and to me the tail lights look somewhat Japanese like something you'd see on a Nissan, and are those two rectangular brake lights built into the bumper?

    Re: Facelift update pics

The mirrors do look bigger, but I think that's a good update - the current ones are too small.

    Re: Facelift update pics

The tail light have black tape to disguise them to look like the current one. I think they will be a nice update but one only geeks like us will notice.

As for the mirrors, I believe someone posted a while ago that the increased size is to meet Euro regulations. I like the current ones a lot and don't like when they get too big. I am sure Porsche will do the right thing so the look is not comprimised.

    Re: Facelift update pics

The Euro rules dictate (mandate) the Dumbo Ear mirrors. In time all the Americans will be retrofitting the older (current) style mirrors onto their cars. My prediction. Who would want to admit that they drive a Dumbo...

    Re: Facelift update pics

Just come off the phone from my OPC - they have been told in the last week by Porsche that there are no changes to Boxster/ Cayman range for 2008 model year

    yes,facelift is for my 09

as is direct fuel injection, etc. No point in buying an 08 car if you can afford to wait 12 months....

    Re: Facelift update pics

Excellent. I won't be in the market until early '09.

    Re: Facelift update pics

When does MY 2008 and MY 2009 production actually start?

I believe the next model year build starts after the current year August factory shutdown, i.e. 08 model year starts Sept 07 build.

    Re: Facelift update pics

But maybe MY'09 starts in Feb 08, like Cayenne

    Re: Facelift update pics

I've been waiting for my allocation in CA for months now. If the facelift is scheduled for ' 09 then why would Porsche cut the supply in the USA and also come out with a limited edition Boxster? Usually, Porsche cuts supply and comes out with a limited edition right before introducing a facelift/new model. I'd be very surprised if we don't see new models at the Frankfurt auto show! My dealer is expecting to get my '08 allocation in September for an October delivery.

I agree and many of the earlier reports were all implying MY08 for these changes. Plus, would we see as many spy pics this far in advance with on the road testing? I guess we will all find out in a few months.

    Re: Facelift update pics

I spoke to two dealerships yesterday, both of whom confirmed that the facelift is not coming for the 2008 model year. They just received laminated handouts for the salespeople outlining 2008 changes across the model line. For the Boxster, the changes seem to be very minimal:

    1. Side vents painted matt black instead of volcano gray
    2. AC off button label changed
    3. Atlas Gray becomes a special order color (~$3000)
    4. Macadamia Metallic replaces Atlas as a standard metallic color option ($690)
    5. Ruby Red Metallic replaces Lapis Blue Metallic as a special order color (~$3000)
    6. Marginal price increase (blogs say 0.5%, the dealers said they haven't received the final pricing).

Here's what I think is going to happen:

    - The facelift will be presented at the Frankfurt auto show in September, and positioned as an early 2009 model
    - 2008 will be a short production year (6 to 9 months tops)
    - The 2009 models will debut early, with production likely starting in the Spring (instead of the September as with most normal model years)

That would explain the introduction of the special edition, the rumours about the facelift coming out in 2008, and the fact that the early 08 cars will carry forward the current styling. Personally, I hate the styling shown in the facelift pics. The current car is visually perfect to me. I'm placing an order for a 2008 over the next couple of weeks, to ensure I get the current body style. I'm thrilled that the facelift isn't coming out in early '08.

    Re: Facelift update pics

The new side mirrors look awkward on the car. They seem to be scaled too big for the overall balance. Those new regulations are ruining the look and I hope they don't come on non-European models.

    Re: Facelift update pics

    more facelift pics here

I also hope the Dumbo ears aren't on the U.S. cars, but I have to admit those rounder front intakes and curvy rear lights are starting to grow on me.

    Re: Facelift update pics

    but the engine?

    here http://www.topspeed.com/cars/porsche/porsche-boxster-ar26774.html they write :
    - "The DFI technology will be used on its entry-level roadster and coupe"

    it's true? not for me

    - "increase the power on the new Boxster with 13%"
in this way the power of boxster S go over 330 hp but i think this is may be true for 988 not now

    Ciao Capra

    Re: Facelift update pics

Looks lik they are going back to the curves of the 986.
Headlights more oval and slightly peanut shaped and the rear lights even more strangely curved.
I have always disliked the interior lines and headlights of my 986 and now they are going back to a somewhat similar design.
    Not good.
Anyone know who is design boss at Porsche? (Serious Q).

    Re: Facelift update pics

The Porsche design boss is a ex Saab guy who did the previous makeovers of the 9/3 and 9/5.

The new Boxster tail lights look more Asiatic and less European. Why?

New model Porsches needed urgently. Enough of the
997/987/C7/Cayenne. At times they all look old hat,too small for the money and boring in no matter what color.

    Re: Facelift update pics

Dr. Phil, you have a good eye, those front headlights do seem to have a little of the old fried egg shape, I think the current 987 headlight design was perfect, but perhaps too 911-like for Porsche. Wish some final pics would get leaked or the Frankfurt show would hurry up and get here!

    Re: Facelift update pics

Cool! I've just seen on germany configurator that cf gt2 bucket seats will be soon available (11/2007)

    New Transmission ??

my best bet for all Porsches : a robotised transmission !!!

    Re: Facelift update pics

I hope this is not a repost but these are better clearer pics of the front bumper facelift.

    Re: Facelift update pics

    Thanks for the new pics.

The front is growing on me. Not sure about the tail light shape.

    Re: Facelift update pics

Interesting pics, the front looks good!
