    One year report and impression

The TT just turned one and here is a quick summary:

    - mileage: 25614 kms (18000 kms since tune)
    - oil consumption: 6 quarts added in total
    - rear Michelins changed at 15k kms before any track time
    - brake pads still have 2-3mm left all around after 2 track
    events and many spirited outings
    - stock clutch slippage a couple of times during cooler
months, also caused recent dyno test failure
    - cargraphic exhaust at 12000 kms, best mod for this car
    - problem areas: none

    - impression: this is one hell of a car, just love it.

Re: One year report and impression

I was wondering the same thing. I live in Orange County CA and have 20,000 MILES on my car.

Re: One year report and impression

Maybe it feels like he's going faster with km's? Wow, I'm going a 100!!

Good for you, this post is not about mileage it is mainly because the car is tuned and there was lot of talk early on about longevity and reliablity issues, so I wanted to keep everyone posted, btw the car has about 16k miles.

Re: One year report and impression

thanks.. nice that you eclou and others had the cajones to jump over the warranty cliff without looking back....i think your reports confirm for at least some of us that these cars really are bulletproof...i would have no reservations, other than inital cost, about going the same route...gt2 ?? why for another 60k or whatever they cost.

Re: One year report and impression

In regards to the warranty issue - depends on the rapport you have with your service dept. I have known the guys for years thru the PCA and track events - most of the techs are track stewards and have also worked in tuning shops as well. They are pretty tolerant of well done work. What they don't want to cover is shoddy work/mods done by those who have no business in the industry

Trust me...if you have a broken engine, something which needs to be sent to Porsche, you're busted. No matter how many eyes some local techs close...Porsche doesn't.

What was the price tag of a new engine lately? 40000-45000 USD or so?!

Agree that warranty maintenance depends on rapport with dealer's service dept. for general coverage issues-a cooperative service dept. would continue to honor warranty if it could for the problem at hand. However, even in the USA, RC is correct if that if engine damage ensues, then warranty coverage is voided (since these problems would require review by PAG for certification of service coverage), so herein lies the risk for power upgrades.

I am with you on this, it could be very costly to play that game, but at least in my case I wanted to share that the engine was able to tolerate a lot of...should I say abuse?, during my last DE where I spent a total of about 100 minutes driving the car very aggressively, with rpms close or beyond 7000/min most of the time on a very warm day. Maybe I am lucky but the engine has not blown yet, it did not overheat and the oil temp stayed below 220F. The result was that I ruined a set of perfectly good tires but the engine was fine.
I also think that 100 minutes of very aggressive driving (lower gears) in one day, is pretty much as or more taxing on the engine than a few minutes of 300km/h on the autobahn, but I could be wrong.

Re: One year report and impression

impressive...imo top notch engineering is one reason they cost so much
