Consolation prize for not getting a Speedster allocation. Not specced by me but a nice combination nonetheless. GPF has really reduced the exhaust note.

These guys in the UK can get the sound back for you and then some (as well as a little more power & torque):

    https://www.jcr-developments.com/porsche/product/718-gt4---spyder---titanium-valved-race-pipe

I doubt this would be street legal in German or any part of the EU.

Keep in mind that no aftermarket system is permitted anymore to be louder than the OEM certified sound level as far as it is my understanding.

I had the 718 Spyder for a weekend some months ago...great car, but coming from a 981 Spyder, the sound is so much disappointing...I would never buy it.

Don't you think that's a quick fix aftermarket? I assume the engine itself is much better/stronger?

Yes, the sound seem to be much more muted than the predecessor. The particulate filter is surely one reason why.

The engine, at least on paper, is more similar than what I expected. 3.8l with 375hp and 420Nm vs 4.0l with 420hp and 420Nm. The 4.0l revs a bit higher and the car is 0.1s quicker to 100km/h. It is the real life experience that is most important though, not the numbers.

I've driven both GT4's now - although the new 718 GT4 was not yet having the 1000km drive-in marker - I have to say there is absolutely no point for getting the new...... - OPF is also clearly less noisy than the old 3.8

According to the commentaries the main drawback of the new Spyder is the long gearing which somewhat spoils an otherwise very good drivetrain.

I am sure this could be fixed in a day but Porsche have done it for strategic/marketing reasons in order not to upset the 911 vs 718 supremacy.

The long gearing was the same in the 981. The key differences now are a larger engine, much worse sound, but importantly the 718 Spyder gets GT4 suspension which the 981 did not have. I have not driven mine enough because of Covid to test handling etc but the sound SmileySmiley.

No, too old for a boy racer special or a faff about rag top! Smiley And certainly not worth the money to change for a more or less identical car that doesn’t sound anywhere near as good. Only Porsche that would tempt me is a 991/2 GTS or a 992.

    Re: 718 Spyder

The Spyder is a more road than track focused drive. My 981 was sublime in terms of road feel and sound from my viewpoint and always a very eventful and joyous drive. Not sure I'd opt for the 718 version given its diminished sound and in spite of its GT suspension as I'm not sure its much of an upgrade for the Spyder in comparison to the previous car, especially in terms of typical use. The bump in power is offset by a slight increase in weight so performance is the same. While I have not driven the 718 version yet, I suspect I'd miss the overall feel of the 981 by comparison. Will see soon enough, hope I'm surprised but doubt it.

Yes, I do that frequently!! I could pretty much list from memory how I would specify my ideal 992. In our local independent Porsche enthusiasts club one of the members is the dealer principal and he keeps trying hard to tempt me - I even sent him a screenshot of RC’s comment here that his dealer is offering a 20% discount, but no chance of that here sadly. It might be different once he finds with the COVID caused recession all his orders dry up!! Even then I don’t know I could justify the cost to change

Ah - I've been hoping for a similar "deal" in the UK. I really fancy a change to a cab and would happily take a C2 off their hands but despite been close to pulling the trigger on a used car back in March (but deciding against it at the time) my OPC hasn't been in touch. Maybe next year.....

Well, in my neighborhood people seem to take their cars to service...I will get my car serviced mid-May only, this was the earliest they could get me. Porsche just announced their results for Q1, which are "very good" as usual, however, looking as to how many new cars are currently available at the German dealers, Porsche still seem to press cars into the dealerships...wait and see...Surprising for me is the number of Cayman 718 GT4 Sports Cup Editions (15 years of Porsche Sports Cup Germany) available in Germany right now (not really limited, parts bin exercise - allegedly available only through direct order with HQ), I would have thought that such a model would receive more interest from the usual sources / clients ...again, wait and see...

My dealer told me just before the lockdown they had four 992 cabs coming in, pre-registered at “special prices” - but knowing the arrogance of Porsche here and their dealers I doubt very much if the prices would have been that “special”! Indeed when I suggested to my dealer’s OPC that post crisis people might have other priorities than luxury purchases he disagreed and thought that more would live the day and treat themselves. We’ll see.....Smiley

Are these available at official dealers or at second hand party ?

To me that model looks very nice and if I would be interested in a GT4 , I would be happy to have a '' special '' model like that one .

Or is it that the 718 GT4 does not sell as expected ? ( too close to the 981 and with a downgraded sound )

These are available at official PZs in Germany only and as far as I was told can only be ordered via the PZ at HQ directly, whatever this means. Given, that there are around 25 718 GT4 and 718 Spyders at dealerships in Germany available, I was surprised to see some 4 to 5 of these Sports Cup Editions at dealers in Germany. As to the 718 GT4s currently available, I guess they are to close to a 981 GT4 and just for arguments sake, I would not even think to trade in my 981 GTS for a 718 GT4 or Spyder, though "pricing" would very much need to be the key and this is something I do not really see here (like a 20 % discounts or whatever)...As for the Sports Cup Edition I should think that they would be holding value more in years to come than an "ordinary" 718 GT4 ... I do like the white one ... Smiley
