    Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 GT3

Now I know why my car was delayed. It's at the dealer now. I went to look at it and found a sheet indicating that at PDI they found front undercarriage damage. The SA was not around and I am trying to find out extent and whether it was fixed at PDI. I could not see any damage.

Also, GT3 wheels only come in satin. They are dull looking. Glossy wheels are not an option. I wonder what it would cost to paint over the satin wheels. I saw several Porsche's with glossy black wheels and they looked great.

    ohhhh Nick,

Let's hear the full report.  Hoping maybe they didn't put the lifts up and just scraped the lip and replaced it.

I am surprised pedestrians actually accept this kind of show-off???

Last weekend, I had a nice drive with a buddy of mine, he drives an Aventador SV. We were at a stop light, my buddy in front of me and he turned left...slowly (according to my speedo at 23 kph)...not accelerating much (his exhaust is loud though, never asked if he did something but I rather think not...he hates aftermarket parts). One older guy on the left side, standing at the stop light (waiting to cross the street), started yelling loudly (I have my window open most of the time, so I heard it) and then running(!) on the boardwalk alongside my friend while he was turning into that road. Crazy.

I stopped in the middle of the road, it was a small road and quiet, no traffic (my buddy was already around 100 meters ahead of me) and asked that old guy what happened? He yelled at me "Ihr mit euren Scheiss Sportwagen macht so einen Krawall, ihr solltet euch schämen..." (you guys with your shitty sportscars make such a loud noise, you should be ashamed of yourselves...".

Didn't even bother to argue with that guy, you never know if he throws a stone or whatever.

I swear, neither my buddy nor me were driving fast or accelerating fast or playing with our throttle, it was a simple SLOW take-off from a stop light and and a turn to the left into a different street. Smiley Revs weren't over 3000, actually probably under 2500, so... I heard my buddy's exhaust sound from my car but it was really not loud (when he fully accelerates, it is infernal... Smiley).

So just imagine what would have happened if this guy would have been in London...he may have run over to the cars and hit them. Smiley

In my opinion, people not only react to the noise but also to the aggressive and/or exotic looks of some cars. That mixed with annoyance and envy and you have a perfect mix for disaster.

I talked to my buddy while having lunch at the local golf club (I don't play but the restaurant there has a nice terrace) and he didn't even realize what that older guy did. He actually wanted to accelerate faster but got a phone call at the stop light and he was talking on the phone. Smiley Lucky him (and me) I guess. Smiley

We discussed this before: People have become very sensitive to noise and sportscars. We also have a new law in Germany where you can actually go to prison up to 10(!) years if you street race other cars. At the same time, you get a lifetime ban for driving. This law has been the result of some idiots in their powerful hatchbacks and AMGs/M3s/etc. racing on public roads and causing serious accidents. Unfortunately the police now has the liberty to "assess" situations accordingly, so if they see me fully accelerating from a stop light with another car next to me, this could be considered street racing. Of course it would require them to prove it and it is not very likely it would have any serious consequences in the end but...and here comes the catch: Immediately after the incident and during the "investigation", the car can be confiscated(!). Meaning: In a worst case scenario, you stay without your car for a few months until this case gets dealt with in court. Not so much fun!

I am very careful now how I drive, especially where there is more traffic because police can basically do what they want now without fearing any legal consequences. They can basically confiscate my car for fully accelerating from a stop light and then apologize later. Smiley If you get my point...

So if you are driving in Germany, be careful. The police here now has the perfect tool to "assess" your driving, claim it was street racing and confiscate your car. It doesn't matter if they are right or not because your car will be with them for a while until a final decision has been made. Pretty tough.

I received a call from the dealer and was told they had it up on a lift and found a small rubber piece had a scratch on it. They will order a replacement part and will proceed with delivery either today or tomorrow.

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 GT3

So my car is now locked at V215.  The PTS and CXX options evidently were all approved and it would seem I am on schedule to build end of 1/18.  So far the process has been very smooth and glitch free.  Guess that can always change. Congrats on your delivery Nick.

Hang in there @nberry. If its any consolation , I've been waiting two years for my TDF. Its finally in the UK but one or two issues mean its still not quite ready for handover. The wait will be well worth it for both of us!

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 GT3

So I was at the dealer yesterday to pick up my 918 after it's 3rd annual service.

Their 1st GT3 is on the hoist for PDI.

Took a couple pictures of the new stuff Porsche put on the car that they didn't mentioned ANYWHERE.

    IMG_6073.JPG

This is the front tire carrier. Completely new part, it's full spherical balljoint, from the 918, first of the Motorsport car to have it.

    IMG_6075.JPG

This one is harder to see, but they put in a new NACA duct on the bottom and direct extra air flow to the drive shaft joint on the gearbox. First of it's kind also, this duct never appeared on any car before.

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 GT3

Pick it up this afternoon. I believe its the first to be delivered in San Diego. Love the color especially the GR trim on the wheels. The black trim around the car highlight the GR.  It makes a huge difference for curb appeal. The car looks more aggressive/ masculine than the .1. A race car appearance..

The interior is about the same as the .1 except I got the LWB and I they are perfect. Very comfortable and hold you snug in place. I don't know if they are any different than the the .1 or RS but after driving home I was kicking myself for not getting the seats on the .1. Now getting out is another story.indecision I full leather dash with GR stitching is gorgeous. Really enhances the interior.kiss

The car sounds much louder than the .1. Has a growl to it at idle and while standing still hitting the throttle will raise the hair on the back of your neck.smiley

Driving it the first thing you notice is how more refined the ride is than the .1. It's very comfortable and smooth. The car can easily serve as a DD.  However, you will have to put up with the stares, thumb up and waves. While driving home one idiot kept tailgating me. So after a while as he got close I pulled both handles and let him hear a race car scream. He back off.

This car has to be driven in manual mode for a more excited drive. The PDK is fast but driving around town doesn't give it an opportunity to show what it condo. However, put it in manual and the car really wakes up. I decided not to go above 4000RPM for now.. The one road area where I could test for handling qualities was packed with traffic so I can't compare the handling with the .1. One thing is clear. It has a lot more low end torque than the .1. So much so I had the feeling of a jockey trying hold back my horse who wanted to run. it will get its chance in due time.smiley

I'll report once I get a chance to exercise it. I couldn't straighten the first picture. sorryIMG_0723.JPGIMG_0699.JPGIMG_0823.JPGIMG_0708.JPG
