1st Service on Thursday, any tips?

I'm taking the 997s in for it's first service on Thursady and was wondering if there are any tips.

I've bought 10 Ltrs of Mobil 1 0W40 and looking at the service requirements it looks pretty basic insofar as work to be carried out etc. Pounds404 (less oil cost) for the first service seems harsh, particularly when the only changes are the oil, oil filter, particle filter, "air for the tyres", lol and may even get some screen clean....

Tell them your P has no exterior damage , and thats the way you want it back ..

Get them to tell the mechanic to cover all surrounding bodywork..

Check your P thoroughly before driving off..

This is where all the silly stuff happens , you get home and spot a ding , after you have knocked yu tank out for 12 months looking after it , its most irritating..

    Good luck , Res....

Ah, good point Throt. I'm trying to get a Turbo as a loaner but it doesn't look good...lol

Excellent advice by Trot. Also, you will want to make sure they sign/stamp your service booklet.

Re: 1st Service on Thursday, any tips?

Same as everything. Godamn though, service is $800 USD!

    - check body thoroughly before and after.
    - get the service stamp
    - anything - anything niggly or an issue, report it. Now's the time to get it put on the record!
    - ask if there are any TSB or computer updates. Have them give you a copy of the TSB and if there's an update, flash the computer.

    That's about it.

If it's a Porsche, check the car's body.

If it's a Ferrari, check your own.

The service might have cost you an arm and a leg.

If you pay cash, bring a large suitcase

Well I dropped the P at the dealers this morning, long trek for a service, and went through all the issues and did a fully body and panel inspection so there should be no issues if something does go wrong. I just hope it doesn't come back with even more rattles after trying to fix two that are annoying the hell out of me.

Re: 1st Service on Thursday, any tips?

Does anyone know how long the service actually takes once they start? I wonder if the service manager, if asked, would have let you hang around in the work area and observe the process up close, especially given your (and my) concern for freshly dented body panels? Sorry I didn't think of this sooner.

My current dealer (NH) won't let me in the garage area, but my previous dealer (Boston) did. If I can, I think I'll go to them for service.

Depends on if you want the "happy ending" or not.

Seriously, most service managers will not give you a time other than "we'll call you at the end of the day" b/c who knows how many cars they'll have or what'll happen during the process.

Also, no, most service managers WILL NOT let you watch the work happening inside the bay for a litany of personal injury and liability reasons.

Re: 1st Service on Thursday, any tips?

Well I got it back, no dints, scrapes, damage etc. Looks as though they managed to sort a few issues out which is nice for a change.

On the way to the OPC I saw my very first GT3 in White actually being driven, what a lovely piece of work it was as well. MKII here I come....hopefully.
