    Next GT3 with 3.8 engine

Just spoke to my OPC dealer, he tells me that the current Gt3 and GT3 RS will not be built after the end of this year
and will be replaced with a 3.8 liter engine with direct injection.
I insisted on the accuracy of that info. He guaranteed that it is correct.

Re: Next GT3 with 3.8 engine

this is a rumour which does not dye. it makes sense.

Re: Next GT3 with 3.8 engine

    Same "dealerspeak" over here (997 GT3 MK II 3.8 L / 440 hp) - we'll see what it's worth

Re: Next GT3 with 3.8 engine

2 deposits returned at my dealer for current GT3 and they will not accept any more orders. They are racing a 3.8l engine so it makes sense. Also the DI engine for the 's' in 09 MY means they need to open the gap again.

Re: Next GT3 with 3.8 engine

Same RUMOURS heard from different sources.
But I've one comment to share with you.

I've sold my 997S two weeks ago. I went to my dealer and then propose one deal :

    - order the current GT3 mk1 for january
    - place an order for the mk2 directly if they can promise to buy back my mk1 to a good price.

ANSWER : NOT POSSIBLE TO GARANTY A PRICE FOR THE MK1

Why ? because they know that the current one will loose a large amount of money due to the fact that the new one will outperform the previous one ( DI = more torque and better performance).

So the game porsche is playing with us is disgusting : more focused on profit than on client's satisfaction.

    Sad but true ....

Re: Next GT3 with 3.8 engine

    Hehe, 997 GT3 MK1 soon second hand at a good price :-)
The DI 3.8 will be a blast...
But the TT also uses the same 3.6 block, does it mean it will be upgraded too?(and the GT2 is not even out yet!!)

Re: Next GT3 with 3.8 engine

This isn't good news for my current MK1 aspirations....:(

Re: Next GT3 with 3.8 engine

The GT3 isn't that old yet?! Right?

Re: Next GT3 with 3.8 engine

Cars will always get more horsepower and what have, but that does not mean the 9971 GT3 MKI will be any less of a car. Come to think of it, once the MKII comes out, you can probably get a good deal if used GT3s start flooding the market.

What might be an even more wild rumour would be a 997GT2-MKII with a 3.8L upgrade for 2009.

It makes me wonder if tuners might try this conversion on their own, as well.

Thought the same. Porsche changes its models much too quickly.

Actually the thread in the German board focusses on the pros/cons of PSM - KF said the 997 GT3 MK II might be equipped with PSM as it might be mandatory in the US in the future.

Re: Next GT3 with 3.8 engine

Is there an issue having PSM as long as you can switch it off ?
The thread also shows some poor dude smashing his GT3 in Spa/Eau rouge. Any idea what happened? (if anything else that he was just too fast?)

Well, IMHO no issue at all - of course you can't really completely switch off the PSM with the current PSM generation (PSM will reactivate itself once the ABS kicks in on at least two wheels). However there are different opinions in the German thread (forgive me for being too lazy to translate the entire thread ).
As for the Eau Rouge crash: I guess the guy should have stayed away from the curbs (not sure whether PSM would have prevented the crash )

I also don't like that attitude towards their customers.

Re: Next GT3 with 3.8 engine

Either is evolution or not. I will most likely then upgrade to an RS. But each to there own.

Yes - and "Noch einmal", which was the first phrase I learned when I started living in Munich for a year. I got very good at saying that...

It was a good time - I still miss the place. Mountains, lakes, beer, and, of course autobahns and twisties on the route to Italy thru Switzerland...

Luckily I still do a lot of work with German clients, so I get to sample the beer quite often, although sadly there's not much autobahn driving using the Stig-mobile.

    Prost (und noch einmal, bitte!)

Re: Next GT3 with 3.8 engine

    hahahaha

Re: Next GT3 with 3.8 engine

I spoke with a few dealers today and they are all saying the same thing. Although they do not have any information on a pending MkII release, they are saying this is the next logical step in the GT3 lineup as well as other models also.

    So, what do I do?

For me I'm going to see how things go with the sale of mine. If I sell it tomorrow for instance then I may take a view and just go for the MkI. Who knows, I might not be in a position to buy the MkII when or if it arrives. However, I'm not buying anything if I can't sell mine in the intervening period.

Re: Next GT3 with 3.8 engine

Aside from here - where else are you advertising the car? FWIW the only place I had any interest from was Bloomberg. I eventually gave it back to the dealer on sale or return. I figured most people would pay more from OPC so I'd be able to cover their cut.

Re: Next GT3 with 3.8 engine

I'm not sure what the problem is. Porsche has always improved the breed. Iterative changes that marginally improve the car every generation. It's always been that way. Would you rather have PAG not improve the car?

Most manufacturers contine to improve the breed and resale tanks on prior models.

Ferrari is exempt b/c ferrari does not build enough cars to meet demand, and ferrari's exclusivity makes their cars one of the ultimate positional goods, much more so than Porsche.

To maintain resale values, Porsche would have to make a lot fewer cars for certain models, work to differentiate those models from the more pedestrian ones, try to secure two year wait lists like Ferrari, etc etc

Or just do a single production run and never make the car again, like the Ford GT.

Re: Next GT3 with 3.8 engine

Mal sehen, was die Zukunft bringt. Man hört nur 3,8 ltr, 435 PS und FSi

440bhp would be about right going from 3.6L to 3.8L. This wouldn't include Direct Injection though. If you are talking DI also, then you would be looking more at 455bhp...
