Park distance control - increasing volume?

For those of you that have the parking distance sensors in the rear, do you find the volume to be barely audible especially with the engine running? I can hear it just fine with the engine off. I'd like to know if there's a way to increase the volume somehow. My dealership doesn't know of such a way. Any suggestions?

Re: Park distance control - increasing volume?

I would ask the guys at Benchmark to solve this for you. I know they can figure out a way.

Re: Park distance control - increasing volume?

I have rear Park Assist and haven't found the volume to be a problem. I guess when reversing, one is typically doing so at low speed so there doen't tend to be much engine noise (even with PSE on!).

Re: Park distance control - increasing volume?

Well I agree with atomic80. The sound isn't loud enough. I almost ruined my car getting out of a parking because of I couldn't hear the beeping with PSE on. It was night and couldn't see the 'incorrectly-parked' add an odd angle.

Nonetheless, the sensors saved the day.

Re: Park distance control - increasing volume?

I think with the stock exhaust it isn't a problem.

Re: Park distance control - increasing volume?

where did you get your exhaust tips, i love the look

Re: Park distance control - increasing volume?

I noticed that even with the engine off, I can barely hear the beeping sounds.

petromega, my exhaust tips are the 88mm oval tips from cargraphic. I had them ceramic coated black.

Re: Park distance control - increasing volume?

Rich, we asked Benchmark today. They didn't know of any simple (inexpensive) way to fix it. Interestingly, when we went to Barrier to see if any of the new cars had a similar problem, they did not have one car in their inventory with PDC. I wonder if Porsche would consider refunding the $530 I paid for this useless option. Maybe if I invoked the lemon law I could rattle their cage. May just keep that as my warranty hole card.

If you haven't seen it yet, you have a response at Renntech that tell you how to increase the volume. Good info.

Re: Park distance control - increasing volume?

back to the tips did you have the coating done after the install and can you just change the tips and not the entire exhaust?

From Renntech - looks like we have a lot of ignorant service writers.

Re: Park distance control - increasing volume?

Basically what happened was that these tips were put on as is, they started turning brown from the extreme heat. I had them removed, powdercoated black but that burned right off, had them removed again, ceramic coated black, reinstalled annd that worked very well.

As for changing just the tips, hmmm...I think that its possible to do that with the cargraphic tips, yes. I'm not 100% sure though. Email Greg at sales@roadsportsupply.com to ask. I know that other tips such as the Fabspeed one can be used with the stock mufflers. I didn't like the way those look though.

And Jeff, thanks for letting me know about the post on Renntech! I didn't get a notification on that one. I'll stop by my local dealership and show them this!

Re: Park distance control - increasing volume?

Well, I have good news and bad news. I stopped by my local dealership (Barrier) and their tech was only too happy to hook up the PIWIS to adjust the PDC setting but as it turns out the default setting is already "loud." That's the bad news, the good news is that it's there.

So far I haven't had any issues hearing mine but I have stock exhaust and the radio is usually off. I'll let you know if I have issues when I change out the exhaust in about 6 weeks.
