Horst von Slowly... Ups! von Saurma! So, think about it 996 GT2 achived 7.46min, the same time as Gallardo SL... My guess for 997 GT2 is Horst hands is 7.38-7.40min...
One last thing-I would rather buy 997 GT2 and new M3 then RUF RT12 for the same money. BUT, that's me...

I'll side with Kreso on this, BUT I have some reservations about PASM on the GT2, based on its dynamics on the RWD 997GT3 and AWD 997TT. And I don't know if a non-electrical aftermarket suspension with the PASM inactivated would dovetail with the GT2's new SC (stability control) which utilizes yaw velocity monitoring (rotation around the Z-axis) via sensors to mitigate catastrophic oversteer-although I don't see why not, since ABD/ABS, ASR/EDL and EDC or throttle control do not rely on one single suspension input. So in addition to TC (traction control) with its automatic brake differential, anti-slip and throttle control, we have "PSM-Plus." Kreso, I wonder if the GT2's SC is similar to my Audi RS4's ESP in that both are seemingly touted to control the Z-axis (rotation about vertical) via sensors sensitive to angular acceleration, with the obvious difference between them being AWD versus RWD setups-but with both able to be deactivated selectively-TC on-SC/ESP on, TC off-SC/ESP on, or TC off-SC/ESP off.

I also agree with Markus that we need independent reviews/comparison times of the car whether from SA/HvS or anyone else-and that RT12 is one freakin' fast car.

But we are also forgetting, with the GT2's new expansion intake instead of a traditional resonance intake, with bigger intercoolers and higher boost pressure with potentially lower EGT's, bigger compressors on the VTG's for even higher boost reserve, plus the GT2's potential 300-pound weight advantage over the TT, there still is room for tuning this baby.

I am still NOT warming up to the vertical ventilation louvre's in the car's rear fenders, but the nose has the classic 911 Turbo look-massive front air intakes, a paired row of signal lights (in the 997's case LED's), and solo round headlamps that all have that "F-you" look about it-and in classic black or silver would still be "acceptable."

RC and Kreso, keep the "leaks" dripping from the GT2 faucet!

    Al,
    Thanks!
Your observation about GT2 PSM is correct one. It is most advanced stability system in Porsche yet. I have pretty high hopes for new GT2!
My advice for you-keep RS4 as daily all weather driver and get new GT2 as ultimate pleasure and thrill drive!

Seeing how the tips coming out of the rear bumper, I think if you want the titanium exhaust you might also need the GT2 bumper.

    Yes Kreso,

The RS4 is a keeper, since it's our family sedan/winter daily driver for me. I want to see/hear drivers' impressions of the GT2, but the initial specs. on it are tantalizing.

    Re: 997 GT2 - Official Brochure...

    A bit more "information":

I hate to burst your bubble, guys but in the lower speed range, the GT2 can't beat the 997 Turbo. The 997 Turbo Tiptronic does 0-100 mph in 7.8 seconds, only 0.4 seconds slowlier than the GT2. From 0-60 mph, the GT2 isn't faster either. Also keep in mind that the GT2 performance manufacturer claim has been achieved using the launch control. So yes, the GT2 is a fantastic performer but the REAL advantage comes at speeds over 100 mph.

Regarding the changes compared to the 997 Turbo: the GT2 seems to have different headers, a different exhaust system, different turbo chargers and different intercoolers. There have been rumours about a larger water cooler but this hasn't been confirmed yet.
It also seems that the gearbox and the clutch have been modified to adapt the launch control.

It is very likely, that the rumoured 997 Turbo Powerkit will be based on this with the exception of the launch control. Although it would be pretty logical to offer the launch control on the 997 Turbo too, Porsche apparently doesn't want to do that for whatever reason.

More info: the GT2 will NOT be a limited production car but availability to certain markets may be limited (whatever this means ).

Now the biggest question of all: is it possible to retrofit/adapt the GT2 engine parts to the 997 Turbo? Unfortunately the official word is: NO. The semi-official word is: yes but... It seems that the exhaust system and the larger intercoolers require the GT2 rear bumper, the new header shouldn't be a problem same applies to the carbon airbox and the new turbo chargers. The main problem will be the engine software since it is adapted to a 2WD car, incl. the new PSM setup and the launch control.

My guess is: a retrofit isn't possible, we should wait for the powerkit. Of course the new GT2 parts can be used by tuners for improving their 997 Turbo mods but I'm afraid that the new header and the launch control can't be used.

Anyway: the new turbo chargers and the larger intercoolers are already a good beginning, it certainly allows Tuners to go beyond the currently "safe/reliable" 520-530 HP in the 997 Turbo.

One of the things from the GT2 I may retrofit is the steering wheel, maybe the speedo cluster (I like the colour combo) and, if not too expensive and fully compatible, the carbon airbox.

    Re: 997 GT2 - Official Brochure...

however with this gt2 we are in carrera gt territory
    I would like to know 0-200 997 GT2 if is 11 or 10,8 is a bomb!

    Supertest in sport auto 01/2004
    Gewicht 1473 kg
    0 - 80 km/h 3,0 s
    0 - 100 km/h 3,8 s
    0 - 120 km/h 4,6 s
    0 - 140 km/h 6,0 s
    0 - 160 km/h 7,1 s
    0 - 180 km/h 8,4 s
    0 - 200 km/h 10,2 s

    Re: 997 GT2 - Official Brochure...

Funny, I was looking for that too!

The optional one in the Turbo doesn't provide a high level of lock-up, does it?

Maybe it's the same old issue of getting the LSD to work with the enhanced electronics.

    Re: 997 GT2 - Official Brochure...

ok i know i am beating a dead horse and that this is also totally irrelevant to the subject, but will there me no pdk for the regular turbo since it was not released with the gt2?

And when will the turbo be released with the power kit?

    Re: 997 GT2 - Official Brochure...

As far as I know there WON'T be PDK at all on 997 Turbo/GT2 models.
Power Kit for 997 Turbo... Around 512-515hp... Mid 2008... Very expensive and non retrofitable...

i think the GT2 with after market exhauzt and ECU upgrade will eat the CGT in strait line

You just forgot to say that 997 Turbo TIP requires so called "Power Torque" start technique to achive that 0-100km/h in 3.7s or 0-160km/h in 7.8s... So, new GT2 will be in good drivers(not excellent) hands always faster then 997 Turbo TIP.

Looks like a good guess (assuming that HVS needs 10 sec. more than WR) Someone who joined an event with WR this week said that WR claimed an "unofficial" laptime of 7:29 I'm sure soon someone will be able to put his hands on the product info booklet for the GT2 - the WR NoS-laptimes are usually mentioned in this booklet. Normally the gap between the unofficial WR-laptimes and HvS times is 7-10 sec

Do ou believe in this? WR is a Porsche employee. They are trying to fool us

    Re: 997 GT2 - Official Brochure...

That would be 13-16 secs faster han the 997TT. The old GT2 was "only" 10 secs faster than the 996TT. Porsche really needs to sort out the PTM mess.

Good point Kreso F1 , also, more importantly, 2 more datapoints, the Tip requires one less gearchange to get to 100mph if my data is correct, and each gearchange is achieved about 0.2 seconds faster than the manual change, so that is another 0.4s. theoretical advantage ---> -0.8s..

The real test to compare Gt2 vs. TT is manual vs. manual gearbox, and more importantly, acceleration within the same gear to measure elasticity and acceleration rates.

In my opinion it will be the same or slightly faster than the CGT (SA test, not factory claim) to 300kph with only 530BHP.

Maybe that's why those times always are "inofficial"
A time just 1 sec. below the "magic" 7:30 (hence faster than CGT) appears a bit fishy to me also
Like always we have to wait and see what a mortal driver will be able to do with this baby

    Re: 997 GT2 - Official Brochure...

I think it is a shame Porsche did not combine the 300 pound weight loss with a higher HP figure, it would have been a real killer then.
Also, maybe a stupid question but can someone explain why the torque numbers are the same as the TT even with all the turbos/intercooler/headers/exhaust upgrades? I don't get it .

AAH, torque numbers are ca. 10% more on the GT2. The rated torque of the TT is 620NM whereas the GT2 is ca. 680NM with 2.9 psi more.

The TT in overboost mode will match it you are right, but it needs higher pressure and lasts for only a few seconds.

Correction on my data above, I was mistaken, the 997TT TIP needs 2 gear changes to get to 100mph, same as the manual version.
