997/998 enhancement requests

Sweet list.... please add the list with lighter 911, wider body and shorter "overhangs" (front and rear).

I'm looking forward to the first mule-pics of the upcoming 998 (or 991?)... the next 911-Generation!

me thinks that while you are making dream lists, why not equally waste your time by making a list of improvements of women and sending the list to God (the latter would probably grant your wishes before the sooner).

The speculation is that Porsche market research types ACTUALLY lurk on these board and ARE reading what we are saying.

As for the "God" thing? LOL. Good luck with that.

If Porsche can take out around 200kg's that would make an enormous difference to the performance.

I would like to add one - better road feel for the standard (PASM) suspension. The road feel is OK - no slackness, but a more go-karty suspension setting option so you can feel what the tyres are actually doing on the road would be very very welcome.

The other thing we need for the Coupe anyway, is rear seats that don't kill the backs of your kids/grandads etc when they sit in them - Porsche seem to have removed the lumbar area of the seat which is the most important bit.

Otherwise I'd like better fuel economy, electronics that have a better reaction time (particularly the nav system and rear parking sensor) that and a better clutch feel for handbrake starting and reversing.

I think the self adjusting mechanism is a still bit buggy and if you are reversing up a hill on the clutch you can suddenly lose the clutch!

Otherwise it's a great car

Yeah, that reminds me. While they're at it Porsche should make a super-mushy PASM setting for extra cr*ppy roads.

The infrastructure in the USA is deteriorating generally and back roads aren't getting any smoother.

If there's enough travel in the suspension the car would make ALOT more sense if a major cushy setting were developed. Especially if they keep insisting on equipping the cars with the rock-hard 19s.

How about a 'clear bra' being standard equipment on every Porsche --even the Cayennes? It's a heavy clear plastic film that is applied to the front end and lower portion of the hood. It's already applied on the leading edge of the rear wheel wells to protect against gravel damage. Why not protect the other parts of the car that are subject to the same sort of damage?

As it stands now, a clear bra has to be applied at the dealer for $850. Or, a private contractor can do it for around $350. Hmmm, guess I just answered my own question why it's not standard equipment.

Lighter, more power, more road feel ... those are all givens. But, here's my addition, does anyone else feel that "volcano grey" is perhaps the ugliest plastic trim color on earth? I'd drop big $$ on my next order if I could get the volcano grey pieces in the interior to be either leather or some other more attractive finish. This is possible now with the seatbacks, but not on the center stack trim.

Gotta say that Volcano Grey is kinda nice, IMO.

"Plastic" no longer means cheap-looking to me. They've done some incredible things with it and can make it look verrrry nice when they spec it that way.

Anyway here's black leather option ($2300) mentioned above. Looks slightly crappy _ONLY_ because of harsh lighting of flash on camera. In real life it looks great.

MMD that looks sweet! Is that an option available from Porsche? I'd say that's worth $2,300 no problem.

Yes about 1000 pounds here for alu or leather PCM. Quite a lot considering how much the actual materials would cost!!

I sat in a brand new Turbo the other day with leather PCM and I must say I didn't like how the leather edges were exposed around each button. Too messy for my tastes.

Options

Would be nice if the tiptronic box was more like the Cayenne and had a sequential shift option on the lever. The buttons on the wheel are fiddly and take out the element of driver interaction.
I'm sure they could find a better storage compatment for the windstop in the cabriolet, rather than taking up precious luggage space.
The rear seats fold down but the space behind isn't used for anything. I'm sure it could be used to store the wind stop ?
I pod / USB connectivity really should be standard on all the audio systems nowdays
The targa roof loses too much rearward visibility when lowered, could the sun blind be redesigned to a better location so you dont lose half the rear screen aperture?
No cost option for black faced dials on the S rather than the white items which look a little cheap. Maybe add the model inscription to the dial face and make them all black with red or yellow needles?
Roof transport systems for the cabriolet would make it a better proposition as a long distance tourer and a tonneau cover for the boxster perhaps ?
DVD integration for tv/ movies as seen in the cayenne would also be an advantage , you can get it in a BMW Z4 so why not a 911?
Perhaps a cheaper clubsport version with no frills just a ligher weight for the "weekend/ track driver" - delete PASM / PSM , leather , A/C , and rear seats. Some lightweight panels and optional roll cage with a nice bodykit .

Use the same engine and gearbox throughout the range, regardless of wether or not is a Carrera or a GT3 or Turbo etc! Make them with different displacements or state of tune but give us the same engine as our GT3, GT2 and Turbo variant counterparts, not a cheap, imitation version. We should get the same gearbox too with the ratios chosen to match the power and character of the respective engines but, nevertheless, the same gearbox!
