    Single Exhaust Tips With Body Color Trim Insert

    Hey Guys,

    Here's a barely passable photoshopped view of something I think would be an improvement.

    Body colored trim inserts are fabricated, installed and single tips are bolted to existing tail pipe.

    To me it looks as good as it can (Looks like classic Porsche) without removing, filling, and respraying bumper. Hummmmmm..., _THAT_ might not such be a bad idea afterall!!

    Whaddya think?

    That first image is sort of what the GT2 looks like minus the vents.

    Yeah Nothing wrong with that. Simple functional (impressive) plumbing sticking thru to do it's job; niiice.

    Seems like the TT stylists were trying to disguise the stock exhaust by making it fit into the "venty and slatty" theme.

    Thats a RUF RGT not a GT2.

    The real GT2 has a better looking rear bumper.......

    Anyway, MMD the single pipe look doesn't really fit the original opening, the dual tips looks better.

    Yeah, I agree... , doesn't look _great_. Dammit.

    It's just that I'm not thrilled with the over-embellished aperture, looks kinda "fabulous." Looks like the only way to do it is remove bumper, add fiberglass (or plastic or whatever) and put a round hole there while eliminating the slanty pointy edges... .

    Meanwhile nothing looks as ridiculous as the new M3's fabulous apertures:

    The filler would need to be heat resistant, and the closeness of the filler to the pipe would need some gap, like the RUF tail shown. But it can be done. Maybe even carbon would be best....but who knows.

    From this angle, I am already thinking about ordering the rear bumper and the exhaust. It certainly looks fantastic and the simple 2 round exhaust reminds me of the CGT.

    I don't know what forces act on the trim (probably none), but be aware that especially some older resins used for CFRP are absolutely non-heat resistant, they loose almost all their strength above 100 degrees centigrade.

    I'm less hung up over purely round vs. oval, but I do find the phake dual exhaust on the 997S to be silly. One pipe should end in one hole.

    BUT for me it's where the machinery meets the body so there's no use in trying to make it look pretty.

    Something like that.

    Gotta admit though from what you guys are saying I'm starting to see stock 997 Turbo tips a little more positively; thanks for the stimulation.

    I disagree about 2000%.

    If you can ignore the photoshopping and just see a nice clean rear bumper with two holes in it and pipes sticking out it would look a hundred times better than what they've come out with as stock.

    WHAT were they thinking?

    They'd have to change the shape of the bumper exit to work, single looks ricey and dual fills it better, jmo of course!

    I'm just leary of the BMW-ish "flare" these cars are getting.

    I _DO_ see what they are trying to do though: get the exhaust apertures to match the rest of the car.

    They're also leaving room for the dual exhaust of PSE in the future as an option or with the Turbo S.

    Yeah, it's just a bunch of opinions we have... . Geez! I hope we're NOT debating on the level of Jennifer Aniston's haircut.

    Yeah, we're kinda stuck with Porsche's fabulous pointy oval look.

    Putting dual tips (quads) is kinda disquieting because one tip is connected to NOTHING. IOW, a Y would be less "weird" than having one of the paired tips just suspended in air and not connected to anything.

    Well, the current quad tips for the Turbo are all Y tubes.

    quad tips looks good but i think it's too generic looking, the turbo tips provides the right amount of flair, at least to me.
