hood. It looks great. Can't even tell its on the hood. The reason for the full hood is that on my Carrera, I got tons of chips above the 24 inch standard clear bra.
The last car I did 3M and it started to yellow after 6 months. This time I used ventureshield. They use a different type of glue so that it doesn't yellow and it is thinner. When they did the whole hood, the shield in clear coated- which is why it looks so nice. The key is to find a good installer.

Check out Premier over on Rennlist. They are good.

Re: Need clear bra advise on 997 GT3

I'd rather deal with a little discoloration than chips. I prefer the custom cut clear bra installation instead of the pre-cut panels that the dealers sell you. The dealer's margin on clear bra install is 50%!!!!!!!!!! I have a kid I call from a company near my house and it is about $300 bucks installed and custom cut (3M product and not el cheapo brand that yellows).

Re: Need clear bra advise on 997 GT3

I am definately glad that I had the dealer install mine before I picked the car up to prevent rock chips in the paint. However, I have found that the surface scratches very easily which really shows on the black car. I have not been able to get rid of the scratches--they are less noticable after waxing it. Overall, I would still highly recommend putting it on, especially if you have a dark color car where rock chips are more noticable.
