TT ALERT! Allocations For Turbos are Limited?!

I "heard" there are very few allocations for 2008 Turbos. BIG dealers are getting fewer than ten allocations of each model for the entirety of 2008.

Most of them are for Cabs, smaller numbers are for Coupes.

I (we all) would like to know if you guys have checked around and can comfirm this.

IOW, if you are thinking of nailing down a build slot you better do it fast and..., sadly..., possibly expect the car in 2009.

Re: TT ALERT! Allocations For Turbos are Limited?!

    Hype. Pure hype.

Sure, there will be cabs rolling out, so some numbers of coupes may drop slightly, but trust me, if Porsche wants your money, and you want them to have it, you'll get your '08 TT.

Re: TT ALERT! Allocations For Turbos are Limited?!

I have been told this as well, from my dealer and from Stuttgart

hehehe, the most profitable car Porsche builds will have a limited production? This is as believeable as Porsche buying Ferrari.

Porsche is creating demand. As I have stated before, the TT is not getting the sterling reviews the 996TT was getting. So Porsche wants to light a fire under its customer base to rush and order their cars.

The only other explanation is that Porsche finally realized that exclusivity has particular importance in the $150,000 car market. However, to swallow that argument means to forego profits. Do you believe WW/ his dealer network would accept this?

True they can do whatever the want to manipulate and stimulate buyers to buy certain products.

If I were shopping for a 2008 Turbo right now I would be anxious that The Wait will be long.

Do you think guys on waiting lists for build slots will all of a sudden be given a whole bunch of build slots because Porsche "just happened" to make them available? Is that how it works?

Or maybe all the uncertainty makes people clamor more and hence desireabilty goes up?

If cr*p like this is being played It really shows how much total disrespect manufacturers have for their buyers.

I remember the POS Ponnyak Solstice being "limited" production at the beginning. I was just laughing hysterically and feeling sorry for how those goofy Solstice enthusiasts were being PLAYED!

Same thing for Turbo do you think?

Freekin stinks how consumer is played. So little regard for people. Yet another teeny decline in human dignity.

No it's real, been in the works for awhile, the weak dollar sealed it's fate.

I'm not so sure this is true acccording to Excellence and some other turbo reviews which detail why the 997TT has far exceeded the 996TT.

Re: TT ALERT! Allocations For Turbos are Limited?!

I have been told that by my dealer 2 months ago. They already received their entire MY2008 allocation and received 10 cars total.

Even with Porsche's very successful currency hedging that has made them lots of money, there comes a point where the
cost of goods and US sales/inventory cant get too far off the tracks.

..and with some reviews of the 997TT, maybe they are doing us all a favor

Re: TT ALERT! Allocations For Turbos are Limited?!

Plus they can make more $$ in other markets compared to the weak US dollar.

Actually that honour goes to the soon to be released GT2

What you say makes sense but my car ordered in February is still months away despite the Aussie $ skyrocketing against the US$ this year. I suspect Porsche cranks out as many TT's as their existing capacity allows. The long waiting lists enable super accurate production forecasting and planning. Not too many manufacturers have it so good!

Re: TT ALERT! Allocations For Turbos are Limited?!

First off, I think the US does has some surplus slots available currently as I think their dealers have somewhat overstocked from what I have heard people say. So the availability may not be as severe there as it is here in the UK at least. This may be hearsay though.

As for the rest of the world, there does seem to be a large backlog. However, I don't think Porsche are doing this deliberately, in fact, I think Porsche are producing Turbo's as fast as they currently can!

There has been such a huge waiting list for TT Cabs that if you put down a deposit on one now you will be waiting well over a year (at least in the UK). The x3 (approx) less TT Coupes is simply due to Porsche concentrating on getting the back order of Cabs out of the way.

I put my Coupe deposit down in May 2007 and my official build slot isn't until April 2008. I am pushing to get this moved up to Christmas though otherwise the purchase will fall through.

So if you are after a MY08 Coupe or Cab, unless you put your deposit down a year or so ago, then you may indeed be in for a looooooooooooooooooooooong wait.

Re: TT ALERT! Allocations For Turbos are Limited?!

...saying all that, I do know though that Porsche are actively trying to keep residuals up by balacing supply and demand for new cars.

Many owners have apparently been voicing concern not to oversupply the market and they are taking note.

If that actually happens here in the US, it will truly be a blessing!

I have difficulty buying that argument. The US market accounts for almost 50% of Porsche sales. To ignore it would be disastrous to the dealers and undercut all the work the marketing department has done in building up demand. Something else is going on and you can bet it is not in the interest of Porsche buyers.

BTW shoudn't the same rational apply to all the other Porsche models? Yet I do not hear of any restrictions on their production.

Re: TT ALERT! Allocations For Turbos are Limited?!

P has a long history of "changing its mind" re: produc vols....and surprising typically clueless dealers....

Also need to know what % of 997TT are leased in US mkt...and what P Credit wants to do in terms of managing vols vs profitability...balancing near-term sales vs poss future costs to P if leases are based on heavily subsidized resids....

US waitlists are fairly meaningless....refundable deposits on a discretionary car are obviously ephemeral ...and often depend upon "free money" many one-off buyers gain via rising real estate values or stk mkt values....as well as what other new car is deemed cooler at the moment....or on what the wife signs off....

Major P dealers always have a slush fund of early build spots for repeat buyers (if dealer actually has a base of repeat custs )....it's the less predictable, one-off buyers (who constitute most of the mkt for discretionary cars) that are difficult to calibrate in terms of actual demand vs prod vols and offered lease terms....

I agree. The weak dollar has been offset by the recently announced price increases.

Re: TT ALERT! Allocations For Turbos are Limited?!

The limited availablility has more to do with building Cabriolet versions than anything. The mix is about a 60/40 split cab to coupe ratio - so the coupes will be harder to come by and therefore we are seeing less production numbers. Remember Stuttgart only has so much production capacity for all 911 variants, and cab versions of all models are more profitable so therefore it stands to reason - there will be less turbo coupes in 2008 than there were in 2007.

Re: TT ALERT! Allocations For Turbos are Limited?!

May I prevail upon you guys to ask:

In terms of this thread, what's the past history of Turbo production?

Re: TT ALERT! Allocations For Turbos are Limited?!

They're just trying to show there is no more allocation so the people that were hesitant will go ahead and put the money down.

As far as I know there is no limitation for any Porsche they'll make them as long as there is a demand.

WOW. They're putting "the squeeze" on us!

I thought that was only done on TV shopping channels!

Re: TT ALERT! Allocations For Turbos are Limited?!

newberry alert - as much as you hate to believe it the tt supply is in fact shrinking at least out this way...and porsche has lots of other stuff on the way in the new product pipeline...shame if the tt believers didnt loose as much at resale as we all planned upon ...as a group drivers as opposed to " investors " ala the f430...and if this is anyones idea of an investment ???? what were you thinking

Re: TT ALERT! Allocations For Turbos are Limited?!

US is Porsche's biggest market, but it traditionally always have been oversupply while the rest of the world has been undersupply, witness the discount that can be had in US dealers. Granted it's a generalized version, there will be places in the US where the supply is tight but over all Porsche are sending too many cars to the US.

It make sense for Porsche to send less cars to the US and more cars to the rest of the world where the extra supply is garanteed to be sold instead of parking on the dealers' lot.

Nick is not telling the truth here. I think he enjoys looking at it from a lawyers point of view. Depends on what the definition of "sterling reviews" is. LoL!

Was looking through some articles written about the Turbo, here's another one that isn't "sterling".

Be careful what you say, Nick.

Remember that, through its purchase of 30% of VW, Porsche has already bought into Audi / Lamborghini, Bugatti and Bentley.

Who knows, Fiat, Alfa, Lancia, Maserati and FERRARI could be next!
