    Re: 718 Spyder

Still no video of these cars to hear if it actually is a flat 6

    Re: 718 Spyder

I did see one yesterday on the Autobahn. It was together with 2 992 mules. Can not say anyhting about the engine sound.

Finding a GT3 engine in this car would mean the world. This car would instantly be top of the most adorable Porsches list. .

And - if this is true that they take all isolation out and make it lightweight they rather would call it "Speedster" instead of "Spyder".

    Re: 718 Spyder

I really hope they do but i think the 3.0 twin turbo 911 lump will be in it, the last one had a 911 engine so i think this one will as well.

    Re: 718 Spyder

Did you see the new rear diffusor under the exhaust on the new spy pics...may be, together with the big GT3 brakes a sign for the „big“ engine...

    Re: 718 Spyder

Though I find the idea of detuned GT3-engine amazing, I doubt very much this will / would be happening. Porsche would somehow (using a polite expression) "disappoint" those customers having accepted the 4cly., if they really put a 6zyl. in whatever form into the spyder. My guess is a ~380hp turbo 4cyl. engine.

    Re: 718 Spyder

Why disappoint the 4cyl.? The 982/718 Spyder will be last of the line.

The old 981 Spyder received also for the first time the 911-engine and brakes and was something real special.

Why not take the midengine-platform one step further with GT3-Tech. and then stop the whole thing...just a thought.

    Re: 718 Spyder

we now have been reading a lots from various magasine and sources  about the detuned engine . With all that talk , something must be right about it

    Re: 718 Spyder

Until we see a spy video and hear it or Porsche say we dont know but my bets are a 911 engine

    Re: 718 Spyder

Weren't we told that the turbo 6 from the 991.2 would not fit in the mid-engine platform?

    Re: 718 Spyder

We were told the same with the 3.8 and they got it in?

    Re: 718 Spyder

It has been rumoured that Porsche developed the new Motorsport engine on the basis that it could used across racing models and several different road car models.

It had been noted how successful AMG were using a single (great) engine across several different models, providing the desired "halo" for the full range of AMG models.

The 718 Boxster and 718 Cayman both need a "halo" model (with a six-cylinder engine) to improve their reputation with the customer base.

Porsche are planning to release new models that will build upon the great reception for the last generation GT4...

Speedster gets a GT3 engine but maybe with more than 500 hp (could be the 991.2 GT3 RS engine?).

Very limited production, almost no chance to get this car. Heard something about under 200 cars. Smiley

What's the logic in building such a low-volume variant?  Surely Porsche would barely recoup the development and tooling costs?  Surely can't be just to appease the VIP flippers?

    They can.

The Right buy is subject to priority on the sequence and that goes by order number.

See the Turbo S Exclusive for example, they only made 500. That one they sequenced it by market. So the. first 125 USA 918 buyers got first dib on the Exclusive, the rest can only hope guys before them turn it down so they can get the offer. At least they are also making 125 cabs and one can only take either a cab or coupe, so there are leftovers Exclusive in the USA for non-918 VIPs. Only a few cars but at least non-918 VIP also get a shot. These last fews are basically assigned by PCNA to their very best VIPs.

For 200 cars, if they do it by market, then in the USA perhaps the first 60 or so will get the invite. Maybe even less asno doubt a few will be reserved for those special VIPs.

It seems reasonable to assume that Porsche engineers in Weissach have already worked out how to fit a particulate filter to a naturally-aspirated motorsport flat-six engine... Smiley

Of course, Porsche engineers working with GT motorsport engines have plenty of experience working with restrictors imposed by BoP directives to equalise performance, so they shouldn't be too concerned... Smiley

You recall a few years ago that some individuals questioned whether it would be possible for the Porsche Motorsport flat-six engine to survive, given the lack of direct fuel injection at the time... that worked out ok in the end! Smiley

There's no doubt about that. However, they could very well have deemed it unprofitable and scrapped the idea.

    Re: 718 Spyder

The problem is that the discussion about particulate filters for petrol cars just started "recently" and car manufacturers don't seem to be prepared.

It is my understanding, I may be wrong though (I'm no engineer), that especially the lower capacity turbo charged direct injection petrol engines need particulate filters, not necessarily the higher capacity n/a engines. Again, I am no engineer, so I may have understood this the wrong way.

That would mean that they do not have to stop production of the RS in fall ? Will we see again new batch of cars coming every few month ? Ending with a production of 5000 cars ?
