Re: McLaren on a winning streak

Not sure why engine dyno matter at all. In the end only the whole package matters, they should only measure the hp at the wheels because that should translate onto real life performance.

Re: McLaren on a winning streak

The reason to use engine output is because it's not effected by things that could change in the drivetrain. A Huracan can send 100% of the power to the rear wheels IIRC, thus it should produce more rwhp in that mode than awhp. If there are transmission choices, like manual vs PDK, that probably also effects whp. There are a lot of things that can zap power from the engine and they will not necessarily be consistent all the time.

From watching dozends of Youtube Videos I think the 720s is the fastest car you can buy out there. Also - the Performante might be faster on the track, the 720s pushes apparently much stronger on the higher speeds. No doubt - I think this is the most adorable car right now. Just look how the chassis is build around the front seats. Check those windows and roof-windows. The entire car is build in the most optimal way. The Performante is still a car build on top of a common car platform. Total different story. So I think - even if you don't own it RC - it is the best car you can buy right now.

    Performante is the T-800, 720S is a T-1000.

More arguments to my point that engine dyno hp is irrelevant. All that matters is the result.

Re: McLaren on a winning streak

In the first Terminator movie, Arnold Schwarzenegger was a T-101.

In the second one, the HUD display of the Terminator showed CSM-101 T-800 Version 2.4 but apparently it was still the same model, so someone messed up with the denominations and they continued to do that.

On the DVD Terminator 2, James Cameron makes the following commentary: "...the model 101s all look like Arnold Schwarzenegger with a 102 looking like someone else...".

    Not that it really matters...

Re: McLaren on a winning streak

A bit of a confusion here.

In a future war Skynet produces a Series of killer machines against humans, which are categorized in different series according to their function. One of these series is the T-Series, aka as the Terminators. All Terminators from one series are identical, the T-800 for instance uses a metal hyperalloy endoskeleton, whereas the T-1000 uses some kind of liquid metal, which is called mimetic polyalloy. The Terminators are classified according to the neural-net processor in use. The T-800 uses a CPU from the 800 series and was Skynet's first Terminator covered with living tissue. By covering the metal endoskeleton with living tissue, Skynet was able to infiltrate the Resistance. The mould Skynet uses for the living tissue is defined by the Model designation. So CSM-101 (Cyberdyne Systems Model) is the designation for the mould that covers the the endoskeleton of the T-800 Terminator and which looks like Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Gentlemen, can we please get back on topic, which is of course the R8 (and, starting Wednesday, apparently the C63 and GLC63)? indecision

    Actually I love the diversions...

Re: McLaren on a winning streak

In a recent Caranddriver.com comparison test, the GLC43 won against the new SQ5 and the Macan S.

    AP911:

In a recent Caranddriver.com comparison test, the GLC43 won against the new SQ5 and the Macan S.

The GLC 43 is cheap (not talking about the MSRP but the discounts/lease offers you can get in Germany), it has a nice build quality and the chassis/steering are very close to the Macan, pretty sporty in my opinion. Only downside is the gearbox which is, if you love shifting manually, annoying as hell (auto mode is OK but kind of hunts for gears in the sportiest mode). Break system is very good and overall, it is a very nice car. The engine is of course a biturbo V6, which you can like or hate. I decided to hate it and went for the 4.0 l Biturbo V8 instead (GLC 63 S AMG).

If some wonders why I get a GLC 63 S AMG instead of a Cayenne Turbo: The Cayenne Turbo is 1100 EUR more per month (lease cost for 36 months, zero down payment) and I already got 10% discount on this car. Even a Cayenne S would be much more expensive (500 EUR) than the GLC 63 S AMG.

A well optioned Macan Turbo Performance would be 500 EUR more per month and it has 450 hp only. Just as a reminder: The GLC 63 S AMG has a BIturbo V8 engine (same as in the AMG GT S) and does 0-100 kph in 3.8 seconds (could be the fastest SUV right now...).

Maybe time for McLaren to build a small SUV... Smiley (here you go...I found a way to put McLaren into this post Smiley).

Re: McLaren on a winning streak

    From McLarenLife:

Got my new copy of EVO magazine today and they have a large spread on the 720's. I won't go into the details of the article but will just look at the point raised above.

In very similar conditions on the same tires at the Anglesey track, the 720s posted 1:11.5 with a record top speed of 143mph vs the P1 at 1:12.6. For comparison, a 488 did a 1:12.8.

Now I suspect on a track where aero comes into play more the P1 would have the 720s. But whatever way you cut it its a remarkable achievement for the 720s which will be produced at a rate of 1400 per year so its no limited production special. Progress is a remarkable thing

Re: McLaren on a winning streak

Pretty crazy. Hypercar performance and looks for a fraction of the price and totally usable daily.

Can only imagine how quick P15 will be.

Re: McLaren on a winning streak

Saw my first 720S in the wild yesterday, a dark blue example. While I still think it's not a beauty, it does work better IRL. The rear is cool, with the louvres and offering a view on the gearbox, the front needs some getting used to but all in all I say it's prettier than a 488 GTB. Looks tiny in proportions.

Re: McLaren on a winning streak

Mine arrived today. I have written about driving impressions earlier in this thread after a test drive. It remains in my view  "the Turbo S of the exotics". I think its currently the leader in the mid-engined day- to- day supercar segment. Phenomenal performance when required, very useable in the city, and market leading cabin layout/ ergonomics. Here are some quick shots (excuse the fact that the front lift was still on in the driveway shots Smiley). The light was fading when I took these so the full glory of the Volcano Yellow paint is not evident. The" eye socket" lights are no way near as overwhelming in person as they are in photos.

Great spec, congratulations!!!  Any chance you can do a group shot of your amazing collection?  Yours has to be one of the most well curated stables that I am aware of.

Thanks - kind of you to say so. Group shot unlikely, but I do post sub sections from time to time! There are a couple of more arrivals over the next few weeks, so maybe a shot of them at some point. with the 720S once they have all been detailed etc Smiley

Re: McLaren on a winning streak

Completely understand, must be a hassle to have to manage so many exotics, who has the time? smiley

Kidding of course, just wanted to say congrats and thanks for sharing pics of your new beauty!  Looking forward to the new additions coming soon.

So is this a custom spec or still LE? Haven't seen those wheels before either.

    Strange, I have.

I had spec-ed mine on those until I gave up on my allocation.

Haha yeah don't remind me of the Speciale Smiley

But my priorities have changed, after the 918, nothing else that go super fast attracts my attention anymore. If I want a fast street car. I will just take out the 918. Plus I already have a GT2RS coming, which a 720S will have no hope of catching on track.

But even then my ClubSport is faster still on track, and I have my eyes set on a Cup car, even faster.
